Wow. RIP.
I almost have tears. If he was anything like the book and show portrayed him, he was a great man.

from everything i have read about him over the years since the show came out, he was portrayed very well by Damian Lewis...if you read the PennLive link posted above, there have been lots of other articles over the years about him acting the same way.

Damien and he became great friends. So did he and Spielberg.
I am big time Biography nut and I have to say, the movie and the original drove me to read everyone who had one from Easy company. Some pretty amazing reads if you are into it.

One of the greatest things to come from Band of Brothers was that it opened up a lot of the vets to tell their stories. For a long time, they kept their stories and memories to themselves. I really wish my great uncle would have been alive when Band of Brothers came out. He was in the 82nd Airborne, which also paratrooped into Normandy before the beach invasion. He didn't get relieved until after the Battle of the Bulge. He never spoke of his experiences, and after watching Band of Brothers, I can see why it would have been difficult to do so. I never knew he was awarded any medals until after he died, and I found them in a box in his attic.
Godspeed, Major Winters.
