I assume that article is about Quincy Jones. RIP an absolute legend.
I assume this guy counts, even if barely anyone knew his name - Elwood Edwards, a behind-the-scenes guy at a Cleveland TV station who voiced AOL's "You've Got Mail!" greeting, died at 74.

RIP Tony Todd
Not a big fan of horror movies but Candyman is one of my favorites and it's largely because he is so menacing in it. |
Never really did much with BASIC but it was the first language for most people pre-early 90ish. RIP

RIP Rico Carty.
Back in the 80s, when I played Strat-O-Matic year after year, they had a set of 40-50 random teams spanning a bunch of decades that I bought. One of those teams was the 1970 Braves. When I'd create my own draft of players from those teams, I'd love taking Carty because he raked that year, and his card seemed like it was nothing but hit after hit. Good times. |
Also RIP Chuck Woolery.

Lou Carnesecca gone at 99

I will be forever thankful that I lived in an era of coaching personalities like Louie, Big John Thompson, Jimmy V, and others. Even a-holes like Bobby Knight and Jim Calhoun made you feel something genuine. I'm not sure if that is possible in 2024 but man that was a fun era of college basketball. I miss it. |
Ricky Henderson passed today.
How is this not huge, breaking news? Just got notification from a newsletter I subscribe to. Damn.
That just sucks.

Oh man, not Rickey. Yeah, this one sucks.
Of all the great stories about Henderson, this is my favorite, about how he stood up for part-time players, minor leaguers, and clubhouse staff when the team would vote on playoff shares.
From Mike Piazza in his 2013 memoir: “Rickey was the most generous guy I ever played with, and whenever the discussion came around to what we should give one of the fringe people — whether it was a minor leaguer who came up for a few days or the parking lot attendant — Rickey would shout out “Full share!” We’d argue for a while and he’d say, “Fuck that! You can change somebody’s life!” |

I hope St Peter doesn't enforce that "Thou shall not steal" rule too strictly. You know, because of all the bases Rickey stole. |

I JUST got The Athletic notification of his death, quickly followed by ESPN. WTF? All these sports sites cut so much staff they don't have anyone who can cobble together a push notification because they're too busy with CFB, NFL and CBB today? It was almost like Athletic got their shit together and someone from ESPN saw their notification and quickly sent one out, too.
I wonder if there was some hesitation by the big outlets since the story had been out there unconfirmed for at least 8 hours on Twitter.
Maybe. Because AP has now sent out a breaking news notificaiton as well. I wonder if the combination of unconfirmed and out of the blue caused a delay while they confirmed.
For certain you have to be careful, because major media has been burned on these things pretty regularly.
Way too young. What a history maker. RIP Rickey.
RIP Greg Gumbel. He made selection Sunday special.
I always remember him from the way he pronounced "Chicogo."
RIP Jimmy Carter
Probably the greatest post presidential career ever
Read a bit about him being an excellent fly fisherman. He lived such a rich life.
Tminus Rainmaker talking about him being a globalist in 3...2...1...
Already seen lefty shitting on him on Bluesky. There is no one pure enough for them.

Babe Ruth hit 430 home runs after Carter was born.
If Carter did nothing more than his work with the Carter Center to eradicate guinea worm he'd be one of the great humanitarians in human history. Cases have dropped from a million a year to fewer than ten this year.
Carter is an amazing example of how to live a life of kindness and humanity
Carter was a great humanitarian. He led a life well lived.

I just saw that too. Loved that show as a kid.

Dola just to add, Flo is now the only living major orginal cast member still alive. Even the actor that played Alice's son is gone.

I was just watching No Good Deed. Linda Lavin had a part as one of Ray Romano’s neighbors. RIP.

He was a terrible President who we are still feeling the effects of today (although some blame goes to the CIA for fucking him over). But he spent the rest of his life trying to make up for that and did some remarkable humanitarian works that will live on. One of the only Presidents who actually tried to make the world a better place after their Presidency. It's funny you'd think people on the left wouldn't like him when it was the mainstream Democrats who blackballed him for decades due to his humanitarian work. |
It sure if she’s worthy but definitely one of a kind

Nice pic.
Michelle had a "scheduling conflict". Based on the pics, she would have been sitting next to Trump. So, in a way I understand, but also disappointed in her. |
RIP. Love the song.

Melania has that same look on her face 99% of the time she's next to (or under, I'm going to guess) Trump.
