An idea I think would be fun is to allow you to edit the commentary. If you can replace entrance music, and have specific files played when a certain thing happens (ie first down), you could set it up so that the user could set up his own .mp3 file for a specific action. that'd be fun.

I think cutscences are a must in sports games, it adds to the atmosphere and overall feel of the game. Just yesterday Jose Reyes (MLB 09) was called out at first on a close play then it skipped to a cutscene of him arguing with the ref, and I was just sitting there praying he doesnt get ejected (he did by the way). It just adds that little bit of realism that makes the game just that much better, now only if Madden had amazing cutscence of players jawing at eachother and getting hyped up I'd be set.Comment

I don't mind the cut scenes as they do add a touch of realism when playing, and like you said, if you don't want to watch it, you can skip it by pressing the button. for MLB The Show, you can also select how much cut scenes/presentations to show in the options, which is nice.Comment

Re: Are Cut-scenes Needed in Video Games?
Too many kids. Cut scenes are absolutely unnecessary. If the gameplay is strong enough, there would never be a need for a cut scene.
In many ways, cut scenes ruined sports games. I blame the kids that have no frickin' imagination and whine about things like uniforms, post game celebrations, and all other manner of crap that should be the last thing developers are worrying about.

Yes I hate the cut scenes a lot but its something that I have had to get used to it i kind of wish they would do away with it but i know that i would be dreaming i think that the games are made to protect young kids cause the parents complain a thoughComment

Re: Are Cut-scenes Needed in Video Games?
I love cut scenes, it gives the game a realistic presentation, that gets the player more into the game. NFL 2K5 had the best presentation ever. College Hoops 2K8 also was great in presentation. Right now I'm playing NBA 2k9 and the presentation is really good, not great though. In 2K9 it shows replays from the whole game, after certain dead balls, or end or quarters it cuts away to what's been happening through out the game or recently. And at the end of the game you can choose to view every highlight for every player that happened in the game. The only thing I wish for would be a Weekly Recap show, like in College Hoops 2K8.Comment

Re: Are Cut-scenes Needed in Video Games?
And it does add more drama to the game if done right.
I overthrew first base from short with the Twins last night. the showed Ron Gardenhire yelling out onto the field at Nick Punto. And it was done well. I mean he looked p*ssed. (it was 2 outs by the way)
You take away cut scenes, you take the drama from the game. And thats boring, I don't care how great gameplay is.The Lord is my shepard.Comment

Re: Are Cut-scenes Needed in Video Games?
I'm all for cutscenes if they're done well and preferably in real-time. A modern sports game without cutscenes is like watching those "Game in an Hour" broadcasts on MSG or Leafs TV, you're wondering where all the drama is in-between plays or during stoppages. Some people like that, I'm sure, but I feel that you don't get the true feeling of immersion without cutscenes. Anything to make the game feel more like a real-life experience gets a thumbs up from me.Owner of URWL CAW WRESTLING: http://www.rantboard.net/Comment

On another note, cutscenes are one thing that makes college hoops 2k8 so fresh. actually they werent cutscenes, they were real time. i had a game where k-state was losing to my sooners by 4 in a close game, and michael beasley gets called for a cheap, questionable foul on blake griffin who tossed up a beautiful j off the glass and got the and 1. Beasley had picked up his fourth foul, and right there on the floor blake griffin is chest bumping his bro while beasley is flipping out and his teammate comes over to chill him down. at the time i was like "yeah, and1 bich thats what you get for not winning rookie of the year" but after watching the replay it went so smooth, i watched it at least 7 times. and you should see the coach almost walk on the floor and scream at his players when they screw up or give an easy basket, these little cut-scenes are why so many people still play games like choops 2k8 and the show (that can only get worse at this point)Comment

Re: Are Cut-scenes Needed in Video Games?
Folks, we are in the age of Next Gen technology, we have the right (due to the prices we pay for gaming) to expect more, even from cut scenes. How about dynamic cut scenes? Instead of packing them in the game, how come the cut scenes can't be from recently played games? Some from the latest games that you have played; so when Griffey comes up they show a homer that you hit with him in the last game you played or the last home he hit off a certain pitcher. Also, the pre game scenes could be from REAL MLB, NBA or NFL games, like the last game the Mariners played or whatever your team is.
But there also needs to be an option to turn off ALL cut scenes. In my experience people either want them or they don't and making them moderate to please everyone, pleases NOONE.

Re: Are Cut-scenes Needed in Video Games?
I hope you're joking, and not serious. You sound like a bitter old man lol many people that play video games are adults; im 15 and ill tell you most of my friends dont give a damn about what madden is updating, because they buy it every year anyways. About the imagination thing...if i wanted to imagine my team winning the super bowl id imagine the damn super bowl, not spend my hard earned 60 bucks (mine IS hard earned) on some half-assed madden that fails in many ways more than cut-scenes, and remind myself of how madden 04 for PS2 had super bowl cut-scenes, if overused but there nonetheless, and how it costs 99 cents and try to think of ways of how this new game is better than that old frisby.

Memphis, TN – News sources are buzzing around a potential College Hoops 2K8 exhibition matchup with the Memphis Tigers taking on the OU Sooners. OU coach sooners52794 has not been reached for comment yet, but Jackmouve, Tigers coach had this to say, “My boys are always ready to play, we’ll even play them at OU. Listen; if sooners52794 wants to add me to his PS3 friends list we can do it this weekend. I’ll be up north spanking Headlinah and his Kentucky Wildcats so I might as well pick up another win at OU.” VirtualSportzCenter.com will be monitoring the situation as it unfolds.Jackmouve | PSN | RensGaming@outlook.comComment

Re: Are Cut-scenes Needed in Video Games?
IMO, cut scenes are still needed, especially in sports games. At this point, we should be seeing top notched cut scenes on both the PS3 and 360. Just imagine if EA or anyone else simply built on the framework provided in NFL 2k5. I must say I'm disappointed by the baby steps we've taken forward since moving from the Xbox 1, PS2 and Gamecube.Comment
