View Full Version : FOFC National Team Trainer Nominee Poll
We might as well get this rolling. Vote for CW, myself, or other and your write in candidate.
I'm not sure how long we should let this poll last, since the election and such will start relatively soon.
Candidates: Feel free to post why you deserve the FOFC vote here.

Well, no one's saying it, so I will.
I have a couple of reservations on voting for AE:
1) Lack of upper league experience -- 1 season as a D3 doormat isn't exactly knowing how to strategize with titanic or better players. I don't give this huge weight, but a lot of US voters do and it will be an issue.
2) Correct me if I'm wrong here, but aren't you still active duty military? If so, can you GUARENTEE you will not be called away somewhere where you will be unable to give the amount of time and attention required to running the national team? Even have internet access at all? I assume it's not an issue or you wouldn't even run, but I haven't seen you "say" so.
I guess I'll have to see who else is running before making the call, but I'd have to say, I'd really consider apoc, billycu, and/or IndyRacing if they run.

apoc and indy have already been U20 coaches, so they won't run. billay has said he won't run as well.
Well, no one's saying it, so I will.

Good question, dacman.
I can guarantee I won't be called away. My sea rotation is up. I'm on permanent shore duty for the remainder of my enlistment. There is no possible way I'll be going to sea in the near future, near being the next 3 years.
That's a very good reason why I haven't thrown my "hat in the ring" before. Previously, I was sea duty which isn't an ideal situation, regardless.
As is, I'm on instructor duty, and have nothing but loads of spare time to contribute to our National team.

I kinda agree with Dacman here.... as much as i like AE. He really doesn't have much upper level experiance. And not to knock him, but he's had his team for a LONG time and its not really dominate or anything. We have guys who have had they're teams for half as long and are just as good. AE definitly gets my vote for "FOFC Cool Guy" :) but for a serious USA National Team coach, i don't know.
Honestly, as crazy as this may sound, i think Afoci should run. He's built a strong team, made one hell of a USA Cup run, and made a very good showing in the "USA vs Sweden" thread in Hattrick. Also since im a supporter of him, i see how much he logs in so i know he's really loves HT :)
but i'll back whoever we go with, i just don't think we've put alot of thought into it this season.

Havok, well I agree with a few of your points, especially the ones about AE's odd smell, odd appearance and overall suckability as a club owner :D, I would have to say that it would take a lot to get me run in the USA. As odd as it seems, I really want to win one election in Canada. I know it is next to impossible, but it is something I really badly want to do. Maybe if I am unsuccessful in my next two runs(assuming that TP or lytic are running for U-20) in Canada, I would run in the USA, but now, Ardent is my guy. He has the backing of GM-George, which is huge. The FOFC alone, as big as it is, can't get a guy elected. And while I am known outside of the FOFC, I am not sure it is in the greatest light. As much as we dislike Slashers, he is a very popular guy and my ripping of him and his tactics has probably portrayed a 'whiner' light on me. If AE didn't want to run, I might consider it as well, but I think overall he is probably much more electable than I am.

Well, in all fairness, I would point out that I was on deployment for most of last year. While I was able to improve my team somewhat, I wasn't able to put in near the amount of time I did before the deployment. Typically, if I wanted a player, I had to pay well over the going price just to make sure I got the player.
Most of you know I poured a lot of time into my team before I left, and I have been doing the same since I have returned.
Logging into HT during deployment was incredibly hard. Typically, when you first go to the site hattrick.org, you'll instantly get the hattrick welcome page.
I didn't. Instead, I was greeted to generally a 10 minute wait as I watched all the "loading" go on. I'm not kidding. It was incredibly slow.
Don't know what I'm talking about? Check out the bottom of the window when you go to hattrick.org. You'll see that a bunch of stuff loads up, rather quickly. It didn't load rather quickly for me out at sea.
Anyway, from there I set text size to smallest and turn off pictures in hopes of helping me load pages faster.
It was never a guarantee that I could/would get a chance to log in either, based on the condition of our satellite systems.
It was hard, and even though there was a 2 week period where I wasn't allowed internet access due to operational commitment, I was still able to win DIV.43. In fact, I won two cup matches and two league matches while I was offline during the time...a testament that I planned well ahead. I had to given my situation.

