That one hits pretty hard for me. His music, including the non-soundtrack albums, always hit my sweet spot and soundtracked a lot of life. A lot of long hours writing in grad school or doing work late into the night with his music in the background. Plus, I always found his music so evocative - always something that could transport me away when I needed it.

I've seen quite of few of Caan's performances, and one of my favorites was "The Gambler". He was nominated for a Golden Globe for that one. It's probably not readily available anymore, but I would recommend it if you ever get a chance to watch it

Larry Storch, Comic Actor Best Known for ‘F Troop,’ Dies at 99
https://www.nytimes.com/2022/07/08/a...orch-dead.html ![]() I loved F Troop as a kid. It had one of those TV themes that people loved to sing along to. |
Storch had a memorable comedic turn as a driving instructor in the Columbo episode Negative Reaction with Dick Van Dyke as the bad guy. Columbo offers to give Storch a lift and drives so badly that Storch demands he pull over and walks the rest of the way back to the station.

Damn I would have lost a lot of money if someone had bet me that someone from that show was still alive a couple weeks ago. That picture instantly took me back to having to turn the UHF knob of the TV to get to the next syndicated show. Man I am old. |

Jamie Farr was a small part as an Indian in that show. The producer cast him as Klinger in MASH because of that role.

Ivana Trump, ex-wife of former President Trump, dies at age 73
Sadly and predictably, many of the comments focus more on wishing it was Donald. Pretty sad that people can't nut aside hate and show compassion and empathy, regardless of how they feel about her Ex. And before anyone comments about how lacking in empathy he is, I know, fuck him, but as humans we can make a choice to be better. |
Quote:
I'm certainly not out there talking shit, but I feel pretty confident that anyone who would marry Donald Trump (and produce Donald Jr) is also an asshole |
LOL, pretty sure that is due more to Dad's influence, than Ivana's vagina.
I guess I just prefer that old adage, if you can't say something nice, then.... |

David Warner Dies: Veteran British Actor And ‘Titanic’ Star Was 80
RIP David Warner. I always loved his voice work in Baldur's Gate 2 (he was the bad guy). |
He had such a great cartoon villain voice: Ra's Al Ghul from Batman, the Archmage from Gargoyles, Alpha in MIB, The Lobe in Freakazoid, and a boatload more.

He had excellent range. My earliest recollection of him was his portrayal of "Jack the Ripper" in the movie "Time After Time" with Malcolm McDowell. I'll never forget one of his lines in "Star Trek V: The Final Frontier", as the disheveled Federation ambassador to Nimbus III. "Welcome to Paradise City, my dear. Capital of the so-called Planet of Galactic Peace" Then, he played the role of Klingon Chancellor Gorkin in "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country". |

For a sports culture that loves rings, I always felt he was underrated as a player. I was happy to see he began to get some of the respect he deserved later in life. That does not even begin to touch on everything he did and was off the court. My favorite stat. Bill Russell was 22-0 in winner-take-all-games. At USF, his '55 team was 5-0 in the tourney on the way to the title. At USF, his '56 team was 4-0 in the tourney on the way to the title. In the '56 Olympics, the US squad was 2-0 when it came to the winner-take-all final 4 for gold after the group stage. In the NBA, the Celtics were famously 10-0 in Games 7's throughout his career. He also won Game 5 of the 1966 East semifinals best of 5 series against Oscar Robertson's Cincinnati Royals. |
Kevin Garnett and Bill Russell Interview - YouTube
"But if you don't (win a championship), but I see you play the way you should play.. I'll share one of mine with you." -- Bill Russell to Kevin Garnett nevermind this was speaking to someone who made 80 times what he did (at his peak) at the time (100K for Russell vs 8 Million that year for KG). That shows what kind of PERSON Bill Russell was. |

Man, Vin was an icon, that one hurts and I het the Dodgers, but he was the best

Vin Scully is the reason I prefer listening to baseball on the radio even if I am watching the game on TV. The way he described the national game of the week on TV led me to seek out the radio broadcast of Braves games when I was a kid. He came across as the personification of kindness and class. RIP
|
RIP Vin Scully.
I hope to age as gracefully - both mentally and physically - as he did. The guy roled with the changes he saw in his lifetime and never appeared to be a grumpy old 60-90 year old shaking his angry fist at the clouds like many people do. |

RIP.

Thirty years is a long time to battle breast cancer. Rest in peace, Olivia.

Okay, this got me a little teary. I got to meet her when I lived in AL and worked for Orkin in the mid 80's. She and her sister had a Koala Blue clothing store in LA and she gave me one of the highlights of my then 22 years on this earth right before Christmas in 1985. I had finished treating the store and was getting my paper work signed and she came up, wished my Merry Christmas and gave me a peck on the cheek. I floated out of that damn store and will never forget that moment LOL. She was seriously so sweet and down to earth, beautiful inside and out.

One of my favorite childhood memories involved Sutter. I was at this baseball game: This Time, It's . . . He powered it over the CF fence. A shot I knew was gone the moment he it is. My grandfather, a Braves fan, laid a bet with me, and I got to cash in thanks to Sutter and Whitefield. |
