Elon and Vivek are now saying that Trump will say that the executive is not forced to spend any money allocated by congress. Congress can set a max, but they can't force the executive to spend anything. This has previously been litigated, but who knows how SCOTUS will rule today.

It would basically give the President a line-item veto over everything in the federal budget.

My bet is he let's it ride, and he is going to force confirmation through if the Senate doesn't approve him. I don't think he has any intention of surrendering on anything.

Police report on Hegseth.

Just a moment...

HerRealName 11-21-2024 06:25 AM

He's obviously a garbage human but at least I chuckled on this section.

"Police spoke with a staffer at the front desk of the hotel who said that around 1:30 a.m. that night he received multiple complaints about a couple causing a disturbance by the pool. There, he found Doe and Hegseth, who “began to curse” when he tried to speak with them, according to the police report.

Hegseth told the hotel worker he had “freedom of speech” while Jane Doe told the worker they were Republicans and apologized for Hegseth, the worker said."

Ksyrup 11-21-2024 06:50 AM

Delta CEO says Trump administration will reverse government 'overreach' | AP News

Ksyrup 11-21-2024 07:04 AM

And at the same time, at its Investor Day, Delta was pretty open about its plans to segment business class the same way they've done economy, and to increase the use of AI to individualize pricing based on what AI determines you will pay versus another customer, AND to keep decreasing the number of free upgrades they give for medallion members. All while making it harder to achieve status!

I've been in the Delta ecosystem for nearly 30 years and I'm pretty loyal, but I feel like they are asking to be knocked down a peg. I'll make Platinum again this year thanks to the final rollover conversion they are allowing after last year's program change rollout debacle, but I probably won't advance much past Silver Medallion for 2026. There's no way I'm going to continue putting the spend necessary to achieve Delta status on its cards when AmEx and Chase points are worth so much more.

I know everyone was focused on the House report, but couldn't the Senate have just called the exact same witnesses at his confirmation hearing? The womens' attorney has already publicly stated what they told the House committee. I don't think he was going to escape this just because the House refused to release the report.

I kinda thought maybe he agreed to be the patsy/red herring to take attention away from other pretty bad nominees, but I don't think so, for one reason - this makes Trump look weak, and there's no way he would stand for that. Even if it meant, ultimately, he'd be in a stronger position after the fact.

Lathum 11-21-2024 12:22 PM

I suspect they just knew they wouldn't have the numbers, which has to make Trump absolutely furious and gives me at least a semblance the worst of the worst, Kash Patel, etc... won't get through.

RainMaker 11-21-2024 12:36 PM

It looks like part of the ethics report leaked and there was evidence he paid the 17-year old a 2nd time for sex in 2017. They called Gaetz for comment and he dropped out 30 minutes later.

The way MTG was freaking out about this getting released tells me the report is really bad. I mean his friend is already in prison over it and they have receipts from him paying these girls.

Don't see him coming back from this for awhile. DeSantis has made his entire identity about the groomer stuff and it would be pretty wild if he appointed a literal pedophile for the Senate seat he wants in a couple years. Rumors on that seat have always been he'll appoint someone on his staff and then run when his terms up. That is unless Trump demands a family member gets it.

Atocep 11-21-2024 12:48 PM

Definitely hurts Trump. I don't think Senate had the stomach to fight battles for each unqualified nominee. So one less shifts attention to someone like Hegseth, Tulsi, or RFK.

JPhillips 11-21-2024 12:57 PM

Maybe the first thing I agree with MTG on is releasing ethics reports publicly. Yes. Let's see them all.

Ksyrup 11-21-2024 12:57 PM

You gotta hope this puts some pressure on the Hegseth nomination given the allegations are both sex-related. Under-aged vs sex assault - which is less offensive, Senator?

Sure, but the underlying idea of release all ethics reports is good. Release the one for Gaetz and then release all the rest.

