Just to follow up on my comment about Trump's changes having unintended consequences and then getting walked back in the Stock Market thread..
It occurs to me that Trump's changes are an infantile version of the "Move Fast-Break Things" mentality compared to Elon Musk's version Trump Moves fast, breaks things, but doesn't have the follow up to direct the movement where it would have the most effect towards a goal (mostly because the goal is unfocused and Trump prefers to breakthings rather than move fast. Musk (through DOGE) moves fast, breaks things (the lever of government bureaucracy) and then drills through that break in a focused, directed manner. |
A local charter school has moved to e-learning indefinitely due to an outbreak of the chickenpox... But hey, at least no one got the autism.
Thinking of putting my 401k into oatmeal and aloe. |
To paraphrase Seinfeld,
"Don't go. America is a dreadful, dreadful place." "You know, it's the only country that still has chicken pox. I mean, chicken pox!" |
Or, for all of us old people here... "Shingles doesn't care!"

Those people were never going to be allowed back. And there is nothing for them to come back to anyway since Biden and company flattened everything in it. And any Trump plan is going to have similar limits on how many people can leave too. The Philadelphi corridor is narrow and it's not easy to check, feed, house, and provide medical care to millions of people on a whim. It was always going to take years (maybe decades). Trump's plan might be a little quicker because Biden killed so many civilians in Gaza. Just complete and utter moral cowardice to do a 180 on everything you stood for just because a new President is in office. But I told you that you'd flip when inauguration day came. Just figured some of you would be less obvious and maybe wait a few months. |
This is getting tiresome. Perhaps you would like to go debate David Simon? He seems pretty into it on BlueSky.

Mitch McConnell fell twice in the Capitol building today, and is now being wheeled around in a wheelchair. That guy is not making it past this year.
|
I’ll not wish death on him, but when his time comes I hope it hurts and I hope he burns in hell.

His miscalculations on Trump sealed his fate as nothing more than a footnote in history rather than the guy that reformed the GOP and the country. He's still responsible for the current state of the judiciary but won't get credit for it. Rather than removing Trump at any of the opportunities that presented themselves, he decided not to risk damaging the party. He also thought Trump was just a useful tool to get the things he wanted done and didn't realize he was actually the useful tool to Trump. Once Trump had established his control over the party McConnell was no longer useful and is now seen as an out of touch dinosaur and whether or not he's even a republican is in question for a significant part of the current GOP. This man probably imagined retiring as a legend in Washington. Instead, his political career and legacy were devoured by the monster he helped create. |
A fair and accurate summary, thanks Mitch.

So the right (and some on the left) will totally leave trans people alone now, yes??
|
Since when does the President control local sports regulations? Can a President move the 3 pt line in Oklahoma?
|
The NCAA immediately said they are going to follow President Trump's new guidelines. They didn't even get off their knees before saying it.

Don't worry guys, Trump said we'd permanently resettle the Palestinians, but what he meant was it would be temporary.

Trump is President?

Little Marco says he isn't going to the G-20 because it's in South Africa and they are discussing equality and climate change.

Supposedly when Trump was talking about Gaza beachfront property.
I suspect this caught her by surprise too. I can only imagine the damage control meetings after. It's good that the WH is walking it back some. Her memoirs will be a fascinating read. |

Trump’s position on trans athletes is a little ironic for a guy who has only won against the girls… |

Corporations are people with first ammendment rights but aren't allowed to not be racist.
Edit: It will be interesting to see if they go after the NFL for the Rooney rule. |
Well they already got the NFL to quit trying to End Racism, so...

Who had Costco leading the resistance? |
Seriously, I need to join them finally. Let Sam's slip during the pandemic/after I didn't have the HS marching band need, but it's redic having Amazon send huge boxes of TP and Sparkling Ice.

So USAID was investigating Musk and he targeted them. Now he's targeting the FAA, which had fined Space X previously.
I'm sure Elon and his incel team are aviation experts and will be able to safely update air traffic control software. |
Well he doubled down on the Gaza thing this morning. His handlers tried to control him and he won't let that happen.
|
This should be fun. At least it sounds it’ll be Israeli troops and not US Marines doing the evacuation/fighting.

Trump got played by Israel. They're going to move forward and force his hand one way or other because he came out in support of it publicly. I'm sure they'd prefer US forces do this but if the Trump administration is wavering they're going to take the lead and remind everyone this is Trump's plan.

He gets played by every political leader. He thinks he is the head honcho when really he is the kid who everyone is laughing at behind his back. |
Doesn't Elon's plan to "Make Europe Great Again" include these countries not accepting refugees?
Which President are they supposed to listen to? Trump or Musk? |
|
Israel finally doing what should have been done long ago?
oh noes, that'd just be ... |
Opposition party hard at work.

If corporations are people, Costco for Congress.

Well, I'm SURE we could just use the food to feed hungry people here. (Just not school lunches, because tiny bootstraps.)
Gutting USAID threatens billions of dollars for U.S. farms, businesses "U.S. businesses that sold goods and services to USAID are in limbo, including American farms dealing in rice, wheat and soybeans purchased as food aid." |
Does that mean my price of eggs is going down?
|
If they're molded out of soy, perhaps. (Though probably not.)
|
USAID is bad and should be shut down. It was always going to be a political win for anyone willing to do it and anger some donors.
|
I guess this is why they wanted to keep those names anonymous.
|
EO coming next week that sounds like it will order the firing of all DHHS employees that are in their probationary period. The probationary period for most federal employees is 1 year.

And we're doing what with those products domestically? I don't mean theoretically, I mean realistically. There's people big mad cause of talk about removing soda & such from SNAP eligibility (a move I oppose personally fwiw). You think handing out rice, wheat, and soy crackers is gonna fly here? It's been sold overseas because there's not a demand for it here. I'm not sure you'd get a high percentage of takers for 3rd world emergency food from even the worst conditioned homeless population. |
Trump has ordered all media contracts terminated so no news, Bloomberg, foreign media, etc. for any government office.
That should definitely make us safer and more prosperous. |
Saving a few hundred bucks so the Treasury Department doesn't have access to Bloomberg bond market data.
