Yep. Going to try to go tomorrow. Would go today but the game starts during work hours. Arkansas hosts Ball State.

It isn't quite the same as live audio or video, but the NCAA has brought back their gametracker from last season. It was a great tool to use during the CWS.

Coastal Carolina went 2-1 in their tourney, losing 3-2 to Kentucky in what was a very sloppy last game for them-got thrown out at home, got picked off twice, and a passed ball in the last lead to the losing run.

UVA somehow managing to hold on to its #1 ranking in BA poll despite a great LSU team staying undefeated. One of UVA's losses was a bad-ish loss (the other one is as good of a loss as you can have ... giving up a walk-off HR to the #3 team in the country on a Sunday conference game on the road). Guess we're getting back some of that karma from getting royally screwed last year. :)

Arkansas sweeps Alabama, winning 10-5 today. Last season, Arkansas was 1-5 vs. Bama and LSU, this season, 4-2 (and should be 5-1, frankly: complete bullpen meltdown cost the Hogs in Game 2 vs. LSU). This team is improved over last year and it was a CWS team last year. I'm excited. Hope we hold it together and peak at the right time.

#3 GT (21-2, 8-1) sweeps #17 UNC on the road with an 11-8 win in 10 innings today. Never mind the sweep, this is the first series win over the Tar Heels since 2006, first series win in Chapel Hill since 2003.
Zack Cox (best 3rd baseman in the country) just snapped his 24 game hitting streak with a fly out in the bottom of the 8th leading 9-4 over Centenary (unless Centenary rallies and Arkansas bats around). Too bad, I guess. Arkansas is up to #8 in the RPI. #10 Baseball America.

Arkansas drops game 1 at home against Kentucky, 12-8. Come back to win 10-1 on Saturday setting the stage for an epic game 3.
Both teams 1-2-3 in the first inning which is pretty lol. The end of the 2nd inning it was 8-5 Arkansas. Arkansas then added 5 more and looked to be on their way to an easy win at 13-5. Kentucky slowly crawled back into it at 13-9 going to the 8th. A 7 run inning for Kentucky saw them pull back in front 16-13. Quick work until the bottom of the 9th. Arkansas works the bases loaded with 2 outs and 2 strikes and Colin Kuhn hits a walk-off grand slam to win the game and series 17-16.
Wow.

#2 Georgia Tech (25-3) recovers from a mid-week loss to Kennesaw State to sweep Duke.
UGA's (10-17) struggles continue, although they did manage to win 1 of 3 from #4 LSU this weekend.
Arkansas up to #3 in the RPI! If the pitching gets better (which I think it will) this team can be really good. The hitting is definitely picking up, and the fielding is improving (man, we had a lot of errors at the beginning of the year). I think this team is capable of a lot.
Arkansas destroys St. Louis 32-8. Game was called after the 7th inning. A 14 run 1st inning got things started.
Arkansas swept New Mexico in a mid-week series (tough team, 2 one run wins) and then sweeps Georgia this weekend, outscoring them 33-9. Arkansas is now leading both the SEC West and SEC overall races, both by one game over LSU and South Carolina, at 12-3.
ETA: also swept Mississippi State on the road last weekend.

#5 Georgia Tech completes the sweep of #16 Clemson with an 11-3 decision this afternoon, wrapping up a great week that included a 26-5 win over UGA that marked the most runs & most hits allowed by their rival in more than 100 years.
Georgia's weekend starters were pretty terrible; I can only imagine what kind of nonsense they put on the mound for a mid-week game. One guy today threw the worst pitch I've seen ever in my life. It hit the netting behind the plate. Not the backstop, the netting. Must've missed the catchers attempt to stab at it by 15 feet or more.

Well they had plenty of choices, they used 10 pitchers in the mid-week game, none of whom lasted more than 2 IP's and like 3 or 4 who lasted 1/3rd or less. They're truly one of the worst staffs I can ever recall seeing at this level, so much so that the natives are starting to use the word "fire" in relationship to Coach Perno in spite of a ton of historical success. I don't see any way that happens now but if next year starts out the same way I doubt he'd make it to the end of a second year of this, it's truly abysmal baseball.
I love it :D

I wouldn't sweat it. MLB, of course, is not the same as college, but in the MLB, the best teams ever have, what, a little over a 70% winning percentage? UCLA's at around 85% now, maybe higher, and Oregon's a decent new program. I think UCLA has already done plenty to prove its credentials, and the Bruins will no doubt bounce back quickly.

