MLB 2K9 - Five Important Steps Towards Rebuilding

A sequel should, in theory, improve upon all aspects of the previous game in the series. Unfortunately, MLB 2K8 was unable to accomplish that goal in 2008. Presently, there isn’t as much competition as there was a few years ago, but 2K Sports’ rival title, MLB 08: The Show, provides more than enough competition on its own.

Nevertheless, there are a number of ways that MLB 2K8 can be improved, both on-and-off the field. So, without further delay, here is my MLB 2K9 wish list -- in no particular order.

Nice write up. After playing MLB 2k7 and 2k8 this game is LIGHT YEARS behind the "SHOW". I think they are at least 2 installments out before they are up to snuff IMO.

The Show is the King. The Japanese Pro series is second. MLB Power Pros is third. In a very distant fourth is MLB 2K. I usually love 2K Sports game, but MLB is a mess. I had a lot of hope for it when they got the producer of MVP away from EA and put a three year plan in place. I thought that sounded a lot like what Ea was doing with MVP and that worked out well. This is year year of the plan so I expect big improvements. There's too many other great games to waste time or so-so ones. MLB 2K isn't even the best baseball game 2K distributes.

pretty solid list but theres alot more than 5 steps this game needs.
            however your points are great.

graphics - ridiculous, 2k7 looked unbelieveable 2k8 looked like a ps2 tittle with more spacious surroundings

Pitching - was awful its a neat idea but when you ask someone to get shelled for 2 weeks before they win a game its not going to work. its agonizing learning how to pitch and the meatballs as you mentioned were pathetic.

Swing Stick - I love the idea and it was great when EA did it for NCAA baseball (go figure) but the 2k stick has always been wonky, badly timed and far too unrealistic. I could close my eyes hit the stick and smash an inside pitch to the OPPOSITE field and clear the wall huge with someone with useless power wise like typical cover boy Derek Jeter.

Legend - honestly its cool but really no, 2k needs to focus on what they already have broken not make a new mistake. it would be nice for have a career mode but if i heard they were going to have one in 2k9 id be worried cuz 2k would just pump there hype machine up with that feature to sell the same piece of crap game again with a new feature, anyone remember inside edge? pfff...

Commentary - Im not sure but arent john and joe done with 2k? well lets hope so especially joe morgan man what an idiot. Best 2nd baseman my butt, ever hear of Robbie Alomar?
anyways lets hope they keep Jeenie Zelasko perhaps get some in studio previews from her, shes not bad looking it would help sell lol

Im not positive but im pretty sure that Ben Brinkman (EA guy) was fired, or just quit. so the whole 3 year plan is out the window, and thank god for that cuz after last year it wasnt going anywhere fast, he now works on little league world series for Wii hahahaha
Man sorry to demolish this thread with negativity im usually upbeat but 2K pissed me off for 3 straight years.
              Thank god for The Show.

Absolutely agree. All this would do is sell more games and probably stick us with a game that lacked development time in other areas that is sorely needed. The graphics would be a heck of a lot more appealing if this game played better, period. They aren't all that bad. But, I expect something to be added to pump sales and that will be some new gimmick that doesn't work. Hopefully the "game" will have a major overhaul FIRST. Give us something new next year.

Another failure with a new mode could end this franchise.

The options to make it simple are there, so I don't see the problem with it also offering a more challenging system for those that want it. You have classic button pressing hitting, pitching and fielding options available.

I think you have as many, if not more people asking for a more complex zone hitting system in this game, to give the user more control when at the plate.

The show kicks butt...... 2k could go along way with a single player mode.... I just hope they add this or else i will not buy 2k9....

Let's just hope they keep defense the way it was. Defense was definitely the high point of 2K8.

The pitching and hitting interfaces are far more advanced than The Show.I like both games, but I feel like The Show gets too much of a pass on its antiquated hitting and pitching interfaces.Of course they make up for this by delivering a more authentic baseball experience than MLB2k.

I think The Show is the best sports game available today so MLB 2K has a steep hill to climb out of the basement.

I beg to differ, if its an actual solid game of baseball that looks like 2k7 and plays smooth and produces good results all around. I bet you as well as many others will end up purchasing it. I dont speak for you obviously but I dont think one game mode would matter if somehow 2k pulled a rabbit out of the hat

It's too bad The Show is not made for X-box 360.
