Just sitting there browsing HT looking at how my former players are doing.

Looking at Daniel Muros, one of my first keepers. I sold him for $190,000 back in july 2003 to a german team called FC Barcelona EV (7237) , who was then in div 3 . Anyways, turns out Muros has never played a single game for the team. Barcelona has since then been relegated from div 3 to div 4, then to div 5 thru a qualification game and now just sits there. Mine was the last player he ever bought. Furthermore, Hattrick records no logins for this team at all.

How can this be ? I would have expected such a team to be closed down a long time ago, no ?

The login sheet just shows logins within the last 3 weeks I believe. I tihnk that's what GM-George told me once, however, of course the GM's can see past that.

The logins are kept for longer than 3 weeks, though I'm not sure how long exactly. They are definitely kept for 7 weeks, because I've tracked the login history of two teams in my series from when they stopped logging in until they got (or should be) replaced.

I know that in the US, you don't get replaced until you're a division V team, so for example Minute Men will just sit and drop and drop and drop until he's a dV team and then will come back to life with a new owner and squad. I imagine this is a global HT rule, that a team cannot be taken over until it lands in its country's 2nd to last division. I don't know how big Germany is (in terms of number of divisions) but if it's 7 divisions, then it makes sense. If it's only 6, well.....I find it hard to believe Germany doesn't have a waiting list so I guess that's my theory shot to hell...

tk, have just checked and Germany does indeed have 7 levels, so I guess you hit it on the head !

You can see if a team is in walkover freefall using the "check reset of lineup tool" (which does not show a reset for FC Barcelona EV, indicating that they will not be reset until the end of the season if they're inactive).