Coastal Carolina swept yet another Big South opponent to remain undefeated in the Conference and has the most wins of any team in the nation. After beating North Carolina on the road last week, its looking more and more likely that Coastal will get its first ever national seed in the postseason.

Speaking of UNC, here's a pretty good illustration of how goofy hard the ACC is right now.
The Heels were #31 in the latest RPI (4/13, new one due tomorrow I guess), still in the "still receiving votes" for all of the Top 25's ... but if the season ended today they wouldn't even qualify for conference tournament (8 teams get in, top 2 from each division + four best remaining records in ACC).

wow that is goofy Jon. I know Carolina is having a bad season for them at least, but that would be freaky if they didn't even make the conference tournament.
It really is pretty wild, but that's what they're up against.
As of Sunday FSU & Clemson are the top 2 in the Atlantic, GT & Miami are the top 2 in the Coastal. For the other four spots, Virginia is 12-6, then NC State, BC, and Va Tech are all 9-9, which would fill the field. They're followed by Duke & UNC at 6-12, then Maryland (4-14) and Wake (2-16) bring up the rear. And Duke even has the tiebreaker edge over UNC thanks to taking 2 of 3 from them in their only series of the year.
The remaining schedule for UNC isn't a picnic either, with Clemson, Wake, UVA, and VaTech still to go.

Arkansas has had a bad couple of weekends. Got hosed on a call at the plate to lose the series at Florida and then gave up an 8 run 5th inning Saturday against Auburn and basically shut them down the rest of the game. Of course, getting blown out 13-2 the following day lost that series. Haven't been swept yet, at least, but our momentum is pretty much gone. Went through a similar, but much worse, stretch last season and still managed to catch fire in the tournament. Hope to do so again.

Arkansas goes on the road and takes 2 of 3 from Ole Miss. Frankly, the Rebels' Saturday starter had the game of his life last night to help them take game 2 by a score of 3-2. Hopefully we have done enough to host already. I think we have.
Looking at the latest RPI (before this weekend's games), I think you'd probably have to run into a perfect storm disaster scenario to not get a hosting opportunity. At that point there were 6 SEC teams in the top 16 in RPI, Arkansas was second among those trailing only Florida. I can see where an Auburn or an Alabama could end up not hosting in order to spread the geography out more but it's tough for me to imagine how Arkansas could get bumped that far down.

Speaking of Coastal, they became the 4th team since 2000 to go undefeated in their conference, and quite possibly on record for the most conference wins ever with 25. Wacky times in the ACC tourney, both GT & Clemson lose the first games in their pool to VaTech & NCSU respectively. Meanwhile the UVA/Miami pool has four teams all at 1-1 with one game to play.
And since they're a frequent part of this thread, I'll mention that Arkansas is out of the SEC tourney, eliminated yesterday by Florida. Meanwhile #8 seed LSU and #7 seed Alabama are the remaining unbeaten teams awaiting the winners of Ole Miss-Auburn and Florida-Vandy elimination games.
Arkansas went 2 and done. They rested all of their best players for the tourney. It was a clear phone-in, sadly. Cox, Eibner, and Smyly, all sat game 1, and Smyly pitched in relief in game 2.
Still looked worse than they should've. Pretty grim outlook on regional performance, but it was last year, too.

From the ACC Facebook feed ... Wolfpack scores on a Maynard single and holds off Hokies, 10-9 in 10 innings.
That doesn't tell the half of it. State was pounding the Hokies early on, leading 7-1 in the fourth. In the bottom half of the fourth, State's starter lost all control and confidence, allowing the Hokies to rock him for seven runs, all with two outs (gotta love college baseball). Why wasn't he pulled? Because State's bullpen blows huge chunks. Coach Avent opted to burn up the staff ace by bringing him in relief. A little rough to start, but he kept the Pack in it the rest of the way. State managed to push over the tying run late and then won it in the 10th.
So, the Pack played two games in one day, burned up their best pitchers, and now gets to play FSU. Not ideal. State's going to have to win it with the bats again. Doesn't work over an entire season (see the #7 seed we got), but may work out in a weekend tournament.

