Depends on the roster given to you by the Hattrick gods. Otherwise as soon as you get your team:

Invest 20k in youth squad
Read dataking's dynasty
See who the dominate teams in your division are
See what division you are in
Don't spend all your money
Try to stay out of debt
Get at least an inadequate keeper (I would say passable, but some people say they do fine with an inad)
See where your strengths are, if it is at defense consider a more conservative formation. If at anywhere else think about a 3-4-3, 3-5-2.
Find out where you have young talented players that you can train. THen decide what you want to train. If you have good midfield, train midfield, good defense try defense.

Dont worry about this season or the next season. Unlessy your extremely lucky and in an all bot league you probably wont be able to win.

That being said here are some things to do

1. Try to get yourself in a break-even position. Upgrade you team very slowly, Low passable or high inadequete is what you want to look for. Also, I wouldnt recommend buying any expensive players over the age of say 24 or 25, that way you will get your return.

Decide on on part of the team to train. And stick with it for a few season. I think Billy summed this game up best, This is a marathon, not a Sprint. If you try to do too much too fast you will fall into debt, and never get ahead.

I know I will have a ton of Q's... This is my third time joining, after two unsuccessful stints... I figure with the summer coming up I will have some free time, and the idea again interest me.

Is Hattrick Supporter worth it?

I might just buy it... to ensure I "stick" with the game, because I know if I put money into it, I will "have" to stick with it. Thanks

You should read this thread (http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/~fof/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8644) and this thread (http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/~fof/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8123) has all the relevant reading as well. Reading the help in Hattrick rules is good and you can chek out Datakings Dynasty (http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/~fof/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4766) for ideas and the building of a new team.

these are probably the sites to help you the most:

ABCs of Tactics (http://hem.passagen.se/hammervald/abc_of_tactics/abc_of_tactics_index.htm)

Hattricks (http://www.databased.at/hattrick/index.asp)

My Best Team (http://www.mycgiserver.com/servlet/groton.stayaway.MyBestTeam)

Hattrick Gameday (http://hattrickgameday.tripod.com/)

And the most important one you can read is:

Hattrick Rules (http://195.149.159.153/Common/gamerules.asp?find=intro&site=HT)

In *MY* opinion, yes. Reasons:
a) adds some neat (though not necessary) features to your team management.
b) if you become a HT addict (and the fact that you're here suggests you probably will) it's a nice idea to do it to support the HT team that makes it all possible
c) it's really not all that expensive, in the grand scheme, refer to item (b).
