View Full Version : Question About Lineup Strategies

I haven't been using the "towards middle," "towards wing," etc.. I've only used Defensive for a midfielder I have with passable playmaking and defense. Would you apply any tactics to the following guys? I run a 5-3-2...

(I count a skill at this point a secondary if it's inadequate or higher....)

Position Secondaries
1. Wing Playmaking, scoring
2. Wing Passing
3. Forward Winger
4. Wing Scoring
5. Central D Playmaking
6. Central D Passing

I was thinking of making #1 Offensive (since both of these wing players are in my starting lineup... unless having 2 offensive wings, and a defensive midfielders isn't bad...). Not sure what to do with the rest.

Looking for any input, thanks.

First off all never play an inner midfielder towards the wing. Secondly 5-3-2 is a terrible formation

Dola,

Reread the rules. You concept of secondary isn't correct

I'm training defending... is there a better formation to use when training defense? And I'm not playing a midfielder towards the wing...

Mike, unless you wanna play a counter-attack strategy, playing a 5-4-1 would be better than a 5-3-2. With a 5-3-2, you will get killed in the midfield. With a 5-4-1, you could have a better chance, although you will most probably lose the midfield quite often.

I heard of defense trainer playing a 4-5-1 during league play and 5-4-1 during friendlies. You lose a trainee per week, but you get a better midfield, thus a better chance at winning when it counts, which is on Sunday.

I agree with Kevin in that I'm not sure you understand secondarie. for example, scoring, even if it's a player's second best skill, can NEVER be a secondary skill. It's a pure primary skill. Passing, defending, even playmaking can be secondary skills, but scoring will always be a primary skill only...

Im a defending trainer and I player 3-5-2 in league/cup matches and 5-x-x in friendlies. There is no way I can compete in league and cup matches with 5 defenders. I just know I loose 2 trainee positions per week, but I would rather win competitve games than train 2 extra guys. Now if I know its a walkover or I am completely unmatched, Ill play 4-4-2 or 5-x-x in a league or cup. But thats pretty rare.

Oh, ok... I thought that if a guy has high scoring, and I play him offensive, he'll do better than if he had poor scorring... I guess not.

I like the 5-3-2... so I'll try out counter-attack in my first league game. I'm facing a guy I should be able to easily beat. I'll see how it goes. Switching to more midfielders will mean I'll have to spend some unavailable money on a good midfielder, so I want to avoid it if I can. However, I don't have great passing defenders... so this could get ugly. :o

Thanks for the help.

This would be good to try if/when I get money to spend on midfielders.:)

Yeah, if you had 3 stud midfielders and 2 stud forwards, you could do a 5-3-2 attack in the middle. But I know I dont. My mid might be able to pull it off against a bot team, but I dont want to take the chance usually.

You in V or VI? I personally decide individual tactics in a game by game basis--Although I will say that I prefer wingers (I don't know how you had three wingers) to always be offencive.

I'm in V in Canada... The last winger than I listed is on my friendly team... I'll try one of my wingers as offensive... he's scoring goals on Normal, so maybe this'll help even more. :D

I'd go with 5-4-1. You can probably compete with that in your series.

So I'd basically just need another midfielder, correct? I'd be able to rearrange people to get an inadequate starting with my passable defensive guy... that should be good enough? My passable forward wouldn't be playing though. :(

Well, I'd try to replace him asap.. you can get some passables for cheap I'd think.

saintjo - I know you're trying to be competitive with the 3-5-2...but how is training defenders profitable with only 8 trainees? One of the only benefits I've heard about defender training is that you can train up to 10 guys. I can see 9 guys working, just from a tactical standpoint...but 8? I can train 6 IMs at once, and an extra 4 at 50%, and they go much quicker than defender training does...

I train defending and run the 3-5-2 with the 5-4-1 in friendlies/cup. I currently have 5 Excellent Defenders and Three Solids. Before the end of the season I expect to have 3 Outstanding Defenders, at least 3 Formidable, and 2 excellents. There is plenty of money to made from that group. It may not be as profitable as other forms of training, but since I've decided to stick with defending, the 3-5-2/5-4-1 combo is the best way to make money and still be competitive.
