NEVER heard the phrase until Top Chef New York, and now there's a thread devoted to whether or not Hannah Storm is a cougar here.

Older women (typically in their 40s) who date younger men (typically in their 20s). I think the name also comes from the propensity of older women to wear leopard print clothing while being on the 'hunt' for younger men.

That's my guess and I'm sticking to it.

I didn't think "hot" was a necessary part of the equation. I've seen Lisa Rinna referred to as a cougar, and she is no longer hot (well, I'm partially guessing as I CAN'T SEE THE REST OF HER FACE BEHIND HER LIPS). The main thing is that they are older and prowling for their prey...

edit: and usually they either *think* that they are hot or are dressing as if they are 20 years younger than they really are

Really all she needs to be is a 6.0 on the 10.0 scale.

In my opinion, a Cougar is someone who just looks like they want to get F***** by a younger guy, and bad. Ever see Ocean's 13? That lady was a Cougar.

According to this article, the term dates back to between '99 and '01, possible origin "cougardate.com" and popularized by the book Cougar: A Guide for Older Women Dating Younger Men..

And no, hotness is not a requirement as far as I'm familiar with the term.

One does not actually have to be dating someone younger than her to be called a Cougar. In fact, a Cougar probably wouldn't even want to date, just have casual sex.

In my book, Hannah Storm is a Cougar, and not a MILF.

A MILF and a cougar can be exclusive of each other. If the MILF isn't hitting the bars at 40 dressed in a halter top and heels, then she's a not a cougar.

In Hannah Storm a cougar? I have no idea. I would assume she's married, which still doesn't eliminate any potential cougarhood. In fact, there many cougars out there hitting their sexual peak that get bored by family life, and want a little something on the side.

Just in case you aren't aware, many men, myself included, are going to look at it like this:

In the world in my head, if I saw Hannah Storm across a crowded room and we made eye contact, its a near certainty that we would end up having sex. You may want to find Flasch's classic "lumberjack" post in the Hannah Storm thread as a reference. Really, the only reason Hannah and I haven't had sex is that she hasn't met me yet. And I'm a good bit younger than her. Thus, she is scientifically proven to be a cougar.

I look at it from the standpoint of what the average American 40 year old female looks like. I see countless women who aren't even 40 who would love to look that good. Could she post a pic on something like Hot or Not and get something like a 9+ score? You bet. If Demi Moore is one of the gold standards of what a hot cougar looks like(not that I agree with her being hot, but anyway), then I find the TVLand cougar better looking.
