Buying my daughter a handheld "classic" style system for Xmas - suggestions?

Hi, thanks in advance for letting me tap into your collective expertise. My wife floated the idea of buying my daughter a Gameboy for Christmas. I said that sounds great, but it's probably going to be expensive. Honestly I haven't even looked, but I'd rather avoid going over say $150 for an old handheld system.

So, what I'm wondering is, considering all handheld systems, what would you recommend? Looking for a combination of value, quality, games (including games for kids) no wifi... Just offline gaming basically.

Thanks again if you can help.

Game boy advance sp. Can play game boy as well as game boy advance games. Rechargable. Huge library of games. Can be gotten for about 40 dollars.

I’d say one of the earlier DS’s. Like the big brick one or even the DS lite. I think they can play everything except the new 3DS games. And looking at Gamestop the DS lite is like $50.

One Game is a negative but it checks your boxes of Handheld, No Wifi, and Cost.

Seriously though a DS would be a perfect entry level for what you're looking for I think.

DS Lite would be a great option, as it gives her access to the DS library and you can play GBA games on it, too. They're easy to find and won't cost more than $50.

As a couple of others said, a 2DS would also be a good option for $80. It usually comes packed with a game like Mario Kart.

Re: Buying my daughter a handheld "classic" style system for Xmas - suggestions?

I picked up an Advance SP and three games:

                      Super Mario Advance 4: SMB3
                      Yoshi's Island: SMBA3
Sonic Advance 2 (she loves Sonic)
Mario Kart: Super Circuit. Games were generally $15-$20 apiece, so not bad.

I got a used Advance SP - Platinum that's supposedly in very good condition for $55.

I want her to have a chance to appreciate the real old-time games and I think she will because she loves playing low graphic type games on her tablet.

So we'll see how she likes it.

                      Thanks again guys.

                          7. When she was asked to describe herself at the beginning of the year she said I'm a gamer who plays soccer.