Ksyrup 11-21-2024 01:10 PM

I took her statement as a pretty savvy way of putting pressure on people to not release Gaetz's report while appearing to support release of all reports, because she knew that no one would actually want to do that.

I don't know who Bessent is but below are some quotes from the article. I think an overall positive pick.

I really, really hope something is done about the deficit but we shall see. Talk is cheap and we know Trump has made many others swallow their words but they seem to know each other, so maybe Trump will let him lead.

US Treasury Pick Bessent ‘Is a Fiscal Hawk’: Wall Street Reacts
Quote:

“Scott is a fiscal hawk and he definitely will be positive overall for the economy and the markets.”
Quote:

“He wants to rein in spending. Bessent wants to get the Secretary of the Treasury back in line with the markets.” The gist of tariff policy under Bessent is that companies may have a certain amount of time to ensure they are fueling the US economy or else face tariffs, Capelo said.
Quote:

“It’s not the sky-is-falling inflation-is-coming tariff philosophy that many talk about. So I think it’s going to be great for America.”
Quote:

“Bessent has talked about a phased-in approach to tariffs and has been vocal about the need to control the deficit. It suggests that Bessent wants to prevent a market reaction that would constrain the administration’s goals on trade and fiscal policy.”
Quote:

“The one area that there may be some concerns would be his comments on a ‘Shadow Fed Chair’ but I think he is aware that an independent central bank is a key reason for the US dollar being a reserve currency and US Treasuries being a safe haven.
Quote:

“Under Bessent at Treasury, and with Trump, I don’t think they are going to try to undermine the independence of the Fed.”

The co-hosts of the controversial ABC talk show were forced to issue four “legal notes” during Friday’s broadcast after they discussed allegations leveled at several of President-elect Donald Trump’s cabinet nominees.

The legal notes — which are disclaimers provided by the subjects’ lawyers — pertained to remarks made on-air by the show’s stars Joy Behar, Sara Haines, Ana Navarro, Sunny Hostin and Alyssa Farah Griffin.

Don't watch the View and only know what's in the article ...
Quote:

1) During a segment discussing George Santos, Behar brought up the former congressman’s 23 criminal charges, including wire fraud.
Quote:

“One minute, I just got a note,” Behar told the audience looking down at her device. “We have to clarify that Santos eventually reached a plea deal after pleading guilty to wire fraud and aggravated identity theft.”

Quote:

2) & 3) In the same segment, “The View” stars discussed sexual assault allegations made against Trump’s first attorney general pick Matt Gaetz and his defense secretary pick Pete Hegseth.
Quote:

“I have a legal note,” she stated. “Matt Gaetz has long denied all allegations and has not been charged with any crime.”

“Also, another legal note,” Hostin continued. “Pete Hegseth’s lawyer said he paid the woman [his assault accuser] in 2023 to head off the threat of a baseless lawsuit. He has denied any wrongdoing. “

Quote:

4) Several minutes later, Hostin — a one-time prosecutor — issued a fourth legal disclaimer pertaining to Pam Bondi, Trump’s new nominee for attorney general.

“I’m sorry everyone, I have another legal note,” Hostin told the audience, to which Behar could be heard groaning: “Oh my God.”

“Both Trump and Bondi have denied allegations of a quid pro quo that his past donation played any role in her office’s decision not to take legal action against Trump University when she was attorney general of Florida,” Hostin stated.
I don't know enough about exactly what was said for an opinion about free speech vs libel/slander/defamation. But other talk-shows should be held to the same standard.

Seems to me the Dems should be doing these legal notes to Fox talk shows. It'll eventually blow up and go to the courts which will make a ruling(s) and maybe provide more guidance on what can be said or not, in a popular talk-show, about public officials.

At the very least, maybe a message at the start, every commercial break, end that states "opinion only, do your own research, innocent until proven guilty etc.".

What was curious was the statement below which implies the "subjects' lawyers" are doing this real-time and have an immediate access to the producers.

re: Trump tax cuts scheduled to end in Dec 2025, the negotiations for extension.

