Elon and Vivek are now saying that Trump will say that the executive is not forced to spend any money allocated by congress. Congress can set a max, but they can't force the executive to spend anything. This has previously been litigated, but who knows how SCOTUS will rule today. It would basically give the President a line-item veto over everything in the federal budget. |

I know Trump doesn't like to admit he was wrong, but he also doesn't like to lose. Will be interesting to see if he pulls the nomination or lets it ride. I suspect a lot more things are going to come out.
|
My bet is he let's it ride, and he is going to force confirmation through if the Senate doesn't approve him. I don't think he has any intention of surrendering on anything.

He's obviously a garbage human but at least I chuckled on this section.
"Police spoke with a staffer at the front desk of the hotel who said that around 1:30 a.m. that night he received multiple complaints about a couple causing a disturbance by the pool. There, he found Doe and Hegseth, who “began to curse” when he tried to speak with them, according to the police report. Hegseth told the hotel worker he had “freedom of speech” while Jane Doe told the worker they were Republicans and apologized for Hegseth, the worker said." |
Now I see why people like him on Fox are so relatable to their audience. They have similar understandings of the application of laws/Constitutional provisions to their actions and are just as annoying/insufferable to be around.

Delta CEO says Trump administration will reverse government 'overreach' | AP News |
And at the same time, at its Investor Day, Delta was pretty open about its plans to segment business class the same way they've done economy, and to increase the use of AI to individualize pricing based on what AI determines you will pay versus another customer, AND to keep decreasing the number of free upgrades they give for medallion members. All while making it harder to achieve status!
I've been in the Delta ecosystem for nearly 30 years and I'm pretty loyal, but I feel like they are asking to be knocked down a peg. I'll make Platinum again this year thanks to the final rollover conversion they are allowing after last year's program change rollout debacle, but I probably won't advance much past Silver Medallion for 2026. There's no way I'm going to continue putting the spend necessary to achieve Delta status on its cards when AmEx and Chase points are worth so much more. |

There had to be some back room deal made where they bury the ethics report in exchange for him dropping out. If only we had an AG with balls... |
It must have been really bad. Let's hope it all still comes out.
|
I guess I was wrong. Whatever it is, it must be really bad for Gaetz to back off. As for reminding his resignation, no. Because if he is congress, then the ethics complaint revives. He can't go back and keep that report sealed. I don't see where he can go from here. Probably Fox.

Could be a move to put Gaetz in the upcoming Senate vacancy.
As long as someone else with the wherewithal to do the jobs that badly need doing ends up AG, I'm good with the tradeoff. |

I know everyone was focused on the House report, but couldn't the Senate have just called the exact same witnesses at his confirmation hearing? The womens' attorney has already publicly stated what they told the House committee. I don't think he was going to escape this just because the House refused to release the report.
I kinda thought maybe he agreed to be the patsy/red herring to take attention away from other pretty bad nominees, but I don't think so, for one reason - this makes Trump look weak, and there's no way he would stand for that. Even if it meant, ultimately, he'd be in a stronger position after the fact. |
I suspect they just knew they wouldn't have the numbers, which has to make Trump absolutely furious and gives me at least a semblance the worst of the worst, Kash Patel, etc... won't get through.
|
It looks like part of the ethics report leaked and there was evidence he paid the 17-year old a 2nd time for sex in 2017. They called Gaetz for comment and he dropped out 30 minutes later.
The way MTG was freaking out about this getting released tells me the report is really bad. I mean his friend is already in prison over it and they have receipts from him paying these girls. Don't see him coming back from this for awhile. DeSantis has made his entire identity about the groomer stuff and it would be pretty wild if he appointed a literal pedophile for the Senate seat he wants in a couple years. Rumors on that seat have always been he'll appoint someone on his staff and then run when his terms up. That is unless Trump demands a family member gets it. |
Definitely hurts Trump. I don't think Senate had the stomach to fight battles for each unqualified nominee. So one less shifts attention to someone like Hegseth, Tulsi, or RFK.
|
Maybe the first thing I agree with MTG on is releasing ethics reports publicly. Yes. Let's see them all.
|
You gotta hope this puts some pressure on the Hegseth nomination given the allegations are both sex-related. Under-aged vs sex assault - which is less offensive, Senator?

I think it's 10% on top of the current tariffs put in place by Trump and Biden.

There's a decent chance that some minor changes to enforcement will be made by Canada and Mexico, most of the tariffs will never go into effect, and Trump will declare that there is no longer any fentanyl coming into the US.