Never seen so manytalented players lose so much confidence under a very good coach before. It is still a top 5-10 talented team with guys with the right attitude, the wheels have just come off. After all the LSU teams that have found their groove so easily over the years, I guess there was bound to be a year like this sooner or later.
But LSU pulls it together to win their third straight SEC tourny, the first #8 seed to ever win it. Could they do what Oregon State did a few years ago? (Win a second straight championship after struggling in the regular season?) Who knows. Don't know what to expect from this team at this point.

If the pitching comes together in the NCAA tournament like it did in the SEC tournament, LSU will break a lot of teams' hearts.

Yea, they sent the SEC championship/defending national champion fan base that has lead NCAA in attendance for 15 or so straight years to the furtherest away regional they could possibly go to. (Although, obviously Fullerton wouldn't be much closer.) Maybe that is the very reason they did so, though. Because they knew we would help out attendance regardless of where we went. UCLA isn't one of those west coast parks that only holds around 1k people is it?

Dola, and if we manage to upset UCLA in regional, we likely have to go back to that furtherest regional area to play Fullerton in the supers. (Compare that with Fullerton's 2 and 3 seeds, which are West coast teams, and wouldn't have to go far for UCLA.)
Man, I have never see a top 30 RPI team so thoroughly hosed on location before.

Very happy to see Coastal get its first ever national seed, and a bit surprised to see them get the #4 seed in front of Virginia who the Chants lost to this season.
I'm not a big fan of playing teams in your regional that you played in the regular season though I understand the reasons behind it. I'm not a big fan of putting a College of Charleston team in as the #2 seed in Coastal's regional that beat Coastal in both games they played this season. I would have preferred someone like Clemson or Virginia Tech as the #2 seed even though they faced them this year in one game each, Coastal won both. They have also played #3 seed NC State in one game this season, beating them. #4 Stony Brook (hopefully!) shouldn't be much of a problem in the first game.
I'm just happy that they didn't get nemesis North Carolina in their regional. How about the Tar Heels making the field without even making their conference tournament?
happy with our regional but not our super partner ffs

