This may seem dumb, but what color is the meat supposed to be? I got some for Christmas and decided to bust some of the burgers out of our freezer. They're still frozen solid, but in the package they're a fairly dark brown/grey color. I ate them, and the next morning I nearly puked and have felt nauseous all day (though I attribute that to my current use of penicillin for strep throat).
Is the meat supposed to be that color, because its not appealing, especially when all of my fresh meat is a nice pinkish red color.

Aging beef will cause the meat to turn brownish in color so, that is not a bad thing and can be desirable from a flavor standpoint. You've just been broken down by the man that your steak has to be pink and bland.
It has been awhile since i've had a Omaha steak, but if I remember right, they were not pink.
Now.. gray on the other hand.

I have some Kansas City steaks. Not sure how the burgers come but my steaks are vacuum sealed. They are brown, maybe a tinge of red. It's my understanding that the lack of oxygen causes this and it's normal. Once the package was opened and they thawed they became much more red. Though still not as red as store bought.

i went to the freezer and took a look at the one burger i have left...it is brown...it is not pink...it almost looks like a cooked mcdonalds burger in terms of color...i have had them for quite a while (at least 8 months), and just ate a couple last week and was perfectly fine.

I worked in a meat department for 3 years and I'm having a hard time remembering under any situation where gray meat was ever ok. All the more so after the images what I'm thinking it would look like pop into my head. My guess is there was a puncture in the package which let air in and thus spoiled the meat.