The GOP House is thinking 4 years vs Senate 10 years extension. I would prefer keep Trump tax cuts for < $400k (Kamala's plan) but that won't fly. So, all things held equal, hope the House wins this one.

Sources familiar with the early discussions between Senate and House Republicans say the House GOP is floating the idea of a four-year extension of the law so its impact on the federal deficit, as determined by the Joint Committee on Taxation, won’t give House conservatives sticker shock.

A 10-year extension of Trump’s tax cuts would add more than $4 trillion, which might not sit well with fiscal hawks in the House who are alarmed over the size of the nation’s $36 trillion debt.

What could Biden do? The answer was… “nothing”. Which was and still is bullshit. But you bought it.

America flipped the election secondarily on this issue (with his inability of Biden to work our economy being #1).

Trump threatens Mexico with tariffs.

Biden supporters claim, “Trump wants the USA to be the enemy of the world”.

Mexico’s futures start to tank over the Trump announcement. Mexico’s newly elected President has a call with Trump.

Trump says the call went well. Mexico announces they are going to stop the illegal entry from Mexico into America.

Let’s see if Mexico holds true on this announcement. Are they a friend or an enemy? If they choose friendship, Mexico’s economy can do well alongside the USA’s economy. If they choose to be an enemy, their economy will suffer and the USA will work their border crisis from our side anyway.

The USA isn’t the enemy of the world because… Trump. Trump has chosen to protect Americans better than Biden is protecting us now. We will and should be enemies of people that would choose to do us harm, and we will and should be friends with people that don’t.

And if those 25% tariffs start and are almost certainly reciprocated, enjoy paying 25% more for your oil, wood, water, etc. Because Canada is a leading exporter of natural resources to the USA. We all lose by playing this game.

I get the "America First" thing. At home, I take care of my family before my neighbors. But I also don't break into their houses and steal from them. I don't ask my neighbors to pay for my HOA fees. We live in the world together, we all work together, maybe let's try not to be assholes to each other.

Don't know what's going on but she disputes it was as direct as that, see below. I can easily believe she said it and now needs to manage the optics. But I can also easily believe Trump jumped to conclusions (or is just BS'ing).

But yeah, one way or another, Mexico will do something to tighten up the border. Trump bullying worked first term and will work again eventually. The question is how much carrot and/or stick.

Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum has appeared to contradict President-elect Donald Trump’s claim that the two have struck a deal to stop migration to the US border.

After a phone call on Wednesday, Trump posted online: “She has agreed to stop Migration through Mexico, and into the United States, effectively closing our Southern Border.”

Sheinbaum responded quickly that she had reiterated Mexico's position was not to close borders, but to address migration while respecting human rights.

I thought the word from Sheinbaum was more of a “hey jackass, we’ve already been keeping people out; also, much of the fentanyl is smuggled in by Americans, and oh, what about all those guns (which we don’t produce) which you dump down here? Furthermore, two can play the tariff game.”

But no, Dutch immediately believes Trump’s version of his “lovely calls” (the known habitual liar), which magically solve all purported problems because of his supernatural deal making abilities and alpha male aura. Spare me.

Did you even read the article you linked? It notes the change of story & tone by that two-bit "leader" of a 3rd world country.

Fuck a trade war, just napalm the border every time a caravan approaches.

Neither party cares who does Americans harm as long as the money is worth it. Both Presidents cuddled up with the Saudis, a country that has spearheaded most international terrorism and played a large part in 9/11. Heck, even our buddies in Israel spy on Americans and kill them with impunity.

The cause for most illegal immigration is poor conditions in other countries. A direct result of the past 100 years of foreign policy where we fund terrorist organizations and overthrow governments to cause instability. So instead of spending billions causing chaos in Central America so Elon can save a few bucks on lithium, we could just not do that and not force people to flee those countries.

