I think I know what's going to win, but let's ask anyway.

I tend to take over good/great teams because of the nature of the teams I like: Detroit Red Wings, Pittsburgh Steelers, NY Yankees. Of course, I have yet to get through one season in football and baseball. Go figure.

I usually take teams that I root for, Dolphins/Braves/Man Utd.
In FM I will mix it up occasionally and play as a team in the Dutch league because you don't have to play a thousand games in a season like English teams and there are no foreigner restrictions.

Heerenveen FTW!

I usually take the teams I root for as well, with some modifications. I almost always play the Lions because, well, they've pretty much always sucked since these games have been around.
In EHM, I take the Wings, though I usually do a fantasy draft to shake things up.
I've only dabbled in baseball sims, but every time I dabbled I took the Tigers.
In NCAA, I always created a university from scratch and built it up.
For FM, I usually took a lower league English team, so it's all kind of random.

Start with my team (wherever they are on the scale), build them up, then restart with a bad team, build them up, and by then I'm usually done with the game.

If it's there I like the expansion route (or if not, a league wide redraft while controlling one of my favorite teams). Lets me mold things from day one in the fashion I prefer and let's me really map out the next 3-5 seasons.
Second would be taking over a bad team and doing the same as above, but obviously in a bit slower fashion as you have to do a lot more asset management/movement just to get the rebuild really in motion.

If expansion is an option, I like to take that route.
If that's not the case, I will generally play a lousy team and go from there.

Major American sports I'm usually the local team 99.9% of the time, or, NCAA wise, my alma mater (Colorado).
FM, I usually hit up a lower level team who has a cool sounding name or has good history.

Since FOF2007 doesn't have expansion, I checked bad team

Being a Seattle fan, I have the luxury of taking my favorites and bad teams all in one!

I like taking teams with lots of promising prospects and developing them around average veterans and seeing if I can make them into a good team.

Twins, Vikings, Twolves, Gophers, Wild so local. If that isnt an option like WWSM I look for a lower team with strong history.
If any of the teams I like were too strong to start Id likely pick a bottom of the league type team as the challenge is building teams up.
Mediocre or bad team, i enjoy rebuilding way more than instant winning.

I like building from the ground up, so expansion is best followed by the league mutt.

I really should do more rebuilding with teams. The problem is that it is difficult to do this with teams like the Red Wings and Steelers. I have tried being the Lions before, but as I said earlier, I never can seem to get through even one season for whatever reason. I generally tend to make a lot of trades to acquire young talent/prospects/draft picks, and this sets me up for a great future; albeit a future I never see.

I picked local, but in retrospect have no idea why. I actually prefer either random LLM in FM or fictional universes in other sims, but that choice was missing.

It would be fun to manage a trout.

Thanks, everyone, for your votes and replies.
I didn't include a random team option because I can't think of any reason anyone would want that. I certainly wouldn't pick it, but I guess some do. I'll include it in the future.
Local teams, huh? I thought that would come in third (behind bad team and expansion team). So I guess I'm a little surprised.
