Brian OS has no affiliation with OS. And Phreak50, may want to calm it down a bit. Lol.

Regardless of the outcome, right now, some of us have had our decisions made for us. 24th's daughter broke his 2k disc, and 2k glitches and errors broke my experience. Once you learn the game, it does get better.

I am taking the opportunity that I have, and hopefully going to provide some much needed community feedback to the EA team on what needs to be done.

I'm sure some are thinking "shouldn't they already know what needs fixed? "

In my mind, an outside opinion being constructive in their criticism will go much further than that of those who have slaved away on the project for the past 12 months. I kind of correlate it to mindlessly working on a project for hours. You've spent so much time on it, your mind is relatively numb and don't see it for what it is. Sometimes an outside look can make a world of difference.

    Who knows.

Live doesn't need to be simplified, rather, people need to stop being lazy and actually learn the game. You see reviewers reviewing the game and giving it terrible scores yet they can't even accomplish the basic dribbling moves, at least learn to play before you trash it.

In my opinion, what NBA Live is doing with the franchise right now is great for competitive gaming. The game is much more skill based than 2k and that alone sets it apart from the competition. The fact that you
actually have to "learn" how to play before becoming successful is great.

Look at the Street fighter crowd. These games are great competitively. Go up against someone who knows what they're doing and you’ll realize you’ve got a lot to learn. Just go on YouTube right now and watch a Street Fighter match where two top players are competing and you'll see what the game is supposed to look like. I've seen the same thing with Live, and If you tuned in on one of Scott O'Gallaghers streams then you should know exactly what I’m talking about.

There’s some free minded people out there that actually take an unbiased look at Live, learn it, and make their own observations (ala Bleacher Report), but for the most part Live was written off before it started for many people.

To me dumbing down the game isn’t necessary at all. I actually hope EA sticks to the script. Build off what they already have knowing there’s a full development cycle ahead of them and a Live game actually released now.

(Mind you, this is all speaking from a competitive gaming viewpoint, not the MyPlayer, or the Franchise guy.)
This game doesn't have a learning curve because of it's in depth simulation gameplay, it's because of its delayed controls and weird animations. You shouldn't have to "learn" NBA Live 14, the only thing you should need to "learn" is basketball as this is supposed to be a simulation of that. Anything distracting from playing ball is a negative especially when its messed up animations. And I have a feeling these people "warming up to it" and "starting to see the good in it" are actually just playing it long enough to become used to the substandard gameplay. Oh and don't try to pin me as a guy just putting it down without trying as I've had substantial time to play.

And oh yeah please don't ever compare Live to a classic like Street Fighter again please.

Chris, great write and I agree 1000% with you. I'm a guy that has been/was playing Live for many years...this franchise has fallen by the waist side big time! This game doesn't constitute a purchase of $60, they should taken the approach of the old 2k football game and released it $19.99, then mybe people would actually consider this game (I would). Now, with that being said, the people trying to defend this game need to stop!! The developer themselves have public ally acknowledged that this game needs major work. The controls are complexed to the most profound gamers. The fact remains EA released a unfinished product and trying to get consumers to buy at $60 a pop and I think that's almost a crime! It doesn't come close to what the NBA looks like to me at all. That's not Sim, and that's what they boosted this game being. Everyone is stiff as can be, everything seems to happen in slow motion, and let's not talk about how everyone the most unstoppable euro/hop step ever (guaranteed bucket)!!!

I'm a diehard St. Louis Cardinals Fan!! Birds on the bat til I die!

Wasn't the community involved before and ea kinda just shrugged them off? I remember the days of reanimator , they use to be much more active here until they got heat for 11. I hope they are active again.

Some of of you guys that our defending this effort from EA really need to listen to yourselves. Can you really admit this game is worth $60 dollars after buying and playing it? Thank goodness people are not letting them off the hook this time, so they have to come harder next time or stay ghost.

