The news is a little old now, but in case anyone hasn't seen it - the 'story' mode will contain some form of college basketball. Yeah, it's not the return of the CH 2K title, but hey, it's a start. ;)

I'm not overly enthusiastic about the whole scripted story mode in general, but this is enough to get my to play through it at least once.

I'd love to see them make the All Star game in a different arena each year.

If they put College Hoops into the game, that would be a great thing.

I imagine it will just be an NCAA Final game or maybe the Final Four... Still, going to be awesome to see college jerseys and hopefully arenas, even if it's just a taster...

I'm hoping to be able to actually scout prospects in MyGM, maybe even play the game as the prospect's team. If it's just story mode, though, I agree, probably just the tourney or the Final Four.

Groundhog

*dreaming* If they made deals with the individual teams or conferences, scrapped any NCAA references, and made no attempt to have players that bore any relation to real players, it could probably be done. Alas, I just don't think there's enough $$$ in it... */dreaming*

Well I guess there are 10 teams licensed.

I'm most looking forward to "Improved Player Movement" - defensive movement could use work, I can't stay in front of anyone.

Also My League Online. Woohoo. Let's get some leagues together!

Thought it was just me. My player always reacts a second too late allowing the other player to get to the basket. At the end of the day, I just try to outscore the other team and hope my other defensive players can pick up my slack.

Wow... so many great features in there. Taking a bit to digest it all. Can't wait for this game to come out.

A few of my early favorites:

- The revamped team building logic sounds amazing.

- Much more control over progression/regression.

- The new salary cap options.

- The team relocation/rebranding seems like it has had a lot of thought put into it.

- The new simcast modes.

Where's my wallet? I was on the fence about preordering, but the promise of the career modes is worth the investment.

Now, if they would only make the all star game move to a different city every year...(it doesn't move now, does it?)

Is this a 15 year career mode? Or at least 30 years?

Being able to jump in and out of sim mode into the game is absolutely epic. No more playing the last quarter of blowouts just because or simming games into the fourth and jumping in if its close because I don't have time or patience for a full game. Plus the new sim mode with coach control and no loading time...

Now if they can just fix progression and fine tune some of the logic in the GM mode, I can't think of many ways they could make this better

Groundhog
08-20-2015, 01:23 AM
I believe it's unlimited years - or at least a lot? To be honest I'm not sure, but I've definitely gone more than 15 years in previous years.

I think I'm going to take over the Kings and relocate them to Seattle.

Yeah, progression is really the one big thing left for me - guys just don't drop quickly enough as they age. That would be my only real complaint at this point...

Team's trying to rebuild is something I've wanted forever in a text sim, and now we get in a graphical game first.

The build a jersey/arena stuff has a lot of nice tweaks. Not only will there be some great user created logos I imagine, I did see in a video that you can use old logos. So, you can bring back the Sonics for sure.

NBA 2K16 adding another tweak that I've wanted in all my sims for a million years now - a '99 ovr' rating will no longer mean best in the league, but best of all time.

Yep and everyone will be graded against that scale in each individual skill. Interesting approach.

Some more info from a podcast down about the MyLeague/My GM modes:

•Per 100 poss stats are in
•For the normalize minutes option, you can normalize all stats if you don't play on 12 minute quarters
•Player and team hot streaks are mentioned in the Ticker
•In MyLeague Online, you can invite players into you league whenever you want
•You can randomize owner personalities in MyGM.
•Players and staff can give feedback on their decisions in MyGM (if they don't want to sign with you, they'll let you know why)
•VC and in-game money (I'll call it 'IGM') are separate things. IGM is accumulated through completing owner goals and can be used on things like your arena and relocation. When you buy the team, a part of the profits accrued in game is put towards your IGM.
•Owners can change goals (long term and short term) based on team situation (he will evaluate constantly during the season). As well, players can change ambitions.
•You can now override player retirements in MyLeague! In MyGM, you can convince them to not retire (example: Convincing Duncan to stay another year because you feel the roster has got a shot at a ring. Or even promising a staff possition the next year)
•Improved FA logic (won't have great players sitting in FA)
•Player turned coaches go by a system called the HOF rating. Things like win totals and rings are taken into account (hopefully this includes role players like Avery Johnson and Steve Kerr)
•Option to edit staff! this is huge! (offensive, defensive, training, and scouting attributes can be edited!)
•Can also edit team style in edit staff option (can choose what types of players will be targeted)
•When relocating, you don't need to keep the name of the city or team
•Owners that disapprove or are unsure of your relocation can be questioned
•Draft logic was looked at. Busts and steals have been included without crazy bad logic (assuming this means guys that are ranked low in the mock drafts won't be selected top 5 and vice versa)
•Draft prospects automation has been reworked. Beds (among others) helped out in ensuring that prospects were rated appropriately according to the new scale
•League talent balancing while simming many years was touched on (better ratio of talent among prospects)
•Accessory logic has been added to draft prospects!! (Higher probability for dual knee sleeves, and matching home/away colors etc. They've also used accessory data from the NBA to reflect on the draft classes. Unfortunately, headbands weren't confirmed or denied)
•Audio team has been working very hard

Edit to add: The salary cap will rise to next year's cap as well. Should be an interesting 1st offseason especially.

It's funny, every year Madden is like check out all these improvements and I'm like, those sound great, I'm excited. And every year I'm like, meh, it's pretty much the same and they just changed the graphics.

Every year NBA 2K is like, we've done these subtle things to improve the experience and I'm like, ok, I might wait on the game, then I pick it up and all the changes are noticeable and impactful and I find myself wishing that Madden could follow suit. Reading the list of improvements it sounds like it's going to be another solid improvement from 2K.

The stuff about AI isolation and attack is huge, in 2k15 I'd much rather play against Melo or Kobe than a decent three point shooter because stars just don't attack or try to score off the dribble hardly ever. I'd lose count of the times a star would be the third or fourth scorer on their team and someone like Jose Calderon would end up taking 20 shots.

