It's so funny because Newsom blew up his 2028 chances over the past few months and if Trump does something like arrest him, he becomes the heavy favorite overnight. Newsom has to be praying for this. |
Daring them.

If this was the wrestling thread, we'd be talking about how the booker is doing a great job building up Newsom for a title run.

There's always a tweet

Trump said he plans on effectively shutting FEMA down after this hurricane season. They plan giving the minimum amount of federal funding for disasters and expect states to take care of everything else. Considering the red states often hit by natural disasters are among the poorest in the country, this should go over really well.

I hope Trump continues to squeeze Musk in his business contracts, his business network, his personal life (denaturalization and then deportation!) etc. I think EV, solar, AI has plenty of other options but admittedly SpaceX is still a giant. https://www.cnbc.com/2025/06/11/elon...-showdown.html Quote:

Can someone with a business degree from Wharton please parse Trump's tweet about his latest "deal" announcement with China? It seems like what we had before, but with more tariffs.

This dude is making me ashamed to be white. Way to stand up against naming bases after Dwight D. Freaking Eisenhower you tool US Army to bring back names of 7 bases that once honored Confederate leaders | CNN Politics
|
The ... creativity ... inspired by having to find candidates with matching names.
{eyeroll} Those of us who realize they never should have been changed in the first place can only mildly appreciate that they names at least sound right again, but at the same time we disgusted at the lack of judgement, character, or will to put them back to their rightful namesakes. It's literally a "solution" that feels more like a hollow gesture than anything else. |
Why would we want army bases named after losers? Do we name monuments after Walter Mondale and Mike Dukakis?

Most were for specific battlefield acumen rather than outcomes. (I'd have to go through the list in detail to find the exceptions and let's face it, it's too fn early in the morning for that kinda detail work) And we do have a certain tradition in the country for naming things after tragic figures. |
Quote:
Yeah, right. The military acumen of Braxton Bragg  |
Quote:
I said most ;) edit to add: There's also Fort Polk, which was named in what feels like it had to be intentional shade. A man so inept on the battlefield that the Union shell that killed him was described as one of the most unfortunate -- for the North -- ever fired. (He's considerably responsible for some of Bragg's worst moments, quite possibly intentionally) |
It just seems odd we honor people who fought against the US under a different flag.
Of course, I also find it odd people are so upset about Columbus Day being changed when he literally never stepped foot in the (future) country. If anything it should be Ponce de Leon day, but I assume that name isn't Anglican enough. |
Here are some more:
Pickett - famous for the horrible decision of REL on day 3 at Gettysburg but what isn't as well known is that he left his troops to attend a Shad bake at Petersburg. This directly led to the Union breakthrough at Petersburg. Hood - Peter principle incarnate. Disastrous charge at Franklin led to the end of any significant Confederate presence in the West. Gordon - nothing comes to mind other than his opposition to Reconstruction Lee - Good at tactics, bad at strategy. Cruel slaveowner that watched as black people were stripped and beaten in front of him. After the brutal whipping (50 lashes), he ordered brine to be poured over the wounds to continue the torture. Fought in court to keep people enslaved that his wife inherited even though the will specified that they should be set free. I think he may have had a weird relationship with his daughters. Something is off there... Polk - Horrible general in the West under the even worse general Bragg. They fought constantly and their inept leadership led to Rosecrans taking Chattanooga and Sherman taking Atlanta. Complete failure of a general. AP Hill - Middling general at best. At least Stonewall Jackson had some success even if he was a total weirdo. Hill was just a douchebag with mediocre performance. |

I'd still probably argue that Polk was worse. One of President Davis worst errors was befriending this mfer. |
A SC house rep was arrested for sharing kiddie porn. He used the name joebidennn69.
These people would be funny if they weren't so evil. |

Considering our lack of success in recent wars, it sort of seems fitting. Losing culture leads to losses. It is still so funny to me that they named something after Bragg and Polk. Like that is shit you'd do as a prank. I thought even the South despised those guys. They used to think Polk was working secretly for the Union because he was so incompetent. |
Anyone here with some legal background can answer this? My gut says that a pardon would just qualify for the crime that they were convicted of, not any other crimes that were discovered in the process of that. Or would it be part of that "fruit of the poisonous tree" doctrine?

Can you fix the link?
edit: Thanks |
CA Sen Padilla was forcibly removed and arrested after showing up at a public press conference to ask Sec. Noem some questions.

The footage is crazy and the GOP is full on defending it. We’ve gone completely authoritarian.

No, the pardon will not protect him here. The search warrant was legal at the time it was served. The pardon does not change that. Lots of chutzpah to try that, though. |

Whatever, they were literal traitors. We shouldn't be naming anything after literal traitors. The almost-Union-equivalent would be renaming Atlanta "Granttown". Which, honestly, we should do, just to send a message to people who still claim the Confederacy as their "culture". |

Judge Breyer (brother of former SCOTUS Steohen Breyer) just heard the case on the CA NG being nationalized. Considering how many times he compared the President's position on the case to that of a monarch, I don't think he is inclined to side with the government.

How could Biden continue to let hard working immigrants be deported?
|
I know Biden was cooked mentally but there is really not enough attention being brought to the fact that Trump seems like he's on the same path. Listening to his posts and him talking, his mind is just mashed potatoes at this point.

Judge Breyer does order the NG being returned to the Governor's command. Expect an immediate appeal.

Oh boy. Israel attacks Iran. Trump will be meeting with his National Security Council...at 11 am tomorrow

From ending the war in Ukraine in 24 hours to basically being told where to go by Israel as they start the biggest crisis in the middle east in a generation. Couldn't even give him the courtesy of finishing out his negotiations this weekend.

It seems like this presidency is going exactly how people feared it would go. This last week in particular seems to have taken a dark turn.

I finally came across on one those people. Was walking the dog and walked by a lady in a Mercedes blasting Killing in the Name of. After she passed I turned around and her car had a Trump sticker and a Thin Blue Line sticker.

Fuck you just do what Trump tells you!

I've seen a lot of people on Dropkick murphys boards lately be like "I love their music, just leave politics out of it"
See it with Bruce also (we are from the same home town so a lot of it comes from local groups) It's like people don't listen to the lyrics. |

The second post of this thread, which was from Edward, has a pretty good list of "hopes", which could be turned around into "fears", if you wanted. Or, at any rate, let's analyze: Quote:
1. There's no particular evidence that the borders are more secure than before, despite all the deportation activity. Legal tourism is down and bookings for the future are cratering, though, so that's great. And absolutely zero movement on reforming immigration. 2. Economy is shrinking, anything from another recession to stagflation is now a serious concern for this administration, especially when Powell's term is up. Stock market is OK for now. 3. LOL No, going in the opposite direction. 4. Trump managed to get countries in Asia to strengthen alliances with each other and with China which I'm not sure was the goal. 5. LOL No, going in the opposite direction. 6. LOL No, going in the opposite direction. 7. LOL No, going in the opposite direction. 8. LOL No, going in the opposite direction. The Trump Administration is a failure for all Americans, save those few who just want to see other people hurt, billionaires, or those heavily invested in the defense industry. |
Now lets see which members of Congress bought defense stocks a week ago.
