two popped up today... accounts registered months ago (making my quick insta-ban tool irrelevant) and they seemed to take words from an existing thread and rephrase them into a semi-coherent new post, then occasionally adding in a link to some dumb shit

i mean, i guess i get it - there's money in having links anywhere point to a site, so that's what these accomplish, but... i just wish this degree of ingenuity and effort could be focused on something that had a purpose

(he notes with irony this frustration is being vented on a site dedicated to the minutia of fiddling with tiny invisible football men in a defunct game franchise)

Since my wife is newly tenured, we've had a few years in the world of publish or perish.

There is no doubt in my mind that the vast majority of "academic" journals these days are a sophisticated form of exactly this type of bot.

Defunct, huh? Dead, buried, gone. Sounds like a great word for a proverbial tombstone.
