For a trainee (17 yo) with a solid secondary and a passable primary?

I was tempted to purchase one today, but wasn't sure what kind of bid he'd warrant, and then he got real expensive real quick (400k). He was a Passable Stamina/PM, Solid Defender.

Thats because he is actually a solid primary, passable secondary if you are a defense trainer.
400k for a solid 17 year old is a little high by 50k or so, but with a passable playmaking i would be all over him if i had the money at 400k. Thats one heck of a offensive center defender.

I totally understand that he is a solid primary passable secondary to someone else...I'm just curious as to what you would pay, say, for a Solid PM, Passable Defense player if you were a defense trainer?

now these numbers are just from what i have notices and i havent been doing this really long, but...

17 year old passable with no secondaries are usually 30k-300k it seems if you shop around and how high or low his assessed value is. i think a 17 year old solid defender is usually in the 300k's, so a high passable would be close to that. if he had a solid PM, i would be fighting the PM trainers for him, so that would drive up the price really quick since you have more than twice as many people looking at him on the transfer wire. personally since my midfield is so weak, i would pay 400k-500k for a guy like that easy. playing him offenively would probably raise my midfield at least half a level, if not a whole one.

Vince, I've been shopping a little for some new trainees and I would guess a player like that could go as high as 600k, easily, maybe more... Main reason why so much, is that he's appealing to many more player. To defense trainers for the reasons explained above and to playmaking trainers because he's solid in a secondary skill, one you will never train...

The good thing with a player like that is that he can double as an offensive centreback on Sunday and as a playmaking trainee on Wednesday :)

This is what I do with Reimund Brigg, my old trainee :)

Reimund Brigg
1 286 000 C$, 21 years, excellent form
Has wretched experience and inadequate leadership abilities

Stamina: passable Keeper: disastrous
Playmaking: excellent Passing: solid
Winger: wretched Defending: solid
Scoring: weak Set Pieces: disastrous

:)

He popped to excellent playmaking last week. Yeah, I know he's old for a trainee, but is a heck of an offensive centreback, and becoming pretty good as an offensive middie, so he'll stay for a few more seasons :)

I'd shit myself for a middie with solid passing.

Dude, you have the money, go spend it! :)

Here's another trainee, one I bought with the money from the sale of my first formidable playmaker...

Miao Thanh-Tuan
424 000 C$, 18 years, passable form
Has disastrous experience and weak leadership abilities

Stamina: inadequate Keeper: disastrous
Playmaking: solid Passing: solid
Winger: poor Defending: weak
Scoring: poor Set Pieces: inadequate

Paid 919k U$ for him. Maybe it was too much, but I'm happy with him. Strangely enough, he's a Canadian that I bought on the Portugal market :) Someday he'll be the star of my midfield :)

Hmmm, I'll be searching for a middie soon, when one of the three formidable middies pop to outstanding today or next week.......it might be time to put a dent in my pocketbook.

dola, to finish my thoughts on my 18yo solid passer, I'd rather pay a bit more for a player with good secondarie, the skills I will never train, than for a player with very high primary skill, but crap as secondary... This is even more true for me if I see the player as a long term fixture for my team...

My thoughts exactly. Passing skill = Poor or worse = No Buy

well, yes and no. Sometimes you can have an amazing buy (great low price on a one time bid, nobody else bidding against you), but you know the fellow will never play on your A team.

The other day, I missed a player of that sort when Hattrick crapped on me. I had a 17yo solid playmaker bookmarked, with only poor passing & defending. Selling price ended up being only 123k! Think about it, I probably would have trained him only long enough to sell him back when he popped to formidable in about a season...

Yeah, maybe I should have bid up a little more on this guy (went for $417k). Oh well...you live, you learn.

FrogMan

yeah, for 417k, he would have been a nice buy... Don't be nervous, spend that money!!! (it's so easier to say when it 's not your own money :) )
