Fairly good weather for football had drawn a crowd of 20848 to Long Island Pride Arena. Island tactics involved an interesting 3-4-3 combination. The following players had been chosen: Yoder - Dozier, Lozano, Lyhsjö - Martinsson, Van Aerde, Andreasson, King - Mchenry, Walter, Frye.

Blackburn tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. The following players had been chosen: Dennis - Nyhfeldt, Sakic, Öhflod - Ivarsson, Zarza, Gainza, Singletary, Call - Torsson, Smalley.

After 4 minutes Blackburn put themselves up by 0 - 1 as Johan Torsson finished off a strike from the left with a real cannon placed at the far post. In the game's 17:th minute Blackburn´s Miguel Zarza limped slightly after a late challenge, but he was able to continue. Blackburn´s Jimmie Smalley received a play slashing through the home side´s defense in the 18:th minute, chipping it past the keeper scoring 0 - 2. The home crowd was not pleased with that one. Island´s Jan-Maarten Van Aerde refused to leave the field after injuring his achilles tendon in the 32nd minute. Jimmie Smalley of Blackburn received a yellow card in the 37:th minute for unsportsmanlike behaviour. Island had a nice free kick routine in the 44:th minute that was very close to paying off, had it not been for a dramatic save by the visitors keeper. 0 - 2 was the half-time score. Blackburn held the ball, with a clear 57 percent possession rate.

The referee showed Islands Seth Frye the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. After 64 minutes Seth Frye made a speedy advance and dropped the ball to Steve Walter who shuffled the ball past the keeper. The score was now 1 - 2. With a shot floated in from just outside the penalty area in the 70:th minute, Kim King of Island evened the score to 2 - 2. Blackburns Francisco Gainza got himself booked after a foul. Seemingly due to lack of experience, Ilija Sakic needlessly tripped an opponent just outside the penalty area, but the free kick that followed didn't succeed. Some beautiful plays on the left side of the field resulted in a 83rd minute goal by Seth Frye for Island, putting them ahead 3 - 2. 84 minutes into the game Blackburn´s Francisco Gainza found a gap in the home sides central defense scoring with a long shot, making it 3 - 3. Blackburn held the ball, with a clear 54 percent possession rate.

Most important Island player was Alex Andreasson. Larry Lyhsjö on the other hand, had a terrible day. The most dominating Blackburn player was without a doubt Miguel Zarza. Johan Torsson was a disappointment, however. The match ends 3 - 3.
