I wonder if the "thick cut" bacon is for a reason like it helps hold it together...or if it's just cause, you know, it's more bacon than regular cut bacon.

To elaborate, this was real good. I don't care for Italian sausage so we used a mild pork sausage. I forgot to put the cheese in as well. The cooking went OK considering I don't have a proper smoker. We made some can buttermilk biscuits, sliced the "loaf" and served it on the biscuits sprinkled with sharp cheddar cheese. This thing is great. The outside bacon gets all smoky and crispy just on the edges, and the sausage cooks up solid, with the bbq sauce and bacon layer inside breaking it up some. Just YUM.

It only has two pounds of pickles, 2 heads of lettuce, 2 tomatoes, 2 onions and 25 slices of cheese. For an extra few dollars, they'll make it a BACON doublewide, with 24 slices of bacon.
I think I can take it.

So I have to necro this thread in order to share with you all what I did this weekend...
A few friends from work and I got together for "BaconFest," what I hope will become an annual tradition. The rules were simple...everyone had to bring/prepare a bacon-related item, and everybody had to try at least one bite of everything.
We started with a bacon-cheese spread on crackers, followed shortly by bacondillas (my contribution...quesadillas made with bacon). The entrees were a bacon-explosion, and bacon-stuffed double cheeseburgers (topped with cheddar-bacon cheese). And then bacon-brownies for dessert.
All of the above items were good, but the bacon-explosion was the real crowd-pleaser. The guy that made it used a spicy italian sausage, and it really complemented the bacon quite well.
All in all a delicious way to spend a Saturday afternoon. First thing this morning I confirmed that everyone who attended was indeed still alive. We had the EMTs in speed-dial just in case. :D
Just thought I would share my bacon-explosion experience with you all. :)

This is a good idea. I made it using the sausage recipe, and it was just too much pork. Other than the really cool step of making the bacon weave, it was just inedible (to me, at least. The cats loved it.)
I think it'd be perfect with beef instead.

It's unhealthy, but it's not as bad as it looks. The bread was probably the unhealthiest element of a regular sandwich. I mean there is a lot of saturated fat in it, but really no sugar to speak of and a ton of protein. In fact, you could argue that the grilled one isn't a bad meal if you are working out before.

Had the Double Bypass at Vortex Bar and Grill in Atlanta last night.
1 pound of burger
2 fried eggs
6 slices of american cheese
8 slices of bacon
served between two grilled cheese sandwiches
It was a good burger...almost to much. But there was enough variation in it all to keep me eating.
Oh, and I had a side of cheese tots with it...

I'd love to tackle one of those eating challenge burgers, but I'm semi-lactose intolerant, so I'd need a waiver to substitute like a bacon slice for each slice of cheese.

Bonus points for the hottie.
Double points for the napkin consumption.

A buddy of mine turned 30 a couple weeks ago and decided to have a bacon party. Unfortunately, due to some brutal weather on the night of the party, nearly half of the people who were supposed to make it couldn't, so we missed out on some dishes, but the one's that were there were awesome.
There ended up being:
- Candied bacon (I was meh on this but most loved it)
- Bacon wrapped perogies (awesome during dinner and even better as a cold breakfast the next morning)
- Bacon wrapped sausage and cheese (my first attempt at doing a bacon weave dish and I was pleasantly surprised, going to try it with chicken next time). Was a bit too heavy for some, but seemed like those that liked it pretty much loved it.
- Half Bagel Melts with bacon, cheese, ranch and tomato
I had to test out the bacon weave a few times prior to the party to find out the proper way to cook it, but in the end, was very happy with how it turned out. Does have me tempted to try the full blown bacon explosion at some point.

EpicMealTime strikes again.
Lasagna prepared with 15 Big Macs, 15 Bacinators, and 15 A&W burgers. Oh, and some onion rings, Big Mac sauce, and gallons of spaghetti and meat sauce. Oy.
