Focusing on tax avoidance leads to irrational decisions. I see this happen A LOT professionally.

A friend of mine works at MESC. This is the guy Trump has appointed to oversee our manufacturing and supply chains.

It sets up a new legal entity so it shifts income and asset ownership entirely to the trust. There is a lot of flexibility possible with creating a trust so Trustees and Beneficiaries are highly customizable. Irrevocable Trusts are high risk though, once they're set, they're locked. I've seen some crazy situations but mostly around agriculture/land. |
What the fuck is this nonsense?

Massie says this budget that just passed the first hurdle will add 20 trillion to the debt over the next ten years.

The Trump and Bush tax cuts responsible for something like 1/3 of the current debt and our debt to percentage of economy would be decreasing if they had never happened.

Republicans want more babies, yet are slashing Medicare that covers 40% of all pregnancies.

That does sound like real fraud. People on Medicare ain't going to have anymore babies :) (... now Medicaid is another story) |

Don't worry, we're selling gold card American citizenship for $5 mil a pop, that will make up for any shortfall.
|
I was watching Rep. Massey, the only Republican to vote no on the budget, explain why he is a "no." I don't agree with his politics at all but it is good to see someone at least tell the real story from the side of the isle. He points out the increased deficits for the first five years, and it only claims to stop the increase if there is both 2.5% growth every year in receipts as well as discretionary spending is frozen. He said he has seen that promised in every budget, and it has never happened. It is like an NFL contract, anything beyond three years is complete fiction. Taking away services while rapidly increasing the national debt is just insane.
|
I saw where economists said the budget proposal will add 23 trillion to the debt over the next ten years.

Got an email today seeking Spanish linguists at guantanamo because there's a critical shortage. You get to live in tents for at least 6 months and you get the same pay.

I thought you were joking. This is a fucking real thing. We're so worried about illegal immigrants that we'll just sell a path to citizenship for 5 mil. |

Isn't that just expanding the EB-5 program? It's mostly just to encourage more China investment in the country.

We've cut back on our Amazon usage massively the last several months. So much so that we won't renew Prime when it comes back up.

Honestly, it's not a big deal. There's already a path to US permanent residency (and then citizenship) if you are willing to invest $800K or so. Trump has increased the $. Some of the conditions may change but this path to "buying permanent residency" was already there. Also, plenty of EU (and some Asian) countries provide similar, search on "Golden Visa". Invest in a business, invest in real estate, donate money to some sort of fund etc. Different details but "buying permanent residency" is not unusual. |

Has it ever been anything other than hatred of poor people? |

Using the EU as justification is weak considering the right mocks the EU for things like healthcare, their tax laws, and general liberal lean. You don't get to pick and choose justification like that. Speaking of healthcare, most of these countries have free healthcare systems and other benefits that you're effectively buying into since you would enjoy the benefits without paying a lifetime of taxes. There's logic to it. |

I'm not trying to justify anything, I'm just saying its "normal" for many countries. Okay, don't like the EU example ... Golden Visa Countries and Programs | Henley & Partners Quote:
Don't know why but above list is not complete. Toss in some Caribbean islands (more Asian countries including Japan) Quote:

Yeah, having just cruised to the ABC islands, I read up on the ways to become citizens of many of these islands that include an "investment" option. It's not that unusual.

People that qualify for Social Security Disability Insurance automatically receive Medicare and can, in fact, be of childbearing age. So, looking to take away an earned benefit (those that receive SSDI have to have worked enough to qualify) and further marginalize an already vulnerable population. |

Thanks, did not know. |

This, you can have people on Medicare in their 20's if meeting this requirement, so definitely possible as they also qualify for Medicaid secondary, at least in AZ. Just another prime example of someone looking at something, who has no clue what they they are looking at. |

Unfortunately, I do not have approx $250K to "invest". But if I did, which island did you like the best? |
Quote:
I'd have to spend more than 8-10 hours in each before I made that decision. As I recall, there are multiple types of investments depending on the country. Some were straight up cash, some were economic investments (starting a company and putting up $X of capital), and some were real estate purchase investments. There's a website for Citizens International that has a full application process for "Caribbean Citizenship by Investment" programs. |
Trump literally thinks he's going to pay off the national debt with this idea.

Poor excuse, Musk is deciding billion dollars in federal cuts affecting thousands to millions of people in less time. Get on it! |
Quote:
It's funny (not funny) you say that. For about 20-years, I have noticed that a lot of Republicans don't seem to understand the difference between the federal deficit and the national debt and I would almost bet my car that more than 10% of current congress members do not understand the difference. |

They have nefarious motives (tax cuts for the rich) but they're also remarkably dumb people. No concept of how big the debt or where the money comes is going (defense primarily). The fact that someone convinced him that McKinley was smart and tariffs work should tell you all you need to know. |

Heck, from what I have seen there are plenty of countries that you only have to prove you have a steady income, and a pretty low one at that. Youtube have lists of places from islands, Central American countries, to Eastern European countries that just require a small pension to move their. |
Why would most rich people even do this? If you have that much money you can come to the US any time you want and stay for as long as you want. America is attractive for immigrants who believe it offers a better opportunity, but if you're already successful, what do you get?
|
American citizenship has a lot of value, especially if you're rich. This is mostly being done for wealthy Chinese and Saudi people who don't want to be hassled about their investments or political donations in this country.
Remember that Elon really really needs China to be happy for his businesses to survive. That's why they've been getting gift after gift from this administration. |

Eggs were $5.49 but had an online coupon from Krogers for a free dozen. Am I suppose to blame or thank Trump here? |
That's cheap. I just paid $7.99 here for the cheapest. For a little while, it was actually cheaper to buy the cage free eggs but they've gone up a lot too.

It's to hedge (with dual citizenship or permanent residency) from political stability like China & Russia. I'd think it's also to hedge for the future of their immediate family and future generations if their country is threatened like Hong Kong, Taiwan etc. And for many, I'd think also for tax purposes. |

Separate from the Golden Visa to get permanent residency, many countries have "retirement visas" that will grant you much less hassle going back-and-forth; allows you the privilege to stay 5-10-15 years and also renew; etc. Just can't work. |