From the chat with the selection chair
Baton Rouge: Why are you sending LSU to California?
Tim Weiser: One of the committee's policies is not to have teams from the same conference play in the same Regional. Balancing this policy with 8 teams from each of the Pac-10, ACC and SEC makes it very difficult to put the bracket together. So in some cases teams have to travel across time zones to compete.
edit to add: So let's see how much water that holds.
There are 16 regionals, 4 of which are hosted by SEC teams, so that leaves 12 possibilities.
Based on the top 8 national seeds, it looks like the top 16 (or so, depending on who didn't bid for a host slot)
1. Arizona State (est RPI #1)
2. Texas (est RPI #5)
3. Florida (est RPI #4)
4. Coastal Carolina (est RPI #2)
5. Virginia (est RPI #3)
6. UCLA (est RPI #6)
7. Louisville (est RPI #7)
8. Georgia Tech (est RPI #11)
-----
9. Auburn (est RPI #16)
10. FSU (est RPI #14)
11. CS-Fullerton (est RPI #10)
12. Oklahoma (est RPI #17)
13. South Carolina (est RPI #18)
14. Miami (est RPI #8)
15. TCU (est RPI #15)
16. Arkansas (est RPI #9)
Now the NCAA official page doesn't seem to have updated the end of regular season RPI (normally done on Tuesday) but here's a link to an approximation (http://www.boydsworld.com/baseball/rpi/currentrpi.html) of it as of today. I'm adding this estimated RPI to the list above
Missing from the top 16 seeds but in the estimated RPI top 16 are Alabama (#12) and Vandy (#13), who are both #2 seeds in their regionals. The remaining #2 seeds (and est RPI, in order of their top 16 seed opponent) are Washington State (#28), Baylor (#35), Texas A&M (#20), Va Tech (#34), Cal (#37), Stanford (#36), UConn (#23), Clemson (#19), then come Alabama (#12) and Vandy (#13), followed by LSU (#22), Ole Miss (#27), Coll. of Charleston (#26), Florida Atlantic (#38), Rice (#30), and San Diego (#29).
Teams in the top 32 of estimated RPI not in the field as a #1 or #2 seed are: UNC (#21), Arizona (#24), Oregon State (#25), Oregon (#31), and The Citadel (#32).
It looks to me as though they did some heavy geography on the 9-16 placement, setting up in-state matchups on the seeds where they could (Texas-TCU, Florida-Miami, UCLA-CS Full, and an adjacent state pair in GT-Auburn).
From there, the #2 seeds should have gone roughly with the following based on estimated RPI:
#1-1 Arizona State vs #2-38 erpi Florida Atlantic (actual vs #29 erpi San Diego)
#1-2 Texas vs #37 erpi Cal (actual vs #30 erpi Rice)
#1-3 Florida vs #36 erpi Stanford (actual vs #38 erpi Florida Atlantic)
#1-4 Coastal Carolina vs #35 erpi Baylor (actual vs #26 erpi Coll. of Charleston)
#1-5 Virginia #34 erpi Va Tech (actual vs #27 erpi Ole Miss)
#1-6 UCLA vs #30 erpi Rice (actual vs #22 erpi LSU)
#1-7 Louisville vs #29 erpi San Diego (actual vs #13 erpi Vandy)
#1-8 Georgia Tech vs #28 erpi Washington State (actual vs #12 erpi Alabama)
-----
#1-9 Auburn vs #27 erpi Ole Miss (actual vs #19 erpi Clemson)
#1-10 FSU #26 erpi Coll of Charleston (actual vs #23 erpi UConn)
#1-11 CS-Fullerton vs #23 erpi UConn (actual vs #36 erpi Stanford)
#1-12 Oklahoma vs #22 erpi LSU (actual vs #37 erpi Cal)
#1-13 South Carolina vs #20 erpi Texas A&M (actual vs #34 erpi Va Tech)
#1-14 Miami vs #19 erpi Clemson (actual vs #20 erpi Texas A&M)
#1-15 TCU vs #13 erpi Vanderbilt (actual vs #35 erpi Baylor)
#1-16 Arkansas vs #12 erpi Alabama (actual vs #28 erpi Wash. State)
Whew, whatta mess.
It appears that they may have tried to fill in geographic matches for the highest national seeds first, with in-state or adjacent non-conference opponents for the first four. One they did that then #5 Virginia & #6 UCLA had no available geo-partner, with #7 and #8 getting in-state/adjacent partners. They then did an adjacency for #15 TCU with Baylor (which should have been Tx A&M). And after that it kind of looks like they just threw the remaining teams in a hat.
Assuming the same #1's and #2's (and without me digging through the conference tourney results I didn't follow, and without me having access to the record vs top 100, record vs top 50, etc data), I would have done something like this
#1-1 Arizona State vs San Diego (actual vs #29 erpi San Diego)
#1-2 Texas vs Rice (actual vs #30 erpi Rice)
#1-3 Florida vs Florida Atlantic (actual vs #38 erpi Florida Atlantic)
#1-4 Coastal Carolina vs Va Tech (actual vs #26 erpi Coll. of Charleston)
----
#1-5 Virginia vs Cal (actual vs #27 erpi Ole Miss)
#1-6 UCLA vs Baylor (actual vs #22 erpi LSU)
#1-7 Louisville vs Vandy (actual vs #13 erpi Vandy)
#1-8 Georgia Tech vs Ole Miss (actual vs #12 erpi Alabama)
----------
#1-9 Auburn vs UConn (actual vs #19 erpi Clemson)
#1-10 FSU vs Stanford (actual vs #23 erpi UConn)
#1-11 CS-Fullerton vs Washington State (actual vs #36 erpi Stanford)
#1-12 Oklahoma vs LSU (actual vs #37 erpi Cal)
----
#1-13 South Carolina vs Coll of Charleston (actual vs #34 erpi Va Tech)
#1-14 Miami vs Alabama (actual vs #20 erpi Texas A&M)
#1-15 TCU vs Texas A&M (actual vs #35 erpi Baylor)
#1-16 Arkansas vs Clemson (actual vs #28 erpi Wash. State)
But nobody asked me ;)

Yea I noticed that myself when I saw that they had to send Pac-10 lesser seeds across the country too. LSU basically got screwed over because they only have three west coastish sites, but a good number of Pac-10 teams that can't be put in the same regionals. So someone had to go out West, and they decided it would be LSU as a 2 seed. (Why they couldn't find a way to send out West a 3 seed is beyond me though, at least tap a Big 12 two seed before you go to the SEC.)
They might need to get rid of that rule because of years like this when 3 conferences send so many teams. Doing right with the seeds and travel considerations is more important than having teams square off against conference rivals sooner rather than later.