•You can randomize owner personalities in MyGM.

This is nice. I hated being limited choosing a team in MyGM because the owner sucked. The way I wanted to play (take over a bad team and improve), felt like I was really limited to one or two teams.

•Owners can change goals (long term and short term) based on team situation (he will evaluate constantly during the season). As well, players can change ambitions.

If this means they also have more realistic goals, huge addition. Both my Bucks and Magic games the owner told me I had to be first in the conference in my second year after seasons with losing records. Uh, ok?

•Improved FA logic (won't have great players sitting in FA)

Cool

•Draft logic was looked at. Busts and steals have been included without crazy bad logic (assuming this means guys that are ranked low in the mock drafts won't be selected top 5 and vice versa)

Very cool

•Draft prospects automation has been reworked. Beds (among others) helped out in ensuring that prospects were rated appropriately according to the new scale
•League talent balancing while simming many years was touched on (better ratio of talent among prospects)

More huge changes if done right.

myGM is already my favorite mode of any sports game ever. Really hoping they can pull these things off, as well as nerfing the progression we discussed earlier in the thread.

Regretting the digital download. After downloading the game completely around 130 am, it started copying game data? It's now 9 am and I have 12.4 of 39.9 GB copied, with 19 hours left. Until then, I can only play the demo/intro game. What was the point of pre-ordering if it's going to take over 24 hours to play?

Quick question:

So, in the old NBA 2K games (not sure which one, the one with Jordan on the cover, like 2K12? 2K11?) you could play the Association mode and have multiple people play at the same time.

With NBA 2K15 that wasn't possible. Association mode was single player only, so even if two people wanted to play on the same team or against each other in that mode, it wouldn't work.

Is NBA 2K16 any different?

I am not sure. The game is downloaded. It's the 'application data' that is 'copying game files' that is taking forever.

Not having the exact same issue as you are, but my download is starting and stopping around 80% and the disk utilization is really high, suspect it's something to do with the size of the game and the number of people trying to get it today. Mildly annoying, just hoping it finishes before this evening when I'll actually have time to play

The live simcast with the option to jump in and out of the game is pretty much the best fucking thing in a video game ever. I might not be exaggerating, I'd have to think long and hard about it.

Don't like the myCareer as directed by Spike Lee. Usually I'll get some mileage out of it but this year it feels way too canned. Although the authentic college teams are a nice touch.

I got a chance to play a full game last night with the Lakers against the Rockets.

Harden gave me fits before fouling out early in the 4th...CPU never subbed him after getting his 4th foul early in the 3rd and 5th foul mid 3rd.

At one point early in the 3rd I trailed by 21 but Kobe went off and got us within 12 to start the 4th. When Harden fouled out we kept biting into the lead and finally D Russell hit a 3 at the buzzer to send it to OT. He then hit a floater at the buzzer in OT to win it 116-114.

It seemed like the CPU stepped out of bounce a lot and three wreck less alley oops that resulted in a lot of turnovers...21 total for them.

Kobe had 44, Russell had 38 with 8 boards and 8 assists, Harden had 31 and Howard had 24 with 22 boards

Still a fun experience...but my age is catching up with me...need to figure out how to do coach mode

Simcast has been in for a while, but it was text only and you could only jump into the game once (and had to wait for the game to load and then couldn't jump out again)

This year has a 2d simcast live engine and you can jump in and out of the game with no loading time. It's incredible. It's my favorite mode in a sport game ever. You could coach in 2d the entire time if you wanted, the 2d mode can go 1,2,3 and 6x speed so could get through a season in a reasonable time

Love the 2D simcast mode.

It's similar to the Football Manager style presentation.

For the life of me, though, I couldn't figure out how to turn off the music during this mode! I set the audio to TV broadcast, but it's still playing the music. :(

Game looks amazing, but I am terrible at video games so I can't buy it unless simcast is a reasonable replacement for coach mode.

So a couple of questions for you gents if you don't mind:

Can you get the pregame, halftime and post game shows if you play simcast? Will there be highlights?

What kind of strategies are available besides substitution for simcast?

Would love to think that this could be a doable coach mode.

There is a quick sim mode that has icons like a football manager type game. There is also a trick to get cpu vs cpu coach mode on pc version, at least it worked in nba2k15. I am at a conference and have not tried it in the new version yet.

Yeah that would be a deal breaker for me. Oh well. Most of these sports games now a days are arcade games anyways.

Yeah that would be a deal breaker for me. Oh well. Most of these sports games now a days are arcade games anyways.

Unless I'm misunderstanding what you guys are looking for, there is definitely a 'quick-sim' option. No fuss, just advance the date on the calendar 1+ days.

However, in addition to that, there is the simcast and simcast live options that have been talked about - with ability to jump-in and out of the actual game.

I'm really sucking so far - the game 'feels' very different from the last couple of years, and I'm getting used to it slowly. I really suck running off screens in particular - need to be a lot more accurate in running off the screener - and that combined with my inability to get open with iso moves is meaning that I'm missing a lot of contested jumpers in most my games.

It's the new foot-planting system IMO - it looks great, but it's made the controls feel less responsive.

My main issues are that the AI pick-n-rolls are too effective - the guard loses his man nearly every time and gets an open lane to the basket if I don't control the post defender myself. My pick-n-rolls are effective only for the screener as 9/10 my defender gets through the screen and cuts me off, meaning I have an easy assist 8 times out of 10 to the roll man... I had 18 assists in a game last night, with probably 15 of them off that play.

Also my AI-controlled weakside defender down low is horrible, and I don't know how many possessions I have a game where I hold the other team until 2 or 3 seconds left on the shotclock, only for whoever is downlow to just make a simple cut into the middle of the key for a wide open shot.

This is with the default 'simulation' sliders. I think defensive awareness needs to go up, and mid-range shots need to go down - they are money for just about everyone if open.

