Re: NHL 2K10 Hi Res Screenshot
Same here, I still hold 2k3 on the original xbox high on my list of truly great hockey games. It'd be awesome if they could recapture some of the high points from back in those days. Hell I'd settle for decent AI and a responsive control scheme along the lines of EA's skill stick to be honest.Comment

Re: NHL 2K10 Hi Res Screenshot
This is something that baffles me, honestly. Everyone talking about how they remember when 2K was amazing!! C'mon people, this series has NOT changed that much, other than losing the ESPN license with Thorne/Clement. Then stripping down 2K8 or whatever, so VC could try to rebuild the series. I put money that whole deal was to appease the casual consumer and all the critics of 2K's so called complicated controls. Probably not VC's idea either.
Gameplay wise though the series has pretty much remained the same. They have made some improvements, but the core gameplay has remained intact. This is what kind of baffles me about people saying 2K has gone downhill. Ok, so they were stupid with cinemotion and crap like that, but that didn't concern the gameplay. The AI has always had its issues, the franchises have always had freezes and bugs, geez. So really what has changed so much?
The answer? EA! Up until NHL 07 and really even then EA was utter crap. I mean CRAP!! All they cared about was churning out some arcade hockey game with some added fluff. Geez, so no wonder why 2K appealed so heavily. The competition was pitiful. Look at EA now. The same company that wouldn't join Xbox live at first, now with the EASHL. The company that didn't seem to give a rats about its community, now, not only listening, but trying to implement. NHL10 finally implementing board play and innaccurate passing. Something 2K has had forever. Plain and simple folks, it's the competition, making a serious run at sim hockey that has everyone looking down at 2K. Not only that, but looking good in the process.
Yeah, 2K has some blame in all of it too. After all, they haven't been very visually appealing since going next gen and I think that has turned alot of people away. Overall though, gameplay wise I think the series is mostly in tact, with the exception of some clunky controls. That's expected thought when you are trying to implement something new like that(in back to back years). Heck EA's skill stick wasn't paradise at first either. That's all!Comment

Re: NHL 2K10 Hi Res Screenshot
For me Savoie its alot of things, graphics, lack of year to year improvements on a next gen system (AI, bug fixes etc) The controls seeming to get more unresponsive each iteration, along with the mentioned to death deke system. The lack of marketing and huge lack of communication that has gotten progressively worse the last few years. And you're right, alot of it also has to do with EA finally getting a clue, starting to turn their game around, and making what to me is more of a effort on a yearly basis.
Another part of it is NHL2k always has had so much potential but as a series it never seems to move forward, when you add in all the stupid decisions the last few years, cinemotion, fog breath, the dial a dekes you just get to a point where you're like why do I bother to get my hopes up every year when I already know what I'm getting? A 10 year old game with a new coat of paint and generally a new gimick or two each year (zamboni racing etc)
So I honestly feel thats why alot of us are alot harder on 2k the last couple years, EA appears to just be trying that much harder. Competition is a good thing, now that EA has steped into the limelight I hope 2k can step it up and push right back. Though its hard to feel thats going to happen when we have so little info to go on 7 weeks before the games hit the store shelves. And what we do have to go on so far "Bringing the party back" Wiimote sounds, pong hockey and this absolutely bizzare screenshot aren't really all that promising.Comment

Could've called people would be worrying their little hearts away because they don't want to see the on the back shot animation... We already got a tidbit via 2khockey.net that it's rare. Let's put that to rest.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

See....this should really be the last of our worries, but for some reason hockey fans, more than any other sports gaming fan that I've noticed, get all bunched up about this minutia about equipment and netting and Gatorade bottles when the gameplay is the key. I personally don't care if all of the players look like my sister-in-law in cutscenes.... I can't see their faces when they play.Comment