I keep wondering over and over, like I've said to a few friends since release of the demo, if this is a situation where EA was forced to put out an NBA title to avoid legal action from the NBA or what have u and this was the best they could come up with to avoid it. It's been 4 yrs since the last title hit and I would be pretty sure that this was going against the contract between the two. Maybe this is the final year of it and the NBA won't renew so EA will just try to recoup what they can from possibly having to foece this turd, uhh, game out. Just wondering...

You might be on to something with that information.

From this point on in this thread, or any other thread, if you like the game, fine. If you hate the game, fine. But enough with the slamming each other for not sharing your opinion.

And if you want to criticize EA that's fine too. Just do it constructively. No "EA" sucks BS.

                  Thank you.

We were. I and a few others spent days going over what to do to improve the game. You know all those "little" and "petty" complaints OSer's had? We could have addressed them and then some. I gave them a full blown controller scheme that complimented what they had and was radically different from 2k's approach. All of it was just a waste of time.

Sad part is there were a few good guys there too who really took to heart what we said. I know there are guys like Ryan who are extremely talented in what they do. There is no reason Live can't succeed.

2k has listened to their community more closely than the general public knows. There is a reason they are where they are and it is more than just talented individuals. When EA's team realizes that, maybe we will be invited back and taken more seriously.

i dont listen to reviews for sports games because they generally dont play them enough to really understand the game. that goes for any sports game not just this one. i watched igns reviewers play both live and 2k14 and they looked like monkeys playing both.

NBA Live 10 was definitely the best basketball of that season and EA's best effort on current gen, maybe the best in the Live history. What's also sad is that, NBA Street Homecourt looks better than Live 14 lol... I was one of the many that were going EA would build off the foundation that was Live 10. It wasn't to be.

In my opinion, EA scrapped Live 10's foundation because it would become too similar to 2K basketball. Maybe that's why it was such a success? Either that or Mr Wang leaving with his input changed it all?
...we held several meetings to discuss the future of the franchise. After going through those meetings, it became very clear that the vision I had for the game was different from where the leadership wanted to take it. I parted ways with EA shortly after...

I am currently playing NBA Homecourt since 2K14 and Live are both tweaking.

And Homecourt plays way better than live.

I think people that desperately want to defend the game take a look at it's bad graphics and just make it up in there heads that because the graphics are so bad that the gameplay MUST be something special.

When that's just not the case.

They also boast about how the game has a learning curve and they either don't or won't acknowledge why that is. It has such a steep learning curve for all the wrong reasons. It's not because of how effectively the game represents real basketball, it's because of how slow and unnatural the players move and interact with each other. I liken it to that Superman game on Nintendo 64, that game was excessively difficult with a rigid learning curve and that sure as hell wasn't because of how good it was. It's actually kind of funny listening to people brag about how hard it is to learn the game not knowing that they're effectively aiding in arguments against the game.

It's astonishing how a game this poor in quality can continue to be determinedly defended when the people that made the game themselves are giving out public apologies. That don't happen to good games.

                              alot of useless arguments.
the EA vs 2k debate = belonging to the Democratic party or the Republican party.
IMO the lines have been clearly drawn on OS.
In addition, EA has to go above and beyond what 2k does to even have a chance. a decent game will not cut it. the bar has been set by 2k, and its pretty high.

People should wait six months or a year before going on board with the Next-Gen game systems.
Two things: A). programmers are still learning the ins and outs of the consoles power and what they can do. The first round of games are not going to be all that great. Going to be glitches. Some might look awesome and play great, but give it some time for the sports games to evolve. I get it, though: we live in an impatient society. B). I'm not sure why or how EA botched the new NBA LIVE for the Next-Gen consoles. They had time, but we really don't know what all went down in their studios. We all know that EA Sports is very capable of making solid sports video games. NCAA FB 14, Madden 25, FIFA, and NHL series. I think part of the issue is profit to cost ratio. Maybe they will get a new production team together and do something totally different with LIVE 15? Who knows? Basketball video games are generally not money-makers. Small % plays them. I do miss my college BB video game, though. 2K8 College Hoops … can't do it anymore. Great game … just outdated graphics. I think perhaps we've seen the last of College sports games, at least until the NCAA and people can work out a legit deal without legal threats.
                                Crazy.
