Jesus. What a week.
Can we do a 3-1 trade? |
Jacoby Jones, receiver/returner who played a pretty major role in the Ravens' latest title run, dies at 40, no details available yet.

The little kid from ALF also died
|
James B Sikking from Hill Street Blues too
the guy with the hat... |
|
Man, I was just thinking of him yesterday too. Knew it would come sometime.
|
Dang. He was a funny guy.
|
Damn. RIP.
I often refer to myself as living in a Newhart sketch when I appear to be the only sane person surrounded by a bunch of whackos. |
News anchor Lou Dobbs has passed away at the age of 78
|
Newhart dying is a gut punch. Loved that guy.
|
One of my favorites

Well I mean you do hang out here. |
Newhart was great but also in that group of celebrities I swear died ten years ago.

One of the very best "straight men" out there. His comedic timing was top tier. One of my favorites for sure. |
Newhart was a little before my time but he had a great career. Enjoyed him in Elf.
I liked Dobbs when he stuck to business, then he went in op-ed politics. |
Here's a great Newhart clip from Mad TV:

I refuse to believe Greg Kihn is dead.
Nah uh uh uh uh uh uh uh. In all seriousness, RIP. He had a good run in the early 80s with 2 or 3 memorable songs. |
There have been about 5 people charged today with involvement of actor Matthew Perry's death including a live in caretaker and 2 doctors for taking advantage of his addiction and getting him to pay for ketamine.

good one. yeah I loved that era or late 70s early 80s rock. he had some great songs. died of alzheimers |
Jack Russell from Great White passed away as well.
I had seen some video of him speaking and knew he had some significant health issues. Apparently he had Lewy body dementia and "multiple system atrophy" which sounds frightening, frankly. He'll always be associated with the Rhode Island fire that killed 100 people, although it's not clear-cut how much responsibility he should have taken for that. There is a good documentary about it I remember watching years ago. Anyway, GW was a staple of the late 80s hair band rotation on MTV and had several big hits. RIP. |
Great White seemed to open for every band which I didn't mind at all. Fantastic band.

Peter Marshall X gets the Square has died at 98. I thought he had died a long time ago.

Wow. Yeah, I would have assumed he was long gone.

Another one of those people who have been out of the limelight for so long that you forgot they weren't dead already.
|
Miss him. He was a different personality from what you would later see in the daytime. He would have the shocking subject matter at times, but he was more interested in understanding the subject than exploiting it.

I would've thought he died ten years ago. Crazy, I just looked up and his show ended its run in 1996 (which, I guess kind of coincides with the last time I would have regularly been home during daytime hours and would have noticed it). I just looked up Sally Jessy Raphael and she is still alive at age 89 (show last aired in 2002).

RIP Phil Donahue. I’ll always remember your white mop and respectful (relatively) talk shows.

Yeah he definitely set the stage for people like oprah to come along and have serious discussions about uncomfortable topics-RIP and thanks |
Feels like this is happening way too frequently anymore but as social media, and YouTube in particular, move deeper into their existence then losses are inevitable.
It was announced earlier this evening that content creator Paul Harrell has passed away after fighting valiantly against cancer. An absolute treasure in the firearms/2A content niche, Paul had an exceptional gift for engaging while educating, for entertaining while informing, for making an hour seem like a few minutes. He also provided a considerable contrast to many creators in the niche, softspoken and measured in his words while somehow also coming across as authentic and honest. He was among the very best of the best at what he did and I'm going to miss him. My condolences to his family and crew and fans, may his legacy of educating live on through them and through his work. Rest in peace |
RIP Paul Harrell
Came here to post this, but Jon beat me to it (and said it much more eloquently than I would have), |
It looks like Rich Homie Quan has died of a drug overdose at the age of 34. I don't really know his music, but I have met him before and even been in his home. He seemed a nice enough guy, but was definitely into some shady stuff.

Sorry, meant to get back to this. A few years ago I was working with a company that did bed bug heat treatments. I was called out to do an inspection for a house in a "Mcmansion" type neighborhood. I didn't recognize the name on the account (obviously wasn't under his stage name), and even if it were I had never heard of him. As I was inspecting the house I saw the high end professional recording studio and the gold records on the wall, so I figured out who he was. This was just a short while after he had been arrested in South Georgia on drug and gun charges (they were dropped two years later). I went into one room, and there was an AK propped up next to a window looking out the front. When I gave them the report I mentioned that any weapons and ammo would have to be removed during treatment, a women that was with him said "oh, we don't have any guns." I looked at him, and he looked at me knowingly and sort of quickly shook his head. I just smiled and went on. There was also huge amounts of wees everywhere, but that is pretty common. We didn't end up doing the treatment. |

Nelson DeMille was one of my favorite writers for a couple of summers when I was working a quiet night shift gig between college semesters.
Sad to see him go. (I haven't read anything he's written in the last 25 years, so not overly sad, I guess.) |
Quote:
Very similar to me - I read all of his books back in and just after college and really enjoyed them, but haven't read anything from him in probably close to 20 years. Spencerville was one of my favorites for a long time. I would have sworn he died several years ago, but I guess I am thinking of Clive Cussler. RIP - losing authors is always kind of sad. Knowing there won't be anything new from folks that have been writing for 30 or 40 years puts a certain perspective on aging. |
Dame Maggie Smith dies at 89. She was such a great actress to the end.
