I think Eddie 1967 is correct about NHL 09 was mostly about pretty graphics and with little replay value offline and a lackluster Dy Nasty mode.
Best looking sports game ever ! but substance was lacking IMO.

Couldn't agree more. EA puts out one-dimensional games with limited editing and gameplay options, and their NHL series is the worst of the bunch as far as that goes. Nice to look at, smooth controls, but ultimately a very shallow gaming experience.

Well thats do to them focusing mainly with online eashl which is fine but what about offline ,0 replay value ?.
IMO they did everything backwards but maybe this year ,seems better on paper so far?.
I really dont want gimmics either or promoting functions like boardwork , fighting or a playoff mode like it was just invented that should have been in the game 3 years ago .
Well back on topic I hope we get some real screens and vids too.

Yeah i second what the both of you say. Ea games especially the NBA live and FIFA Series are 1-D. It's a good thing 2k is showing vast improvements because this will force EA to improve more and more. I can't wait to play both games.

I'll be passing on NHL 10 this year, at least initially. I'm much more interested in 2K's game, to see if they finally got their act together. In all seriousness, the PS2 version of NHL 2K9 was the best hockey game released this past year. I'm hoping 2K can get back to putting out a product that matches the customization and sim gameplay of their last-gen game.

I bought 2k9 for the ps2 and really liked the flow of play also...but found that my shots were often delayed...not sure if it was the game or my controller.

Although neither was a classic and i agree with you about 2k3 .

Was 2k9 any better ? not really but it showed promise and a direction it was gonna be going good or bad .
Well heres to possibly having 2 great games this year !

AI, stick lifts, defensive controls that actually are responsive, and the EASHL. Yep NHL09 is just pretty graphics.

I totally think its very possible 2k10 will make positive strides this year, and could quite possibly be actually worth a full price purchase, for me though it hinges on AI. If 2k10's ai is as bad as NHL2k9's I won't even bother to rent it this year.

Good for you but I only play offline and for 3 years DyNasty mode offer O replay value for me unless you count editing players gear.
Not to get off track as this is a 2k thread at least EA has finally added a playoff mode that was basic in last gen I can play all year !!!
Agreed about 2k and I also wont even touch it if its players graphics arent greatly improved at least to 2k8 standards.
Those things should be basic its 2009 .
Im leary of Alex O cyber pic as I recalled the same cyber of Tim L SF in MLB 2k9 , not even close to what was in the real game . Then Ill worried about gameplay next.
2k games still dont run smooth well no excuses this year eh ? They had a full cycle to address all issues and hopefully not just for the Wii.

All the defensive controls were too effective, especially stick lift and occasional poke check.

Fair enough so just to make it clear we only talk 2k in the 2k forum and EA in the EA forum likes and dislikes correct ?

For a simple answer, yes, but simply mentioning "the other game" in a respective forum isn't the problem. The problem is when nothing can be said about one game without someone shooting back with a negative about the other in a seemingly endless cycle. Well, that and the on-going insults (direct or implied) hurled around regarding who's on what side of the fence.

But if we can't discuss what we feel is lacking in one series without constantly putting down the other, then perhaps "we only talk 2k in the 2k forum and EA in the EA forum" will have to suffice...

Got you thanks for the fast response so I guess the best way for me is to play both sides when im in each others forum in a constructive manner and not mention the others game .

It bascially comes down to putting the other game down because you like this game. Not seeing what each one does better, but trying to come in here and bring down this game becasue you are so gunho for the other game. It happens a lot, but the Mods do a good job at taking care of that!. Any ways I like what I am hearing and seeing. I still like playing this game and I am very pumped for this game and more info!