Yeah, I've played about 5 games and I have to say the on court game is pretty garbage out of the box - offensively it's just a mess of players running into each other and sticking, hit the guy who is open for a mid range jumper or wide open in the paint. I can't get any separation man on man using ISO or the screen game but it doesn't really matter, just run around until you get some separation and jack a mid range shot. Defensively, the AI seems to have gone a long way backwards but it could also be defenders just getting caught up in traffic leading to somebody being open.

I'll wait for a killer set of sliders or a patch set to be released, but I'm a little concerned that the new gameplay might not be that fixable - it seems to be the core physics that aren't as good or don't lend themselves to as fun and realistic gameplay. I can't think of the last NBA 2k game that wasn't playable and fun out of the box. Quite disappointing.

Off the court, awesome game made even better. Love the additions and changes to myGM. While I'm waiting for the gameplay to improve or researching sliders might amuse myself for a few hours with the team relocation stuff.

I maybe in the minority, but I am definitely liking the gameplay.

I agree that the Simulation sliders are funky this year. But on defaults, the game already plays really well. The AI defense really adjusts to what you do on offense, so you just can't spam moves over and over again. You will have to rely on ball movement and reading the defense to get an uncontested basket.

The new foot planting physics takes getting used to, but it also gives a lot of focus on the iso moves and getting your opponent to lean in the correct direction to blow by them.

I'm still playing it, but I find the AI defense more infuriating each game. Last night I played a close game, Celtics (me) vs the Cavs and lost the game by 1 because Kevin Love got an open dunk in the dying seconds. I watched the replay of the last shot, and Love was outside the 3pt line, and my AI-controlled defender (Sullinger) was for some reason fronting him behind the arc - so basically giving him a wide open lane to the basket.

Putting this one on the shelf for a while. As well as not fixing any of the gameplay in any appreciable way the PC update waiting for me this evening seems to have completely broken play calling - my guy gets to the point on the floor, the icon changes color but the rest of the play doesn't fire and the rest of my players stand around like idiots.

I can take a game I suck at and try to improve, but this just feels like such a massive step from last year it's just frustrating me.

At least the previous years "you are an undrafted FA who had to fight your way into the league" made logical sense. This year was just nonsensical.

Spike Lee killed the MyCareer mode. You have no control over anything other than selecting the college you go to for 1 year. You can't stay in college, you can't control any of the storyline or backstory, you don't even have a choice of voices like last year, you can't change nicknames and the freqing nickname sticks with you for the whole career. They should have made the Spike Lee thing a separate mode.

I enjoy the Spike Lee part of MyCareer, if I'm viewing it as a playable movie. As a start to MyCareer, it's way to restricting. They could've at least let Spike's parts come in organically like they did last years playable movie. Let the cut scenes be triggered by events.

What I think they should do why MyCareer is take the high school and college part and allow that to determine your ratings as you go into the pros. I don't understand why 2K feels they have to force you to go a certain way in MyCareer. Make it truly mine and allow me to determine how my career unfolds. I should be able to struggle and not get drafted or play very well and truly challenge for #1.

I simmed through my first season of MyGM with the 76ers and of course I tanked the season with the plan to get another high draft pick and go hard in 16's FA class. Anyway, my interest level was low throughout the season but as the season ended and the fans realized we had a great chance at the 1st pick, our fan's interest went way up.

I can't switch off of 2K15 yet. I'm running the Bulls with the most dominant center I have ever had in the game. He's 7'3, 340 pounds, and made Shaq look small. He's rated as an A+ inside defender and rebounder, is more athletic than most PFs, and just increased his perimeter D to an A.

Along with him, I have an SG that's been an excellent all around player to give me an inside/outside attack, a PF that's 7'0 and an excellent defender and rebounder, and solid a PG and SF to round out the starting 5. Behind them, there are 5 players that rotate in and we become Kentucky from last year, doing hockey line substitutions.

Yes, it's unrealistic, and yes, we go 77-5 and win the championship. The fun part is being able to trade away pieces to have replacements for overpriced players or players that I don't fit the way I play. Need an SF that can shoot from the outside better or a better playmaker at PG? Trade my starting PG or SF or one of my bench players for a player that fits in better. The players that I trade away usually go on to play very well. They just don't fit the way I play or I don't do as well controlling them for whatever reason.

Hopefully, 2K16 will do better at protecting picks and planning out a couple of years. Or, maybe I need to make some house rules and not make trades. Or only make the trades that the computer offers with no adjustments. It's too easy to dangle my 1st round pick that's usually #30 for players or picks. I've set up my roster of HOF players this weekend, so I'll get a myGM session going with it possibly tonight.

I found some sliders that I'm happier with - they were someone else's from 2K Share, that had had around 28 updates made to them. I bumped the AI's midrange and 3pt shooting down a few notches still because open shots from nearly everyone were still money.

I quick-simmed through 2 seasons of MyGM (which with all the press conferences/meeting actions is not so quick) with the Sixers, and I've got the 9th ranked roster in the league. Traded Noel and Embiid (forgot to enable real-life injuries at the start of the game), and I'm now rolling out Okafor (now at 87 OVR)-Batum-McDaniels(77 OVR SF, #2 pick in 2016 draft)-Murkovic(79 OVR SG, #1 pick in 2017 draft, traded #3 and #10 for him)-Exum.

One thing I've noticed through a few aborted MyGM games is that each season the same couple of guys become easily available, and one of them is Drummond. It's super easy to get your hands on him - I've banned myself from trading for him.

I've noticed during my aborted mygm games that Derrick Favors is always available for pennies on the dollar - it seems that if the AI has more than two or three decent big men it's perfectly willing to give away the one on the biggest contract even though it's completely ludicrous. Not a massive deal but I do have to put in a house rule to not pick him up.

Groundhog: Is it still pretty easy to assemble a roster of 80+ players? If so, I will have to play with house rules of some type.

