NBA Live 14 - The Science of BounceTek

    <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/9xGKYRjF75M" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

EA Sports has posted an NBA Live 14 blog detailing BounceTek, their dribbling mechanic. The videos show that they have eliminated some of the flaws seen in the dribbling animations that were seen in NBA Live 10. They are looking to squash all of the canned animations and bring you more responsiveness.

    • The dev team recaptured all of our dribble animations in order to give players the responsiveness they were looking for.
    • Our technology allows us to ensure that movement is as fluid as it should be in order to deliver authentic gameplay.
    • Our dribbling has something called "Authentic Responsiveness," which means the ball is controllable when it touches the player’s hands, ensuring that control is responsive when it should be and unresponsive when it should be. While that sounds counterintuitive, it's important to create the depth required in a top-notch dribbling system.
    • Depth is created through decision-making and risk-reward options that forces users to think about what they want to do with the ball in their hands.

NBA Live 14 will only release for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles, later this year.

They seem to only be focusing on bounceTek. I like the idea of it but I hope they start focusing on other areas of the game.

They are only focusing on BounceTek for this specific blog. Other details will be released in due time.

I liked how the videos detailed flaws from NBA Live 10 and showed how they will be corrected in NBA Live 14.

One of the core fundamentals of Basketball is dribbling.

I thought the blog was informative. I would have liked to have seen a player loosing his dribble to further demonstrate that indeed the ball and the player are separate.

You guys saying "there is nothing here" and "it is just dribbling" shouldn't even have OS accounts lol. You cannot play the game of basketball without dribbling the ball.. By fixing the core fundamentals of the game they are actually laying the foundation and building upon that. Now as far as how well it will work in-game is a whole different situation but at least they are correcting a horrible issue. The game will look much more fluid if the players actually know how to dribble and the ball doesn't change direction mid-bounce.

I also liked that they showed past issues and how they seem to be addressed, then again, I think that the blog could (and should) have been much more informative.

I mean, they should have definitively showed us a player loosing his dribble to further demonstrate that indeed the ball and the player are separate, as you stated ... they should have also showed us players dribbling trough traffic and how the ball reacts in those situations or how it interacts with other players contact or how the ball responds to contact with the rim.

In sum, IMHO, we should have been showed more of the main feature we have heard/seen the most, yet, weirdly, not enough ... I have liked what I have been reading so far but, for further blog entries, I expect no holdbacks.

EA owe us to show much more if they expect me (us) to materialize my open mind and kind of current afinity into a buy ... and this blog didnt met my expectations, let alone, raise the "hype" (yet cautious) that I was building up.

If NBA Live focuses on getting gameplay right, they have a fighting chance.

As much as I love the 2K series, there are some chinks in the armor once you get past the beautiful graphics and animations.

I was expecting more. I guess it's cool but why can't they show us digital Kyrie dribbling the ball?
