Major League Baseball 2K9 Diary - Part 2 (ESPN)

ESPN has posted part 2 of their Major League Baseball 2K9 diary.

"Anyway, the Giants start the season 12-8 with the new lineup and on the brand new code I just got from 2K Sports. I have to say, the game is playing even smoother (and smarter) than the previous build of the game. Not only have the frame-rate issues been almost completely ironed out, I just saw a play where there was a grounder to second with a man on first and the base runner actually stopped in his tracks so that the second baseman couldn't simply tag him and throw to first to complete the double play. Just goes to show some of the AI enhancements to the game."

Wow, the Futures game is in this year? Awesome. Hopefully this will be a way to play with your draft picks and prospects in the absence of the AA and A levels of the minors.

Not sure if The Show 08 or 09 has the Futures game, but the last games I played extensively that did have it were ASB2004 and 2005.

Great Franchise Blog by Jon Robinson as always. Glad to hear Jon got an updated code & that code seemed more stable in the frame rate dept. Also good to hear the AI seems more realistic in it's ways. Hope this also means more realistic AB from the AI..

The ability to play the Futures Game is SWEET...

I Liked what i read. Maybe the people who were complaining about framerate may change their toon now LOL. Great read though this looks like it's going to be a great game this year. Big step up from 2k8.

Also the trade logic seems better. The Matt Cain for Lance Berkman deal seems realistic to me. Also Marlon Byrd for Zito cause Zito is on the decline at the moment. Also you have to take into consideration he was trading players and releasing players to dump salary.

Make that a huge step up from last year. And that is great news about the frame rate issue being ironed out. The more info we get the better this game sounds. Looks like a monster year for baseball fans.

looks like giants got some power , aside from berkman.

                  rowand - 31HR
                  lewis - 23
                  frans - 25

only if that happens in real life =/

i am a giants fan and i hope so too, but i don't see that happening, lewis to get over 20 would be something special, and fransden with 25 after being out all of last year due to injury i don't see happening, and well i think everybody knows rowands power numbers came due to playing in philly, 31 is an awful big number specially after last season, but i am all for it lets go giants!!!!!!

Yeah, it was kind of funny to me reading how "realistic" all the stats were over on the 2K forum. I expect them to be a bit overhyped though...lol. The power numbers seem inflated for the wrong guys (based on this blog and the screens here).

That said, it should be fixable with some edits (I've yet to play a game that didn't need it at all). Overall, it was a good blog and it seemd the trade logic, while not completely believeable (I mean the Zito trade was a stretch), seemed much better.

Thus far it's a small sample and nothing to bank on of course, but it sounds like franchise play should be a big step up from 2K8

The simmed stats weren't perfect, but they looked better.

And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

That Zito deal offered up by the Rangers didn't make sense to me AT ALL if we're talking improved trade logic. For the Rangers to take on so much money on a pitcher like Zito, swapping an expiring contract at that... Zito is under contract till 2014. There isn't a team in baseball that would trade for Zito; for the CPU to accept that deal offered by the user is one thing.

For the CPU to offer that deal is another. Offering to acquire Zito IMO doesn't spell improved trade logic.

Improved trade logic would be no team EVER offering or acquiring Zito and making the user or CPU live w/ the signing through the life of the contract, or making the tough decision of releasing him.

Cain should've come w/ a prospect or two too if we want to say the trade logic is improved. Berkman is worth at least that.

Improved trade logic in my mind would be the CPU asking for a ridiculously high price, and forcing the user into negotiations or haggling - which is where making the game accessible to all rears its ugly head. I'm guessing the average user wants to settle on something quicker than having to haggle w/ the CPU. So it seems for that reason the CPU just does all the work for you, and asks in return the bare minimum of what they would want.

Zito is probably rated too high as well which is why there would be a team interested in acquiring him.