In general I'd say trading is much harder, and not just because there's less guys rated in the 80s. My first attempt was a MyLeague with Sacramento, with the goal of moving Cousins for Okafor or DeAngelo Russell. Not only could I not get either of those guys for Cousins, but no team in the league was really willing to give me anyone of substance for what I'd consider a franchise player.

Teams have a few guys who they are looking to move for whatever reason - Isaiah Thomas from Boston, Drummond from Detroit - who get offered consistently if you use trade finder, so in that respect it can be easier to land certain guys. If you want to build a trade manually, I've had to give away more than I've got back in return.

Sixers are easy in that you have a lot of future 1st round picks to play with 'out of the box', as well as Noel/Embiid. I was able to move Embiid for Exum which, without default injuries, probably is advantage to Utah, and I moved Noel to trade up in the draft and draft my SF.

As with last year, draft classes look pretty good to me - I've had one stronger draft with a handful of guys in the high 70s, and then a draft where we were down to 68 ranked guys before the top 10 was done.

I found FA tougher and actually lost out on some guys I targeted, and the game definitely does a better job of snatching up the available talent. I think the rating drops have helped here too - there were no guys ranked over 72 available post-FA in either of the two seasons I've simulated.

Yup, Favors is the other solid big that is very easy to acquire.

I'll check tonight re: the sliders, I'm on PC so I don't know if it's cross platform depending on what you're playing on. They've made screens workable for me - ie. the defender actually gets caught up in the screen, and reduced the amount of backdoor cuts the AI runs for easy makes. I still see a lot of bad plays though - my guys not picking up players, backing off 3pt shooters, etc. - and I'm wondering if this is by design, to penalize players with poor defensive ratings. It creates too many easy scoring opportunities IMO.

Anyone tossing up between console or PC, I'd say go console. Random crashes during games - usually right before an overlay would be displayed on FTs or timeouts - and less frequently from the main menu. I'd say once every 4 or 5 games.

One crash that works every time is to open a player card from the draft review screen, and use the left or right trigger to navigate to the next player. Boom, draft gone.

My first draft class (I had the #1 pick) had a 75 rated SG as the top player and a 75 PF as the #2 player. After that, the talent dropped quickly. Very limited sample size but I think MyGM has a better variability of talent for draft pools. Also, I tried very hard to trade away picks for a likely high pick next year, and it seems harder to do. I also tried to trade Noel and got very underwhelming offers... but I could have had Drummond easily. I decided not to do it because I already have 2 quality big guys I want to develop - I had no idea he is quickly traded in every franchise. FWIW, he was unhappy in Detroit and was demanding to be traded...

I haven't seen patch notes for the NBA 2K16 pc path. It was only about 80 megs and the one thing I noticed immediately was that MyTeam (which I only ever select accidentally) no longer immediately crashes to desktop. In game and random navigation crashes are heavily reduced (I had a CTD every 2 games, give or take), but I still see them both less frequently.

Most annoying issue I have right now is that during the game I have auto playcalling enabled with play art, and if the guy handling the ball is not the same player who starts the play, there is no play art at all... If I manually pass it to the guy who starts the play (which is usually easy as he's beyond the arc near the top), then it functions normally, but the former ballhandler jogs to his starting spot verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry slowwwwwwwwwwwwly, so there's only 10 or 11 seconds left on the shotclock. This doesn't happen from the opening tip, but seems to surface in the second half.

Just as annoying, the targeted passing also disappears at the same time and doesn't display the icons above the players heads, so you don't know if you have it enabled or not.

How's everyone doing with the game so far?

I definitely haven't been as dominate with this version in myGM. While I have been able to rebuild the Bulls into a team of my liking centered around a young MJ and young Kobe, we have only the 5th best roster in the league and last night, we were trounced by the #1 Celtics who have Bird, McHale, Russell. What's even more impressive is that they've been able to win the title, then pick in the lottery each year (I'm in year 3 right now). I'm extremely impressed by their ability to field a great team and make moves so that they can potentially sustain their talent as players age and/or become too expensive.

On the gameplay side, I'm still getting the feel of the game. It's not as easy to get open looks, but I'm learning how. I also noticed that as the action picks up, it gets harder to time my release. Feels like I release the same time I normally would, but looking at the gauge afterwards, I'm usually way off. Not sure if that's because the game isn't registering the release correctly or if I suck right now. I think it's the latter.

I have not dug into myCareer much. It just isn't fun for me right now. Maybe I'm played out from 2K15 and this will be a majorly myGM release for me.

Anyone else having fun with the game?

Yeah, I still feel like this version has more holes than the last few (defenders still seem to just allow mindblowingly easy passes into the lane and my defenders go walkabout leading to uncontested layups or dunks far more often than I'd like) but myGM is really solid, the new simcast mode rocks and I'm having fun with it now.

I am really enjoying MyGM although I've slowed down my progress as I've been playing a lot of other games too (mainly Witcher 2 so I can finish that and start Witcher 3.) I find building a top team much tougher this version, although the Sixers have a lot of nice young pieces to build around. Right now, I am doing well with them with a young SG that was the #1 pick in the draft and Okafor as the center piece. I also added a few veterans to mentor them including Brandon Jennings and Joe Johnson.

As far as MyCareer, I'm saving up VC from MyGM to build up MyCareer player. If I'm supposed to be a phenom, I don't want to be such a lowly rated player.

DOLA - as for what you mentioned about the release, I think they made it way more situation and player specific this year - e.g. its going to be almost impossible to time it remotely right jacking up a contested three with a questionable shooter and even good shooters will have issues if it's not a good shot. It undoubtedly makes it harder but I think I like it - it has been far too easy to take a catch and shoot three guy and just dominate in previous years

bhlloy: If that's by design, and I do remember talks about 2K making that change, then I'm all for it. If it's a flaw in the presentation due to lag or whatever, then I hope it's corrected.

Thinking about it more, one thing I like about myCareer is practice. It's a nice addition with 2 mandatory drills, plus the option to practice various movements.

