Couple brutal matchups here. She Blinded Me With Science against Der Kommisar and Judy in Disguise against Venus in particular, for me. Though I think being in a 60's cover band and playing Venus live might be making me a tad biased in that matchup.

yeah, that Science/Kommisar matchup is a brutal first round draw.

I hated the Bananarama version of Venus, but I love the Shocking Blue version...it's a hard match up for me as well...
and of course the other one is just brutal for any fan of OHWs

Mott the Hoople with a tough draw as well, 'All the Young Dudes" is undervalued in the seedings IMO

Thoughts:
Dexy vs Mott - Mott with the tough draw, as mentioned several times...10 votes is a nice showing under the circumstance
Godley & Creme vs The Soul Survivors - Felt is was close to a pick'em...didn't have any idea which way it would go.
Rob Base & DJ EZ Rock vs The Casinos - Maybe the easiest prediction of the grouping...
Love & Rockets vs Chris Norman and Suzi Quatro - Another one that I had no idea how it would play out...and interestingly the voting totals were nearly identical.
Thomas Dolby vs After the Fire - numerous people noted the poor draw for Der Kommissar. After looking into it, I think After the Fire would have been a heavy favorite over 11 of the 15 other songs in this group, with 2 they wouldn't beat, and 2 that would be too close to call.
Des'ree vs The Monotones - the oldie with the "upset"...didn't expect that, but it won big...so while Book of Love is a classic there are probably a bunch of people dislike the Des'ree tune too
Deee-Lite vs Arden - The other pairing that arguably might have been easier to predict than the It Take Two win.
John Fred vs Shocking Blue - - I expected this final result to be much closer.

very sad to miss this one as I'd love to listen to these again.
I used to love Come on Eileen...So infectious. Unique. And the best part was the bridge where they start slow and build up to the final chorus. An MTV staple...you can't think of this song without smelling the guy's armpits.
But now I can't stand listening to this song anymore...
All the Young Dudes is a classic. Written by David Bowie even and you could picture Bowie singing it. I think he did have a version somewhere. Classic guitar rock arena rock sound. I'd probaqbly go MOtt just because I"m tired of Dexy even though Eileen is the stronger song.
No contest! Godley and Creme are KINGS of Wuss ROck. There I said it. THey were HALF of the Wuss ROck group 10cc (I'm Not In Love) and splintered off to do a morphing video :) This song was great. Always loved it. VERY strong vocals and melody.
It Takes Two is that type of 90s hip hop song that I can actually enjoy...one that has MELODY and one that uses rock drumming. Gimme those two things and you've got something I will like.
Stumblin In is boring. THey may as well have put one of her Happy Days songs up instead. Love and ROckets So Alive was a Motherfluffing 90s rock staple. I would scream the lyrics in the car whenever it came on. I'd so for every note whether I could hit em or not. SUch a good song
Two of my favorites of the 80s really. Dolby is a favorite of mine. I can actually name like 30 Dolby songs without looking. Yes I'm a fan. After the FIre did the american version of falco's song Der Kommisar. Falco later did Rock me Amadeus which is probably why he won't be a one hit wonder.
I loved this video. Not sure why. The german version of this song was really really great. But I like how the guy sung uh oh owwwwwwww
A sad matchup
Book of Love....that's some good shit right there. Nuff said
DeeeLite's Groove is one of the best songs of the 90s hands down
Screw every other 90s song in this competition
The last pairing barely matters. They are both good songs. The second one only known because Bananarama became famous copying it. Judy in Disguise I know solely because of one of those KTEL commercials.
