Who says Happy Memorial Day or Happy Holidays on Memorial Day? Both are dumb
|
Quote:
I see it quite a bit. It's odd when you think about the purpose of the day, but it doesn't bother me. There's no ill meaning behind. The happy holidays comparison is because it's another thing that MAGA pretends bothers them. MAGA was trying to turn it into a hill to die upon because they love grandstanding on behalf of servicemembers when it means nothing and they're not required to actually do anything. Trump then went out and undercut their false anger by tweeting Happy Memorial Day this morning though. |

Hegseth directing the NSA to illegally wiretap his employees should be a huge scandal. Instead it's just another day in the Trump administration.

Supreme Court declines case on student's 'only two genders' T-shirt |
RFK says government scientists may be barred from publishing and Linda McMahon says universities are free to research anything so long as the admin agrees.

There are alot of shirts that are banned. When I was in high school I had a shirt with two turtles fucking on it and it Slow Poke. I had another one with a squirrel who had a horde of nuts and it said Get Off My Nuts. They made me turn each of those inside out for the day and said I'd get in school suspension if I wore them back. I didn't take it to the Supreme Court of the United States of America. |
You should have worn those shirts in front of the Supreme Court.
|
Oh no
|
Big Johnson shirts, anyone?

Quote:
I was going to say that. Those were banned in our school. Same with the Coed Naked shirts. |
You can keep my Big Johnson shirt. No Fear is where it’s at now

Tell that to my Big Dogs shirt collection.

A three judge panel from US Court of International Trade has enjoined Trump's tariffs, saying they go beyond the authority has from the the International Emergency Economic Powers Act.

Yeah, the fentanyl excuse doesn't exactly fly. Pretty embarrassing it got that far.
|
Quote:
Using facts to call him out that it wasn't ever fentanyl didn't take very long. But perhaps the tariffs saved over 500 million Americans from dying from that 6 ounces of fentanyl that they found so far at the northern border so far in 2025. |
I don't think the ruling affects those tariffs on Canada, just the across the board 10%.
|
I don't even care about the tariffs anymore. I go out of my way to purchase anything but American products from anywhere that is non-American whenever possible. If the tariffs encourage companies to look for non-American suppliers for some of the goods that are still hard to find alternatives for then that's even better. I never thought I'd look at a package and say "oh Product of China, good" but here we are.
|
Tariffs are the strategy of isolationist societies. The global trade will re-align itself over time to avoid countries with higher cost of business, or higher risk.

Apparently Gretchen Whitmer is merely "disappointed" that Trump is considering a pardon for the people convicted of attempting to kidnap (and God knows what else they would have done to) her.
Personally, I get disappointed about things like, say, when two games I want to watch are on at the same time. Weird how different people get disappointed by such wildly different things! |
Quote:
I mean, trump's lawyer stated that the 60 Minutes interview broadcast with Harris caused him severe emotional and cognitive distress that he's struggled to overcome. So it's basically the exact same thing. |
He's pardoning every person he can find who was convicted of the crimes he's been accused of and found guilty of. I wonder why? Trying to set the stage that they were all convicted unfairly, and that they did nothing wrong, to further his own crimes, and to desensitize Americans that these things are actually wrong. It's a play similar to the big lie. You repeat something enough times and people will simply start to believe it. In this case, he's saying that anyone who engaged in these white collar crimes isn't a real threat, not a real criminal and they didn't do anything wrong other than just try and get ahead in a competitive world.

If we ever get around to amending the Constitution, the power of the presidential pardon needs to go.

It seems like the use of it has really change in scope in the last couple of years. |
I don't understand why it was there in the first place, given one of the points of the Founders was to not have kings. But there's probably something historical I'm missing.

Personally I think any pardons should have to be approved by the majority of the house or something |
I think it is a needed check on the judicial branch. I just think corruption has gotten so rampant that everything in government is for sale.

Right on cue, Trump already commenting on a possible Diddy pardon. |
Pretty insane story here.
nytimes.com Also not included but sort of hinted at by other news outlets is that Musk and Stephen Miller's wife had an affair. |
It's even worse than that - they were apparently a throuple, then she left him because of Musk. And Miller was recently furiously subtweeting Musk which seems like an awfully big coincidence.

Well, she had a type. Pasty white racist. You think she needs them to wear a little mustache for her to be able to orgasm?

Trump has reportedly been complaining to people around him about Elon and asking if they think the entire DOGE thing was bullshit.

Well it was. We knew their fallout would come at some point.

Musk is so ketamined out right now. That one video from a few days ago when he's looking around in circles in the air while Trump is talking is pretty insane.
Between that and grandpa Trump's all-caps rants at 2am every night, MAGA is getting what they voted for. But the scariest thing is that his approval rating is increasing. |

I'm still hoping for the all-out GOP civil war between the techbro/toxic masculinity wing and the racist/fundamentalist wing. |
Quote:
it's increasing because it looks like stuff is getting done via executive orders and bypassing congress on just about everything. It looks like he's effective, and it's been so long, like the 90s, since congress actually worked the way it's supposed to, that people are excited just seeing literally anything get done. People are willing to embrace an authoritarian leader if he does this, and it either supports their cause, or isn't hurting them personally. So he's got a long runway. They can attack dissent as traitorous, and keep fanning that flame. It's straight from the playbook. It's not that people love him personally. If Biden had gone with the same ferocity he would have seen a massive rise in popularity as well. |
I'm not so sure. Dems are largly staying silent where the GOP is constantly messaging.
|
Oh, they're loudly begging for money with their thumbs up their ass.

They should unironically disband the party.