I've been resisting any temptation to contribute to this thread, but at this point I kind of feel it's necessary.
Currently, I support AE for national trainer. I agree that there are a number of qualified candidates. Many have been mentioned in this thread: Apoc, Billycu, Indy, Afoci, CW, AE...the list goes on (excluding BillyMadison).
In terms of actual interest, though, many qualified candidates have turned the idea down. The one candidate I can think of who hasn't outright turned it down other than AE is CW. This is not to knock CW, I love him as a person, and I enjoy reading his posts...and a man who loves coffee and Guinness can't be bad. :) BUT. Between those AE and CW, I've seen much more activity in terms of actively discussing and "campaigning" from AE.
AE has started considering a "speech" to let USA people know who he is and why he's a good candidate. He's trying to get himself well-known in the HT community, dropping by guestbooks and such. Yeah, I know, it doesn't mean a lot, but I haven't heard much from CW to suggest he really wants the job, wheras AE seems really excited.
And that has to be a big part of it. It's not a job for the weak-hearted. The person who does it not only has to have time for the job but really show a strong want for it, because let's face it, if things don't go well with the squad, that's all he (OR SHE) is going to have, the love and want of the job. AE has already explained why he has time.
CW, please, or for that matter, ANYBODY, if what I'm saying is wrong or needs appending, please do it! Just as I see it right now, AE seems like he really wants it...and that has to count for a LOT, including skill as an HT-er. And for that, I honestly don't know who has more "skill," they both have helped me in my HT career.
Just my $.02, let the flames come,

If you are going to include lack of upper level experiance as a reason not to support somebody, you should probably not nominate somebody with much less upper level experience in the same post.

FWIW, the only high-level manager (edit: non-FOFC) that I currently know of who is expected to run is madhero (proprietor of arabia) and I think he's going down from II to III. I imagine some others will wind up throwing their hats in the ring, but he's the only one I've heard of so far.

He did mention my run in the cup though which included outsmarting(ie getting really, really lucky) against a DIII, DII, and ML team before getting slaughtered. ;)

Also guys remember, the guys who are just starting out have a much better chance at getting better quicker than most of us oldies. You guys have a forum to post problems, tips, tricks, hints, advice, etc. When we first started playing we did about the biggest noob mistakes that no one would make anymore. This put us in the hole early on. Not saying that it's an excuse, but from personal experience, it is much easier to start off with good help and not make HUGE noob mistakes, than to start off with no help, making HUGE noob mistakes (adding 5 VIP seats as a stadium expansion comes to mind).

You have my vote. I voted for other and nominate vexroid. He is the only FOFCer to my knowledge to do very well at Division IV from the start. I think he is the best choice, no offense to the other potnetial people running.
I think he also adds a freshness to the running and can win votes of non FOFCers. Out of all the candidates for FOFC I think he has the best shot of actually winning it.

Disclaimer: I've been drinking and didn't read the last half of this thread.
To Havok, and everyone else who thinks that upper level experience is so important, I offer two points:
1. Who is running the team right now and how much benefit did that experience provide the US? Like the real world, experience matters, but is not the end all be all. In the end, and I'm sorry for bringing it up, it is just a numbers game. You manage Titanic players the same way you manage Wretched players. I'd prefer to see someone who respects the game and is clear thinking running things over someone who's been around since the start but makes rash stubborn decisions.
2. I forgot already, but I think number one is enough and probably includes a two.
Sorry Vex. You know I didn't mean to leave you out. Had I known, I would have included you as well. I apologize.
You may feel free to start a different poll, including all three of us. If you do, this poll will be null and void.

*Ahem* AE, you suck, you are a disappointment. You couldn't stay in Div. III for more than 1 season, even if the other teams NSIs outdid you by 20-30 points, that's no excuse! I still expected you you to be in Div. II this season, you are a disappointment. You can't even accomplish your goals, you aim to give up 80 goals, and you can't even let the other team score, how do you NOT let the other team score, once again, disapointment. And just because your team sucks, you've come up with this magnificent hoax about how you're in the Navy and you couldn't get to a computer. Well, the truth was you were afraid to come around since even Div. VI teams could kick your butt. Disapointment, as always;)
