View Full Version : 80's Musical "What If?" question

DaddyTorgo

I asked my brother this and he yelled at me for always asking the tough questions. So now I ask you all:

If you had to be a member of any 80's band/group what would it be and what role would you take? Assume you would not REPLACE the person whose role you are doing, just supplement and learn from them.

The band/group must have released an album in the 80's

Haha. No no no silly guys. You have to a PLAYING/SINGING member of the band. And yes, assume that you have the requisite talent.

No, no. Def Leapard's drummer had one leg and two arms.

keyboardist for Van Halen. Eddie would have been freed up to play just guitar in concert, and I would have gathered mad props for my keyboard version of Spanish Fly and Eruption.

Neil Schon is awesome. I saw the Steve Miller Band about 5 years ago. Neil came out and jammed with them for about 10 minutes. He really rocked the house. One of the best I have seen live.

As far as joining an 80's band, I would have to choose Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Lead guitar.

If it would earn me a starring role in 'The Disorderlies', I'd join the Fat Boys. Plus, that remake of 'Wipeout' was way better than the original.

Wrong. Def Leppard's drummer, Rick Allen, lost his left arm in a car accident.

bus accident. saw it on some VH1 "behind the music" thing
wikipedia:

On December 31st, 1984, while driving his Corvette with his girlfriend in the UK, he slammed into a wall. He was thrown from the car. His left arm was severed due to his seatbelt not being completely engaged. Despite attempts by doctors to reattach it, infection set in, and the arm had to be reamputated.

What about Ace Frehly? What happened to him? I've got that damn Rock Soldiers song stuck in my head now.

"Ace is back and I told you so..."

I remember buying his big debut solo cassette. Man that thing sucked except for that song.

Rick Allen lost his arm in a car accident based on the Def Leppard website.

Vince Neil's daughter died when she was young (4), of stomach cancer. He was in a car accident, drunk driving, and killed the drummer from Hanoi Rocks, Razzle Dingley.

Metallica was in a bus accident and lost their bassist Cliff Burton. Kirk and Cliff had picked from a deck of cards to see who had to sleep in the top bunk...Kirk won and lived.

I'm confused. Are we supposed to take on an additional instrument not already in the band, or be a contributing member playing an instrument they already have and don't need another of (like, for instance, second drummer for 38 Special :) )?

Good one. Then you could keep the band together, instead of splitting it into two pieces.

Another good one: Izzy Stradlin's understudy. You know, just in case he ever left the band and they needed a replacement.

And Richie Valens won the coin flip and goes down in an Iowa cornfield. I'd replace Roy Bittan in The E Street Band, be the greatest rock keyboardist ever and never flip or draw high card for anything, and if I did I'd lose on purpose.