One thing I wish they utilized more in myGM is the ability to play college games. It would be nice to play a college game to control the player you're scouting. Also wish there was a way to practice plays in myGM to get a better feel for your team.

OMG - it works in MyLeague - REAL coach mode!

1. PLAY game with you on a controller
2. pre tip off switch to SimCast LIVE
3. wait for first basket
4. just after team inbounds the ball QUIT and SAVE to MyGM or MyLeague
5. go back into game and BINGO - Coach Mode

When you go back into the game it thinks you are still PLAYING but instead of "in" SimCast Live you are in the main game. IT'S A MIRACLE (they will probably "FIX" this bug).

A few things you will need to do is fix the sound options and also make sure you go into Coachs Settings and change things to manual. Also camera angels will be changed

PC Patch is out. I'm hoping it fixes the pesky play icons.

Hi guys,
The first PC patch has been released for NBA 2K16. Here are the list of changes:

- Added support for 21:9 UltraWide monitors, multiple monitor displays, and other non-16:9 aspect ratios.

- Fixed an issue where frame rate could stutter (even on higher end graphics cards) in either or both of gameplay and MyPARK.

- Fixed a bug where playcalling icons were not appearing for some users.

- Resolved a driver crash on below min spec DirectX 10.0 cards, such as the NVidia 9800 GT.

- Optimized crowd rendering, resulting in slightly improved performance on many configurations.

- Fixed ‘black rectangle’ artifact.

- Removed super sample configuration option due to driver instability.

Note: We are currently investigating reports of commentary dropping out during gameplay. We will look to address this in our next patch. Thanks!

Just played probably my best game of 2k16, losing to the Sixers in my Bulls franchise 131-130 on a missed last second shot. I'm getting a better feel for the game, but the patch has helped smooth out the action a bit.

Also, I turned off the shot meter and it has changed the game tremendously. Instead of worrying about where on the meter I'm releasing, I'm trying to learn the players' form and release at the right time. Makes it a little harder, but more enjoyable as well.

Picked this up for the first time in years, not surprising that i am struggling. However, what irks me is that some of the problems from 3 or 4 years ago are still the same from what i can see ... Mainly:

- i am annoyed that it still seems impossible to create (or see in the cpu) a proper drive-and-kick offense ending in open looks. It does not help that i end up accidentily triggering the shooting motion all the time, but even aside from that the spacing seems really, really poor ...

- picks are terribly uneffective on both sides, which further kills any proper nba-style-offense

- the cpu still does not make use of post ups at all

Any advice on how to remedy those things via sliders ?

Using the default sim sliders I've actually seen a pretty wide variety of outcomes for pick and rolls.

Defense as a whole seems much improved. In my first season I had Demare Carroll and he could pretty much lock down most wing scorers. The next season I wound up with a high pick and drafted an offensive oriented wing, so I dealt Carroll and man the number of times the guy gets burnt on defense and the chaos it causes in help rotations is insane, but really cool to see.

I've found on pick and rolls it really matters who you get involved in the pick and roll and who the weak side help defended is. I've had all the outcomes, dunks for the screener, blow by drives, pulling in the help defender and hitting a guy for a corner three, turnovers, getting strung out to the sideline, getting iced from going into the middle of the floor. It's really cool to see so many different outcomes, it actually feels like basketball to me.

Yeah, i am slowly getting there. Figured out (or remembered) to lay off the sprint button a little more, get into the paint a bit deeper and in general being more decicive when making plays. Was looking for the clean and wide open shot too much. Also have gotten better now at moving the ball to "the next guy" after a quick dribble.
One thing that i have a hard time figuring out is passing out of the drive, very hard to get it to the open guy in the rush of the action. Often i pass to a covered guy close buy rather than the guy open. Also passing with the screener. S

As to getting burned on defense: My first 5 games were against the Lakers, 76ers and 3 summer league games. Now (after the previous post) i played a few better offensive teams and they looked much more nba-like, the Suns for example absolutely shredded me with their ball movement and quick drives by Bledsoe/Knight and also Mayo. Rubioo and Wiggins did ok, but LaVine and especially the young rookie pg i drafted, not so much.

Also, does the cpu ever double team in the post ? So far haven´t encountered it even when Towns was guarded by a guard.

rjolley
11-05-2015, 03:48 PM
I don't recall seeing a straight double of the post, but I have seen the wing drop down and "dig" for the basketball when the post puts it on the floor. The good defenders also will recover to their man if the ball is kicked out.

It is possible to get in a drive and dish type of offense, but not every time down the floor. And I've noticed spacing to be good in the game. There is room to drive to the basket, to throw the ball into the post from the top when the wing is guarded, and to have the wing cut off the post when the ball is thrown in.

Be sure to check out Da_Czar's youtube videos on the game. That may help you get your bearings on offense.

The game feels better, though it's frustrating. I cannot seem to stop the CPU from draining 3's all day.

Not using turbo helps on screens a great deal (it's nearly impossible with it held down), but my two major issues are that the ball handler gets 'stuck' on the screener a lot, both for me and the CPU, and when I do come off the screen I can hit the roll man for an easy basket 8 times out of 10, regardless of who he is.

With Okafor I can routinely drop 36-40 points from the low post without fear of a double team. I have never seen a double team.

Spacing in my experience is poor. Guys off the ball inexplicably drift inside the three point line when I drive and look for the dish. This has been an issue for the game the last 3-4 years.

It's a fun game and I'm still playing it time-to-time, it just feels like some fundamental stuff has fallen off this year.

Playing the Warriors (still essentially the same group in 2016) was pretty fun. Lost by 15 and did not even feel bad. I took away some things (and kept Curry in check), but they just had too many weapons. Draymond Green not only stepped outside but also used hard close outs for drives into the paint. Slick passing all around, Bogut crashing the boards. And their defense was a pest throughout, everything was tough to come by.

I don´t think i recall having an opponent play so slick against me in earlier iterations.