This happens every year. Some really good teams get sent out west. Last year UVA and Georgia Southern, both as #2 seeds. UVA made the best of it and went to Omaha. Georgia Southern went home in two games. Year before Vandy got sent west as a #2 seed. Not unusual, given the usually relatively small number of west coast hosts and large number of teams to place from the SEC and ACC.

Stony Brook played well against Coastal, it was 1-0 through five or six, but finally pulled away to win 6-0. That's a big relief, the Coastal starter has not done well in post-season play last year and this year, so glad to see him get it together for this important game.
Next up either College of Charleston or NC State-I'm rooting for NC State I think given Coastal losing twice to CofC this year.
Arkansas plastered Grambling. 19-7 I think. Something like 9 homers for Arkansas. Wilkins hit one over the scoreboard. Longest HR I've ever seen. Eibner had 3 HRs, Wilkins, McCann, and Kuhn all had 2 HRs each.

Just home from all day at Baum Stadium. Arkansas beat Washington State 6-4. Great game. Arkansas way out-hit WSU, but WSU got a couple of homers to keep it very close. Got very uncomfortable in the bottom of the 8th when the lead was down to 5-4 with the bases loaded and nobody out. Jordan Pratt came in and closed it out preserving the one run lead and then worked through the bottom of the 9th for the win.
Looking ahead to tomorrow, K-State and WSU play again for the opportunity to try to beat Arkansas twice. Arkansas still has Mike Bolsinger ready for tomorrow night (he was our Friday starter earlier in the season and has had a couple of great outings recently). Very comfortable with our pitching situation. Should be able to close it out.

Minnesota wins after they got 2 in the 10th and pitcher Scott Matyas stuck out the last 8 batters he faced. They're the only 4 seed to be 2-0 right now, really hoping they can take at least 1 of 2 from the winner of Cal State Fullerton and New Mexico.

Very disappointed in Coastal Carolina after they lost 16-6 to Charleston. Starting ace pitcher only last 2 2/3 innings, giving up 10 runs. Thankfully the relief pitchers weren't used in the first game, so hopefully will still have some arms left for the hopefully next two games. Should be able to get by Stony Brook again I hope to get their revenge against the Cougars-but its going to be a tough job to beat them twice now.

Yep you guessed it, we go to the ninth tied at ten. Coastal's #2 starter is now pitching-he went the full 9 innings in game 1.
Watching your game on cbssports.com. Bit of a slug-fest.
Our game tonight is at 7. Wife has a meeting that ends at 8, so we are going but just for the second half or so of the game. We played a pretty terrible game last night and were still right in it. Comparing our pitching staff situation to WSU's gives me quite a bit of comfort. Plus realizing that Cox and Eibner should be back in the lineup. That's great by itself, but the true key is that it allows us to have everyone playing at their primary position. Having those 2 out of the lineup means we have to move half the team around to secondary positions. Last night, this bit us square in the ass with about a brazillion errors.

OMG an unbelievable play to end the inning, hit off the pitchers glove to the third baseman, and threw the guy out at first in a very close play. The Charleston coach went after the ump, and a policeman had to restrain him. He got thrown out-the third Charleston guy to be thrown out in this regional. Just a crazy, crazy game.
Coastal PBP guy just said that was the 3rd CoC person ejected in this series.
Their coach just got ejected for arguing a call that went against them that would've won the game. He was being restrained by a policeman and threw his arm away from him.

Awesome game 1 in the CSWS game. UCLA hits the go-ahead HR in the bottom of the 6th inning, Arizona takes the lead in top of the 7th inning, and then UCLA ties it up in the bottom of the 6th on two errors and a double. Bottom of the 8th inning, UCLA's star player hits a 2 out walkoff HR
Woot. Arkansas handles WSU very easily tonight, 7-2. On to Tempe to play Arizona State in the Super Regional. Going to be tough, but we can do it. We took 2 of 2 from the in a mid-week last season at Baum. It's a Sat-Mon SR so our staff can be rested for game 1.

Coastal/South Carolina starts tomorrow at Coastal. Very interesting series. Coastal started out as part of the University of South Carolina system and broke away in the mid 1990's in fairly ugly fashion. Politics and the apparant mutual dislike between the baseball coaches of the two teams have prevented the schools from playing each other in any sport until recently when some of the smaller sports teams played each other. No baseball games since 2004.
And now South Carolina is all up at arms about how Coastal handled ticket sales for the regional, which is the same exact way Carolina would have handled them. So it should be a pretty intense and exciting regional (with Coastal hopefully winning)
