I could see Sony doing the same. But to raise the console price and accessories of a 5 year old console is tough to see. Especially Xbox and the situation they're in. It feels like we are 2-3 years away from Next Gen. It really feels like next gen consoles will start around $700

Yeah, I guess I wouldn’t blame them given the state of things right now.. It’s just crazy to see price hikes on a 5 year old console with what was mid to upper midrange hardware from that era. Even less so with the series S.

I’m not sure what to think about a $700 base console. It feels like that would be too much to maintain anything close to console sales this gen, at least as far as the PlayStation is concerned. You’d end up with a larger number of “core” gamers that stick to the previous gen machine than we’ve ever seen before.

I would’ve been pretty skeptical prices would climb that high for a base console until recently, but now it seems as reasonable a prediction as any.

Sony does it, but it's different since it's MS? I don't get it, Sony has been been messing with pricing basically this whole generation, even raising the cost of their PS+ online service.

"What situation are they in"? because they don't have the console sales Sony does? do you not realize that MS is raking in money hand over fist? It's no longer about console sales....

Sony was the one that initially raised game prices to $70, then just recently with the Switch 2 announcement Nintendo raised their prices to $80, it was only a matter of time MS raised their games to $80 as well...BUT they also mentioned it's not all of their games.

I'm sure Sony is right on the heels of MS with this, it's just a matter of time at this point.

Newsflash, current gen consoles are already $700, next gen machines will start at probably $800-850 (just a guess) if that does turn out to be the case, I will just build a PC, no biggie...plus free online.

I see your point and I'm not absolving Sony of anything. Just a few years ago PS Plus started at $60 and I'm still upset that I didn't stack up on the CDKeys deals. I don't play Online, so I'm only getting PS Plus because most games require it now.

For me, it is what is. Just have to adapt with the times. Prices are going to go up. I'm in the situation where I can afford it. I still wouldn't be surprised if GTA 6 is $100, bare minimum $80. I'll still get it. Just like I would get PS6 if it is $800

Re: Xbox Series (X/S)

I was/am hoping that we would see a longer generation. The past couple generations at this point we might have started to see that we developer tap into the full potential of consoles. We are 5 years in and we're finally starting to leave behind last gen. We've had games that showed the potential of the consoles, but it seems like we are far away from the full potential. And now we're 2-3 years away. Ideally, I wanted this gen to last until 2030.