Another small gripe: Players too often stand half a foot inside the arc (especially in the corner) or 3 foot beyond when receiving the ball from a driving player.

On OS someone found a legitimate and easy fix for double teams !!! Apparently it is a pretty glaring bug in the Interface, not within the game.

1a) If you are in my league controlling all 30 teams you can simply adjust every teams game plan against your team.
1b) If not, you have to switch sides in game to the other team.
2) Go to defensive settings and on the "All Players" page (the default one) you can set double teams from "manual" to "auto". The option is simply missing from the individual player assignments which means the cpu double teams are set to "manual" ... If you have done that and check the individual players, they are now set to "auto" :)

First game in and i immediately saw all the various double teams in action :)

Also, Freelance offense is fun. The selection process is cumbersome though. Having Towns as starting PF and Bjelica as his backup i use "3out-2in motion" to start and then switch to "4out-1in". Wish they would simply let you hotkey 4 options rather than having to scroll through the whole list.

When did coaching tendencies get taken out ? (like fastbreak, pace, help defense frequency)

Right now, I'm on the frustrated side with the game. It feels impossible to stop the CPU. It feels like every team that I play, no matter how their players are rated, become offensive machines when we play, making every open shot and most contested ones. Meanwhile, my guys will make shots for awhile, then go on a cold streak, usually when we get close or take a small lead. It might just be the way I'm playing, but it's frustrating nonetheless.

Also, as part of the poor defense, the CPU regularly scores 130+. If the game is simmed, they struggle to break 100.

At this point, I may go back to 2K15 until the next patch hits. I don't mind losing often, but I hate the feeling that once I get down by 4, the game is basically lost because I can't string together stops to get back into the game.

Are you using the defensive settings ? Those make a huge difference for me. Had those same struggles, but that combined with switching to the 2k camera and also making a conscious effort to anticipate rotations at the rim helped me a great deal. Also, i learned to foul the living shit out of poor FT shooters late in the game. But yeah, defense is definitely a struggle.

What team are you running out, btw ?

rjolley

Running with the Bulls, but I sim quite a bit of the season, so I'm 7 or 8 seasons in. Towns, Russell, and the rest of the rookies from today are the old vets now and the new crop of stars are coming in.

I'll try some more with the defensive settings. I've worked with them some based on a forum post on the OS forums...need to do more, I guess.

I sag off him and dare him to shoot long jumpers. Otherwise, he torches me with his penetration although I'm hoping to draft a young defensive PG who can slow him down better.

I don't think I've ever remotely defended him in any version of the game. Absolutely the most kryptonite player I've ever faced.

The only answer I've come up with for that question is either "hope he's injured & misses the game" or "maybe a sniper ... "

On Pick and Roll : Have your big set to "soft hedge", manually go under the screen and keep an eye on you next line of defense (the PF or SF/SG on that side) so that you can quickly switch there if he blows by you. Alternatively i have gotten more comfortable actually controlling the big for a moment rather than the guard in that instance, then switch to the "next guy" towards my own basket.

In general i am often ok with a guy like Rose (or just now Westbrook) getting his points, honestly try to set it up so that you encourage 1:1 play.

In terms of the defensive settings, i think you simply need to be consistent and know what you want. For example the "force direction" (baseline/middle) is a huge deal and if you have a guy set to "baseline", do that when you controll him manually as well. I personally like to force playmakers to the baseline and scorers (say Monta Ellis or Waiters) to the Middle.

Not that i am a world beater myself, more like i am getting by ;)

Question: Is it not possible anymore to call a quick postup for a specific player ? (f.e. Wiggins when guarded by a smaller guard)

The only way that I have found how to slow him down is to get the ball out of his hands, so I sag off him, force a double team and hope he passes to the open guy who I sprint too once he passes the ball to hopefully rush the shot. He will commit turnovers from time to time as well.

I don't think rose is over powered. He can't shoot so all you do is sag off him and force jumpers or him to ditch the ball. If he gets isolated it can be tricky if you have a poor mismatch but he's not super hard to defend like someone like lebron or curry

Theres a workaround if you have 2 controllers:

1)On the start game screen choose the opposing team with the 2nd controller and start the game
2) pause with your 2nd controller and make changes (to be save i would personally also "auto" everything in coach settings, too lazy too figure out if nescessary)
3) unpause game for a second
4) Then pause with your main controller (important to keep your main profile assigned to your team)
5) live-sim a few seconds, jump back in and voila: Opponent is controlled by the cpu again with the settings still applying :)

First big gameplay patch coming to ps4 and Xbox soon, likely by Thanksgiving. It will have many changes. A few of my favorites:

Lower rated shot blockers won't be nearly as effective.

Great shooters will hit a slightly higher percentage of contested shots when they create space.

Contested interior shots will go down less often.

Dozens of changes but these are a few of the highlights for me.

Patch out for PS4. With MS likely needing way longer, i am now pissed to miss out on it during the 1 weekend this month with substantial free time :(

Patch Notes in spoilers due to insane amount:

The NBA 2K16 Patch Update v3 has been approved by Sony and was just released on the PlayStation 4 in US. It is still with approval at Microsoft, hopeful that it’ll be released soon! The notes are below:

- Tuned the fair market value for players; teams should now be signing players for the appropriate amount of money.

- Improved negotiation options when negotiating with Staff.

- Generated prospects should now have their own unique jumpshot animations, free throw animations, and signature size-ups. Note that this particular change will only work on GMs/LEAGUEs started post-patch.

- Improved support of the NBA’s new tie-breaker rules for Playoff seeding.

- Teams are now less likely to trade away newly signed players, specifically those signed to longer contracts.

- The League Realignment option will now appear during every offseason in MyLEAGUE, even if a team was not relocated during the current season.

- Location/Team-specific crowd chants have now been disabled for relocated teams (as they no longer apply).

- Support has been added for users who wish to use position lock with multiple controllers.

