i have a theory about the "extra inner midfielder" and how exactly he contributes to the team. well actually this would be a valid question for any "extra" position player, but im really just interested about the midfielders right now.

now obviously his stanima/playmaking contribute to the midfield rating. also i know they loose some skill from playing out of position according to the rules. but my main question is about their secondaries and how they firgure into other ratings. for intance, the regular midfieldiers passing helps contribute to the offense ratings of center attack wing attack according to the rules, but only for the side the midfielder is playing on.

for instance, from the rules...
Attack Left wing rating depends on...
Winger Left winger
Scoring forwards
Passing left winger
Passing left inner midfielder
Winger left wing back

Where would the "Extra Inner Midfielder's" passing fit into this? I would imagine they do not, which I doubt, or somehow it helps, but much less.

So my theory is that if you run with 3 inner midfielders, your "Extra Inner Midfielder's" secondary skills matter very little to the overall ratings. I am considering buying a player with only high stanima and playmaking for this position with lower/no secondaries.

Anyone else have any thoughts?

I'll try this for my league match on Sunday. I have one IM with Exc Stam and PM, but terrible everywhere else. My other two IM's have Passable PM, but very solid secondaries.

I've been playiong my 3rd best PM as my extra MF all along. I did this because, as you noted, the rules say his contribution is reduced. My logic is to have my worst player reduced, not one of my best. So whether or not his weak passing is being added in or not is of little consequence, IMO.

XIM is supposed to function exactly the same as if they were a regular IM with normal orders, on the same side of the field as where they start out (e.g. a left central defender repositioned as an XIM becomes a left IM), and with an across-the-board performance penalty.

so who's passing skill do they take into account when calculating that sides wing and center attack ratings? the extra, the original, or both?

I'd say both, ofcourse the ExIMF has his passing number weakened
