Hattrick announces

2006-11-13 02:00: Maintenance

Hattrick is literally on the road. We are moving part of our server installation to a second data center in order to improve our availability in the future. We expect to be back online Tuesday at 17.00. If everything goes smoothly, Hattrick may come online earlier than that. But as it is impossible to know exactly how much time something like this takes, there is also a risk that it will take more time than planned. We will keep you updated regularly. Sorry for the inconvenience.

2006-11-13 02:10: Start taking down the site

2006-11-13 02:25: Start removing servers from rack

2006-11-13 06:45: Everything packed

2006-11-13 07:00: On truck

2006-11-13 07:40: Arrived at airport

2006-11-13 09:00: Loading the airplane

2006-11-13 09:45: Airplane taking off

2006-11-13 11:15: Over Malmö (Malmoe), Sweden

2006-11-13 11:45: Over Hamburg, Germany

Dola - This migration couldn't have come at a worse time for me. Right before they took it down last night (about 7 mins into the 2nd half), I had just scored to go up 1-0 in a game to clinch my first Div V title. This wait sucks.

i was actually tied with #1 1-1 at that time...

a tie clinches no qualifier for me.

Sorry, I know what time they said they would be up. I meant does anyone know what time they will really be up.

My bad. Yeah, I have no insights on that.

If they're not up by the time they said they would be, then it will obviously mean that there were unforeseen issues. So I would venture to guess that nobody knows what time they will really be up -- not even them.

we're back...

i lost 3-1 and lost 3 supporters.

i was expecting to get a player via the TL on the slight cheap since they warned everyone about the shutdown but they pushed out the end of transfers with the downtime so another 1.5 days to wait.

season results:

if we (CC FC, #3) lose to Holder FC (#4) sunday on the road and Cal Bears (#5) beats Davenport (#2) then I finish in 5th place and get a qualifier.

If CC FC draws, finish 3rd.

If CC FC wins, and Cal Bears beats Davenport, then CC FC finishes in 2nd, Davenport in 3rd, Cal in 4th and Holder in 5th.

so, yeah.. cal bears is the key to 2-5th in iv.23

I have to admit, this move appears to have went better than I expected. Maybe the hattrick team is starting to really pull things together...

that or they do what i do, make time estimates twice as long as i think they will take. then when i finish "early", im a hero ;)

Wasn't there an episode of Star Trek: TNG with Scotty where he asks Geordi how long something will really take and is surprised the new engineer said the correct time and he gave him a little lecture about how he always told the captain it would take twice as long so it looked like he was a miracle worker?

you must not work with very hard deadlines then. I don't work in software development but there's no way I could consistantly tell my boss I'll deliver in double time than what it should take. Once you make one time, it pretty much becomes the standard to any higher ups... :(

i actually have worked with very strict deadlines with billions of dollars on the line. it really just depends on the project. some you get to set expectations, some they tell you.

worst deadline i ever had was i came into work one morning at 7:00. there was the vp of another department waiting for me at my desk (luckily i was early). he said we got a new client this morning. i have 50 users waiting for you and the client is onsite and in the next cube over waiting on you. i need it working in 30 minutes what normally takes 2-3 days. needless to say, i had a rough day.
