Yes, meant to post that one. Go All the Way, All By Myself, Hungry Eyes from the Dirty Dancing soundtrack, and he even wrote Almost Paradise for Top Gun.

The Raspberries were a huge influence on subsequent artists, even if they were only together for a brief time (very similar to a band they influenced, Jellyfish).

In my brain, All By Myself was sung by Anne Murray because of how the chorus sounds. That's the only part of the original song I really remember, and that doesn't sound like a dude singing it. It sounds like Anne Murray. I just had my mind totally blown by listening to the original.

Ksyrup 03-13-2024 03:04 PM

I believe Celine Dion also recorded a version of that song, so you might be thinking of that one.

No, that is a very different sound. She sounds nothing like Anne Murray. It is just the way he sings the chorus. That and it probably blends in my mind with "You Needed Me." Just my childhood brain putting things together that don't go togther.

So many classics.

Yeah, she sang ‘corny’ songs and she wouldn’t be successful nowadays but different generation. I mean, you can’t compare Brady to Montana, right?

Walton might be the greatest “what could been” stories all of sports and still became a hall of famer.

As far as his announcing, one man’s annoying is another man’s weird/quirky/interesting.

Ksyrup 05-27-2024 12:53 PM

I was one of the few, it seems, that enjoyed his announcing. He loved the game and enjoyed life and that came through on his broadcasts. As I got older I came to appreciate how differently he approached a broadcast compared to his peers.

I'm pretty sure that story is about his role in The Dirty Dozen, not Kelly's Heroes.

Clint Walker refused to do the phony general reviewing the troops scene, so Robert Aldrich pointed to Sutherland and told him to do it instead. That scene led to him being cast in MASH.

I suppose it's directly related to how long someone has been out of the public eye (or at least my eye), but there are some people who seem like they are way older (or younger) than they are.

Word Perfect was great. Simply the best word processor at the time. My daughter found my old WP keyboard command template, and couldn't believe that we used to use keyboard shortcuts for everything.

Aside from functionality, my favorite WP experience was one time calling for technical support. First, they had a DJ playing music and providing live updates on hold status for specific issues, second was that they had a party line option where callers could assist one another while they were on hold. I imagine that a lot of their calls were resolved in that environment at very little expense to them. Just Brilliant.