- Added playcalling support during Scrimmages.

- If a user has relocated or rebranded a team with new uniforms, those uniforms will be used for Summer League/Scrimmage/Freestyle rather than the team’s current practice uniforms.

- Players with the ‘Force 6th Man’ option turned on will no longer complain about wanting to be starters (and their expectation are adjusted accordingly).’

- Fixed an issue where changing your uniform for a Summer League game would result in the game being played in a non-Summer League environment.

- Injuries are now turned off during the Hoops Summit game in the offseason.

- Fixed a hang that could occur when jumping out of a game and into SimCast.

- Taking an invalid gameplan into a SimCast game will no longer cause the game to hang.

- Fixed an issue where hot spot player tendencies would get overwritten after changing them and leaving the Edit Player menu.

- Corrected an issue when using Player Lock where users would sometimes control all players, rather than just their own.

- Copying/Pasting/Deleting of gameplans should now function properly in MyLEAGUE Online.

- Trade Notifications in MyLEAGUE Online will now properly be deleted after being handled by the user.

- (PS4) Sony’s invite system can now be used to invite users to your MyLEAGUE Online.

- Corrected an issue that would cause the game to stutter during a MyLEAGUE Online fantasy draft when the timer would run out with auto-draft enabled.

- The calendar now displays scheduled user games when one falls on the same day as the Player Re-signing deadline.

- Fixed an issue where ‘Standing Shot Close’ would sometimes be errantly displayed multiple times in the Training Camp Results overlay.

- Added ‘Normalize Played to Sim Minutes’ and ‘Normalize Played to Sim Stats’ to MyGM settings. Give them a try.

would in theory fix everything i could think off as being an issue :)

Highlights for me:

- Added support to view the uniform your opponent selects prior to starting a Play Now Online game.

- Tuned the fair market value for players; teams should now be signing players for the appropriate amount of money.

- Teams are now less likely to trade away newly signed players, specifically those signed to longer contracts.

- Improvements to help defense and rotation logic.

- Improved CPU logic for when to hustle back in transition defense. (ME: I sure hope that includes my CPU teammates ...)

- Improvements to double team logic.

- Reduced the frequency of unwanted contested shot fadeaways.

- Tweaks to errant pass frequency when passing out of double teams and contact shots.

- Fixed post-up double dribble and travel (pivot) issues.

- Tuned down excessive flopping being performed by AI players.

- Tuned body-up system to prevent sub-par defenders from being overly effective at stopping the ball handler.

- Pass receivers are now less likely to veer away from the basket to catch a pass.

2. pre tip off switch to SimCast LIVE
3. wait for first basket
4. just after team inbounds the ball QUIT and SAVE to MyGM or MyLeague
5. go back into game and BINGO - Coach Mode

THANK YOU - BloOd_SMeaR_

Have yet to get really into it, can´t get through the long games as it is now. Feels very sluggish every time i try unfortunately.

Yeah, the movement is really off for me too. I think the changes to player movement look a lot more realistic, but it's real sluggish to handle. Players stick to each other a ton, which for me makes screens a nightmare to use. I think my success rate is about 20% with most of the time the defender riding me away from the screener, which would be a foul in the NBA.

Still, 'watching' in coach mode, it looks beautiful.

Cool. Are you getting realistic results?

On Pro difficulty (I've read this is the most even difficulty for CPU/CPU) with default simulation sliders I'm getting pretty good results. Scorelines in the 90-110 range through 6 games.

Got me a Xbox one yesterday, along with this amazing game. Have played 2 games on pro (found some sliders on OS), and won both with ease. Can anyone recommend some challenging sim gameplay sliders for all star or superstar? Want to start a franchise tonight!

Main ones for me are that you need to drop mid-range and 3pt sliders down considerably, as well as the sliders for shots around the basket. On default sim open jumpers are money by anyone with an even half-decent shot rating, and if you have a half-decent post player it's too easy to just spin in the key and score in traffic.

Do that, and you will be forced to execute plays to get looks.

yeah, did the same. Also raise the fouls across the boards, slightly lowered defensive awareness and upped offensive awareness and offensive rebounding (for both cpu and user), other than that it´s IMO largely preference and trial and error.

Game has grown on me. Did a lot of simulating and playing the odd game, now in 2019 playoffs, having played about 20 reg season games and now all playoff games. Took over the Celtics with thei plethora of draft picks and put together a real fun team. Rated 8th/9th across the board. Lots of created players, though starting Rubio, Crowder and Motiejunas with Caspi and Dellavedova as bench options. Best player is an 85 rated created SG who is basically a more athletic Ginobili and averaged 25/6/6 during the reg season.

Anyway, some things have really impressed me, like the CPU actively cross-matching defensively and (apparently ?) changing strategy. My starting Center is not exactly a force offensively (averaged 11/10) but is 7´1 and athletic. I managed to score 25 and 22 in the first 2 games of my 2nd round matchup with the 76ers and in the 3rd game the cpu was much more agressive with him and doubled hard and i could not adjust. Not just on him, they were much more agressive across the board and totally surprised me and i dropped the game 101-120 and now am down 1-2 ...

Man, NBA 2K16 makes the NCAA Football fan in me jealous. Being able to record games would be such a cool feature to have in NCAA 2014. How cool would it be to watch human-vs-human national championship games?

Did anyone ever try to start an NBA 2K league for FOFC? I'm terrible at the game (in my few brief forays into it - NCAA 2014 still takes up most of my video game time), so I probably wouldn't be a good candidate to be in one. But hypothetically, an online league with classic teams and players would be awesome.

What system are you on ? Wouldn´t mind playing a few friendly games here and there (am on Xbox One).