And of course the easiest solution of all is to just penalize employers who hire illegals. This would end the problem overnight. Yet we don't see anyone proposing actually enforcing these laws or making them stricter. It's because at the end of the day, neither party wants to stop it because there isn't a coprorate dick they wouldn't suck for a bribe and an invite to the next cocktail party. And a lot of people in this country are pathetic simps for anyone who has some money.

Sorry, but this is all a big show for the dumbest people in the country. Making conditions worse in those countries just makes it worse and us paying twice as much for produce (plus the bailouts for everyone hurt by them) just costs us money.

America cares about illicit drugs killing people so much they gave the Sacklers a sweetheart deal and let them keep their money for killing tens of thousands of citizens. We even doubled down by using the military to dramatically increase the heroin supply at the same time to make it as cheap as possible.

If you think this is about drugs, you're the mark.

AOC considering a run for POTUS in 2028.

They have too. Mexico and Canada should be our closest allies. We are all in this together in the long run. Canada has been amazing for a long time but Mexico consistently says they can’t afford to anything for themselves and that’s a lie. They have a ton of national wealth, it’s the corruption that is rampant. It won’t be an easy fight but they have to stand up for themselves like they used to. The drug cartels are more powerful than ever and there’s a reason China sends the fentanyl to Mexico and opposed to directly to the USA. Whatever those reasons for avoidance are needs to be implemented in Mexico as well. That’s on them though and if they don’t, we won’t invade them, but we can make it not worth their while to continue to allow it to happen.

Biden has been the President and created these crazy inflated numbers of deaths with his open border policies. That’s one of the main ways to get voted right out today. #2 on the list behind the government creating massive inflation.

You’re right in a sense, the government only cares about what gets them elected. People voted for Trump to stop Biden’s policies. So, effectively, Biden-Harris got punted because ultimately, it wasn’t the government they promised.

FOFC believed Mexico would be super kind if we voted for Biden and that he would be super kind to them. How did Mexico repay the kindness of open borders? 4x as many drugs to flood our borders, 4x more deaths from Fentayl, 300,000 missing kids, women being raped all along the border trails. And we’re hear worrying that Trump will be mean to the President of Mexico? She’s a big girl, she can handle foreign nations resisting their anarchy, and she can be a friend to Americans and stop allowing the human rights abuses to continue. I expect Trump will be happy to assist her with those endeavors.

Majority of illegal drugs come through legal ports of entry

RainMaker 11-29-2024 02:31 PM

I don't think it really matters when someone is so deeply entrenched in right-wing media. But fentanyl skyrocketed under Trump's Presidency and in 2023 saw the first drop in over a decade. There's been a marked drop in production as prices have gone up and supply has dropped.

Dutch 11-29-2024 05:20 PM

Mexico offers support to stop illegal border crossings.

Hezbollah wants a cease fire.

Qatar tells Hamas leadership they must leave Qatar.

Zelensky suggests a stop to the war even with some territories still in dispute.

Lots of positive change in the news these days posted in the right wing media. Are you seeing this in the left wing media?

That uptick was the big push by the Chinese to move fentanyl into the US. That’s was a factor in the build the wall campaign that Democrats and Socialists like AOC decried as racism. Biden was paralyzed and unable to take any action because of that mantra. What efforts at the legal ports of entry were done to stop the flow from there? Nothing? Its weakness from within that has allowed this to get so bad.

Dutch 11-29-2024 06:09 PM

Trudeau in Mar-a-lago now to discuss the border crisis with President-elect Trump. Not meeting with Biden-Harris talks to the paralysis imposed on these discussions the previous 4 years.

Mexico’s President had a similar conversation already.

JPhillips 11-29-2024 07:06 PM

GOP debating on whether to say tax cuts pay for themselves or say that continuing current tax policy doesn't cost anything in the future.

Should be a riveting debate about how to increase the deficit.

Trump was President and had control of the House and Senate when the uptick happened.

AOC was tending bar when this happened. Not sure how she can be blamed for that one.

Newsmax told him it was Harris's fault.
