This league really is a Friday night fix. Every Saturday, I decide to create a solo league and run it the same way (lock everything on opening day and sim the whole season)...then I get bored and frustrated with the AI and delete it by this time Saturday afternoon.

hahaha...I know! I hate it.
I think that the answer might be to create a Saturday league for when FOOL isn't in session. Maybe just a few teams of us who do it, nothing too complicated, just a short league we can run fast or something.
I dunno...I'm totally with you on this. lol

I'd be completely game on that. I'd even volunteer to run it. I've been wanting to learn how to commish a game, and that seems like the perfect low-pressure way to get started.
Something like 8 teams, one division, split season, either reserve rosters or a single minor league level would probably be very doable on a quick-sim schedule.

I'm down for that, too. Especially the part where you said "you'd run it." ;)
I can bring uniforms to the Thanksgiving dinner, tho. :)

dola,
You're not alone, Tim. My game for today has been trying to figure out the best way to quick-sim a historical league, and I'm about to see how quickly I can destroy the '62 Mets fresh out of expansion.

I'd be down for that. We could even test out theories about team function, such as 6 man vs 4 man rotations and things like that. Put me down for a team.

Every time I run a solo league in spare time, it only takes a matter of 1 or 2 seasons before it ends up a test league where I get to try out some new crazy idea that forces the entire league to spiral into craziness and eventually abandoned once I finish my tests.

What should we call it? Saturday Night Baseball? Front Office Day League?

+1
I was beta testing for so long that by the time the game came out, I was spent. When FOOL got underway, I had no idea that it'd ever ACTUALLY be successful, much less that it'd be how it's been. I always imagined it'd just be a little universe that I'd eventually end up running myself.
I'm glad that didn't turn out to be true.
But yeah, solo leagues are the death of me.

Can we have all 8 teams in the playoffs? Because seriously, that'd be hilarious and awesome.

Ok. Don't know how others feel, but I think playing this in a really "small town ball" style would be fun. Maybe limit the maximum size of a member city to 100,000 -- or perhaps even 50,000 -- people. No place that currently has a real-world MLB or MiLB team. Keep salaries low. Perhaps set the "superstar" salary to, oh, $1,000,000?
Or we could go to the other extreme and do something bizarre like making it world-spanning with Grade A global cities and 9-figure budgets. Either way could be fun, but if it's going to be a silly day-league, I think something like that would be conducive to not-taking-it-seriously.

I like the small town league idea is cool with very little money involved and low contracts with a cap set pretty low.

It does look like you can have all 8 teams in a custom playoff.

Yup. I knew it was possible. Just wanted to know if people were cool with it. ;) lol

Ah! Yeah, I think it's a potentially stupenderiffic idea.
Do you know what the difference between Position and Seeding is, for determining the bracket?

In a single table, it won't matter. It's the same for the purposes of an 8-team league with no divisions, etc.

Even better? ... Wonder what embedding it in an active thread will do.

I like the 8 team playoff. I also like the small towns, but the world's largest cities and a huge payroll might be fun, in an insane way. Maybe with restrictions on keeping % of team your nationality or something.

Maybe we try this for a while and then swap?

I'm in.
I would like to honor the Cape (Wooden Bat Summer Amateur) League by locating my team in Sandwich, MA.

I was going to locate them in Provincetown but I didn't want anyone getting the wrong idea (not that there's anything wrong with that).

You guys are straight nuts, lol.
Interesting idea, but I think I will just be an interested spectator. I spend enough time agonizing over my Atlanta roster. :)