We have a border crisis with Mexico. Illegal entry has quadrupled and drugs are killing Americans at nearly the same rate. Did you have this opinion of Mexico? Of course not. Why? Because you either are clueless or you don’t care about that more than you care about Trump. What could Biden do? The answer was… “nothing”. Which was and still is bullshit. But you bought it. America flipped the election secondarily on this issue (with his inability of Biden to work our economy being #1). Trump threatens Mexico with tariffs. Biden supporters claim, “Trump wants the USA to be the enemy of the world”. Mexico’s futures start to tank over the Trump announcement. Mexico’s newly elected President has a call with Trump. Trump says the call went well. Mexico announces they are going to stop the illegal entry from Mexico into America. Let’s see if Mexico holds true on this announcement. Are they a friend or an enemy? If they choose friendship, Mexico’s economy can do well alongside the USA’s economy. If they choose to be an enemy, their economy will suffer and the USA will work their border crisis from our side anyway. The USA isn’t the enemy of the world because… Trump. Trump has chosen to protect Americans better than Biden is protecting us now. We will and should be enemies of people that would choose to do us harm, and we will and should be friends with people that don’t. |
Quote:
Then why does Trump coddle up to Putin and send love letters to Kim? |
Quote:
I'm not a Biden supporter, I'm Canadian. And we're supposed to be best friends with our closest neighbor. That's not how you treat your friends. When you come in and instantly break trade agreements that are in place through 2026, and do your best to tank our economy, that's not how you treat your friends. And if those 25% tariffs start and are almost certainly reciprocated, enjoy paying 25% more for your oil, wood, water, etc. Because Canada is a leading exporter of natural resources to the USA. We all lose by playing this game. I get the "America First" thing. At home, I take care of my family before my neighbors. But I also don't break into their houses and steal from them. I don't ask my neighbors to pay for my HOA fees. We live in the world together, we all work together, maybe let's try not to be assholes to each other. |
Quote:
But yeah, one way or another, Mexico will do something to tighten up the border. Trump bullying worked first term and will work again eventually. The question is how much carrot and/or stick.

I thought the word from Sheinbaum was more of a “hey jackass, we’ve already been keeping people out; also, much of the fentanyl is smuggled in by Americans, and oh, what about all those guns (which we don’t produce) which you dump down here? Furthermore, two can play the tariff game.”
But no, Dutch immediately believes Trump’s version of his “lovely calls” (the known habitual liar), which magically solve all purported problems because of his supernatural deal making abilities and alpha male aura. Spare me. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c89v4w51dzyo.amp |

Neither party cares who does Americans harm as long as the money is worth it. Both Presidents cuddled up with the Saudis, a country that has spearheaded most international terrorism and played a large part in 9/11. Heck, even our buddies in Israel spy on Americans and kill them with impunity. The cause for most illegal immigration is poor conditions in other countries. A direct result of the past 100 years of foreign policy where we fund terrorist organizations and overthrow governments to cause instability. So instead of spending billions causing chaos in Central America so Elon can save a few bucks on lithium, we could just not do that and not force people to flee those countries. And of course the easiest solution of all is to just penalize employers who hire illegals. This would end the problem overnight. Yet we don't see anyone proposing actually enforcing these laws or making them stricter. It's because at the end of the day, neither party wants to stop it because there isn't a coprorate dick they wouldn't suck for a bribe and an invite to the next cocktail party. And a lot of people in this country are pathetic simps for anyone who has some money. Sorry, but this is all a big show for the dumbest people in the country. Making conditions worse in those countries just makes it worse and us paying twice as much for produce (plus the bailouts for everyone hurt by them) just costs us money. |
America cares about illicit drugs killing people so much they gave the Sacklers a sweetheart deal and let them keep their money for killing tens of thousands of citizens. We even doubled down by using the military to dramatically increase the heroin supply at the same time to make it as cheap as possible.
If you think this is about drugs, you're the mark. |

Quote:
They have too. Mexico and Canada should be our closest allies. We are all in this together in the long run. Canada has been amazing for a long time but Mexico consistently says they can’t afford to anything for themselves and that’s a lie. They have a ton of national wealth, it’s the corruption that is rampant. It won’t be an easy fight but they have to stand up for themselves like they used to. The drug cartels are more powerful than ever and there’s a reason China sends the fentanyl to Mexico and opposed to directly to the USA. Whatever those reasons for avoidance are needs to be implemented in Mexico as well. That’s on them though and if they don’t, we won’t invade them, but we can make it not worth their while to continue to allow it to happen. |
Quote:
Biden has been the President and created these crazy inflated numbers of deaths with his open border policies. That’s one of the main ways to get voted right out today. #2 on the list behind the government creating massive inflation. You’re right in a sense, the government only cares about what gets them elected. People voted for Trump to stop Biden’s policies. So, effectively, Biden-Harris got punted because ultimately, it wasn’t the government they promised. FOFC believed Mexico would be super kind if we voted for Biden and that he would be super kind to them. How did Mexico repay the kindness of open borders? 4x as many drugs to flood our borders, 4x more deaths from Fentayl, 300,000 missing kids, women being raped all along the border trails. And we’re hear worrying that Trump will be mean to the President of Mexico? She’s a big girl, she can handle foreign nations resisting their anarchy, and she can be a friend to Americans and stop allowing the human rights abuses to continue. I expect Trump will be happy to assist her with those endeavors. |

Majority of illegal drugs come through legal ports of entry |
I don't think it really matters when someone is so deeply entrenched in right-wing media. But fentanyl skyrocketed under Trump's Presidency and in 2023 saw the first drop in over a decade. There's been a marked drop in production as prices have gone up and supply has dropped.

That uptick was the big push by the Chinese to move fentanyl into the US. That’s was a factor in the build the wall campaign that Democrats and Socialists like AOC decried as racism. Biden was paralyzed and unable to take any action because of that mantra. What efforts at the legal ports of entry were done to stop the flow from there? Nothing? Its weakness from within that has allowed this to get so bad. |