I am really enyoing the game since the patches, have played a ton more than i anticipated over the last month or so. I also love all the Information available, like Shot Charts for players and teams, the Metrics, player comparison etc etc.
Have become more adept at running the Pick and Roll to either finish or pass out (one gripe i have that it is so hard to pull up from midrange. Playing with Rubio as the PG i´d expect for the CPU to give me that shot.), have created my own playbook fitting my roster with nice diversity for each player and have found a handfull of Freelance Offenses i like. A huge deal was changing it from "freelance action" to "motion cuts" in the 2nd column (below the actual style/playbook).

Love the Hawks set for Half Court and the 7 seconds one when i want to push the tempo.

Am in early 2020 now and No2 in the East. Am at 33-12 (play maybe 1/3 of the games now after largely simming the first couple years) while the Cavs are 38-7 (Lebron still going strong, Love and Kyrie now supported by Avery Bradley and a few nice role player, including a 75 rated 2nd year Center who is good)

Last season was 50-32 and a loss in the ECF.

My team is pretty good, though nor overpowered and simply tons of fun. Seriously thinking about doing a sort of Dynasty report with a few Videos and screenshots ...

My team (some stats don´t "add up" to team stats due to a couple injuries)

PG: Rubio / 80 Ovrl -- slightly developed his shot, slightly added up his D before the save game start. True Floor general / 12 ppg, 9 APG, 42/38 shooting, leads team in +-.

SG: Armando Rojo / 85 Ovrl -- 22 year old drafted 2nd, 6´6, basically Ginobili with more athleticism) / 24/7/6 but now out 6 weeks with a broken leg (which seems very short ?)

SF: Andor Szomory / 75 Ovrl -- 25 year old in his 3rd year drafted 15th, has an amzing stroke and unlimited range. I actually take shots 3 feet outside the arc routinely. Basically my very own Kyle Korver clone. / 17/3/1, 52/49 % shooting.

PF: Giannis Antetkounpo / 83 Ovrl (higher if edited to SF) -- Mister do-it-all. Kickass Defender routinely guarding 1-5, great at taking bigger guys off the drible, dunks everything and is a great passer. Weakness is his shooting, 9-40 from three // 16.5/10/6 with 2 BPG

C: Lyle Wilkins / 79 Ovrl -- 23 year old 7´1 Center in his 4th year, drafted 4th. Not a great athlete without much leap (his reluctance to dunk is frustrating) but kinda fluid, good defender, massive frame. Just good enough on offense to make use of smaller guys in spurts. // 12/10 with 2 BPG

Bench 1: SF/PF Paulo Viana 78 Ovrl -- 23 year old, 6´8 and 240. Decent shooter (39% from deep) but his real calling is in the high post. Quick enough to get by 4s, bigger than most 3s. Terrible rebounder (career average of 3.8 in 27 MPG) and so-so defender at best. But as a 6th man, he´s awesome. --- 14/3.5/1 in 21 MPG (averaged 20 in 32 Minutes as a starter the year before)

Bench 2: Dellavedova. Terrific shooter, decent Playmaker. Sees some minutes at the 2 as well. 8 PPG, 4 APG in 20 Minutes.

Bench 3: Boban Marjanovic / 74 Ovrl. 6/6 in 15 MPG

Just need to gush a little ... There was another patch that changed a few subtle things, especially regarding fast breaks. And the game was awesome before and pretty much perfect now. Basically the best single-player sports game (excluding text sims ;) ) i have ever player. Seriously, it´s so damn rewarding if you win and the sliders/difficulty can really be used to create the game you want.

Having an absolute blast, trying to get that title for the Celtics. Just beat the 76ers in the 2020 Playoff 2nd round. After winning the first 2 at home i got beat on a buzzer beater (after a freaking inbound play where i got totally leveled on a screen) and then returned the favor in game 4 :) Wrapped it up in game 5 thanks to 41 from Giannis, who kept loosing his defenders cutting to the basket and also had 17 boards thanks to the 76ers having trouble in the Front Court.

Basically every game is different, yet there are also things that you recognize every time in a playoff series. Heck, after my Center scored 25 and 26 in the first 2 games, the 76ers double teamed him often the next game. One game i have all the time in the world coming off PnRs, the next they are hounding me. Basically 50% i can play my game, the other 50% i have to adjust from game to game, which i love.

Yeah, pretty fun game :)

So, I've been back into this game with the NBA Finals and now I'm completely hooked again. I've been rebuilding the 76ers and we got the 2016 #1 pick which ended up being a very good but not spectacular SF. However, between him and Okafor we were building towards being a playoff team. However, his 2nd year we were suffering multiple injuries and Embiid was demanding to be traded. I traded him for a 1st round pick of the Jazz who were middle of the pack at the time. They ended up losing the 2nd half of the season and we ended up getting their lottery pick.

I was hoping for a long shot to come in as I had been watching the clear #1 consensus pick all season and salivating. He is a 6'10 270 pound SF/PF who is only 19 and is drawing comparisons to LeBron except he shoots better. Our scouts say he is destined to be a superstar. He is averaging 30 ppg, 11 rpg, and almost 10 apg in college.

So, I watch the envelops open and we are not staying at #8. I watch and watch and we got the #1 pick!

I'm super excited to draft this kid. In his 1st game, it was unbelievable. He has amazing speed for his size, and he is a very skilled shooter and post up player. To top it off he is a decent defender as well. His 1st game against the Cavs (who have since lost LeBron to FA), he is going against Kevin Love as I'm playing him at PF alongside my star SF. He ends up with 38 points, 14 boards, and 7 assists in his debut. I can't wait to see where this kid goes from here. I've never had a player in NBA 2k16 come in at an 83 and with his A potential, the sky is the limit.

I also have a very good team around him already. Tony Wroten has become a solid PG. I traded Eric Gordon last season only to have him bounce back to us in FA. I have Okafor at C, who is the best scoring big man in the league and finished 3rd in the MVP voting last season. I have Noel backing up both PF/C. And I have Pierre Jackson to back up the PG along with a few young prospects who has some skills to back up SG/SF.

Oh yeah, his 38 points were on 12 of 16 shooting and 13 of 15 from the line.
