The author Cormac McCarthy passed away at the age of 89.

Last I read he was working on the Blood Meridian script treatment, and I doubt anyone else could do it justice, so that is a bummer.

Too soon? |

It sounds like he was more than good enough. |
Ryan Mallet, former Arkansas Razorback QB and short time NFL qb, drowned in Florida. He was currently a High School head coach in Arkansas. He was only 35.

Tony Bennett has died at 96. He stood out to me as one of the (very) old guard who worked with artists of any age and genre as he grew older. RIP.
|
RIP
Before my time during his prime years. But yeah, I liked how he could do duos with contemporary artists e.g. Lady GaGa. |
I listen to a "Smartless" episode where they did a long interview with Paul Anka (he is Jason Bateman's father in law). Those guys of that generation were something else.

That is so sad. She was definitely a bit on the crazy side, but she had such an amazing voice.
|
RIP.
She did have a great voice. Don't know about crazy but she did have internal struggles (wouldn't be surprised if it was self-inflicted). What could have been if she just stuck to singing. Hope she finally at peace. |

so like is the pope gonna tear up a picture of HER now?

That was, like, 3 popes ago.

Pee-Wee Herman.
Edit: I think. Doesn't seem to be in the news yet but it's on my Facebook feed and a Facebook page that claims to be his. |
Wow. He was 70. Had no idea he was that old. I guess him playing a kid for so long affected my sense of that.
RIP |
Reported by real news sources now. 6-year cancer battle that he kept private.
|
Loved Pee-Wee as a kid. He had a cloud cast over him that was never deserved.

Do you mean it overshadowed his career, or that it wasn't accurate? Because wanking it in a public place is kinda illegal, and certainly salacious when it comes to a kids entertainer. |

Overshadowed. I'm pretty sure he plead no contest to that charge. I always had the impression that the media made a mountain out of a molehill over the whole thing. I've never been to an adult theater, but I thought rubbing one out in them was sort of accepted lol. |

Angus Cloud, 25 year old actor who was a regular on the show "Euphoria." Dead by suicide. Never watched the show, but it is always sad to see someone so young go.

Random question since it came up at work when someone mentioned Pee-Wee's death. At what age does "he was too young" no longer fit. I'm sure we've talked about it before on this board, but curious.

Anyone that's younger than me is too young. |

For me, anyone in their 60's is too young. Anyone in their 80's "had a pretty good run". Somewhere about 72 to 75, is my "well ... ok". |
My parents are hitting 75 and my doctor brother has told them they are officially on borrowed time. So I'd put it somewhere around there.

That's how I feel. |
80 seems almost like the benchmark to me. I'm not shocked if someone in their 70s dies, but do feel like there was maybe some more life to be squeezed out there.
Of course this is probably influenced by the fact that my dad is now 76. It feels like he should have a good deal more time, especially given that both of his parents reached 90 (or almost did, my grandmother may have come up a little short, I forget exactly). Also, my wife's parents are over 80 and seem to be doing relatively well, of course they see doctors regularly and are decently off. (Both of my wife's grandmothers made it well into their 90s; FIL is 85 in Oct and his sister is I believe 9 years older than he is.) |

I'm pretty sure that's the guy who played a chauffeur in a 1990 Columbo episode.

He played two of the most iconic villains in cinema history, Hector Salamanca in "Breaking Bad" and "Better Call Saul", and the ruthless "Alberto" in "Scarface". Sosa - "Alberto is an expert in the disposal business." |
