Anyone tried them yet? I've just had the Mt Dew thus far. It tastes like Mt. Dew, but the aftertaste is a lot better.

I have a couple of 12 packs of the Pepsi throwback in my fridge and really like it - it's got a cleaner sugar taste which I prefer. I'll definitely be stocking up for when it goes off the shelves in June.

I'm drinking my first Mountain Dew in nearly a decade. Ahhhh...

I will hoard these & the Pepsi counterparts.

If they do not make this a regular product line, then I will simply revert to drinking the other sodas sweetened with sugar that I have been.

I've had the sugar sweetened Dr. Pepper that they make in Texas. It really is a better taste, IMO, than the normal stuff.

I've had a couple 12 packs of the dew. doesn't really 'hit the spot' like the regular dew. of course, 'that spot' is probably just my body's severe addiction to high fructose corn syrup...

Kind of how I feel too, although I liked it better than the Pepsi, which IMHO, tasted like Coke to me.

You know, I've never really considered a soda to be my "favorite" but I do like Cheerwine, even with its chocolatey-cherry flavor (which is just so weird to me).

I'll have to keep my eyes out for a real sugar version when I get back to VA.

I bought a throwback dew today to try. I took my swig and my brain immediately registered that it tasted god awful. Thankfully I didn't just toss it and about a 1/3 of the way through the bottle it started to taste good. Guess my mind was just wired to not like real sugar.

I really didn't like the Pepsi, and the boutique drink Pepsi Natural sucks ass too. The Mt Dew is friggin awesome tho.

Maybe the Pepsi will taste better out of a can, i dunno.

Finally tried out the Mt Dew version tonight (hey, I'm up at 2:40 in the morning, whaddya know?). Still can't make up my mind on it, but it has given me insight into the fact that artificial sweeteners in diet sodas were apparently not that far off on the taste of sugar (other than the "holy hell, that's a nasty aftertaste" thing). When I first started drinking it, it seemed to have a flavoring that reminded me of diet drinks, but which I'm now coming to realize is really what sugar tastes like and that my whole perspective, much like others, has been totally skewed by high fructose corn syrup. If there were hope that Mt Dew (or other big-name soft drinks) would convert over to sugar, then I'd probably think about buying them to drink at home again, but for now, I pretty much restrict it to eating out (which unfortunately hasn't limited things all that much since I usually end up someplace where you can refill the cup). I'd also consider the canned sodas from Whole Foods since they're relatively cheap for sugar-based sodas, but the Whole Foods in Raleigh is way the hell out of the way of where I live and work.

The wife and I have been drinking both for about a week. The Mountain Dew is our favorite, it seems a lot more smooth but also seems less carbonated (if that makes sense). The Pepsi also features the above qualities but seems to almost have a diet taste to it. That being said, what I like about both is that they are much thinner compared to the normal soda, they seem much less syrupy (obviously related to the sweetener change). I'm a Coke drinker normally so I would really like to see them try this but overall, the throwbacks are good.

for those that havent seen them they both look almost identical and the throwback logo isnt prominent at all.

I have had both, both are ok..different not good or bad ok.
A few take aways.
- Sure are very few ingredients listed, what only 4 ingredients...who knew
- Dont seem as fizzy almost flat...wish there was more carbonation
- Holy hell they have no shelf life. Tonight I bought a pepsi throw back and a pepsi max, the pepsi max says drink bu 2/01/12 the throw back 7/1/09....

Got Mt. Dew and it doesn't seem to have the aftertaste of the regular one. And I agree with the folks who say it doesn't seem to be as carbonated. But I'm okay with it, as it doesn't come off as sweet to me..in a good way.

If it sells real well, wouldn't they make it permanent?

For those who don't like it, you're brains are just hard wired into HFCS. If everything you ate and drank had real sugar in it, this would taste natural.

Nah. The whole reason soda (and other foodstuff) manufacturers use high fructose corn syrup instead of sugar is because it's a preservative. Allows product a longer shelf life in stores before it has to be disposed of, which helps reduce production waste.

I had a couple of the throwback Pepsi's over the weekend, but didn't try the throwback Dew. That said, I like the throwback Pepsi a hell of a lot more than the regular.

I thought it had something to do with taxes on sugar vs corn.

FYI, I'm not sure who it was that said the shelf life is short but the Pepsi I have is good for about a year, and the Mnt. Dew is good for about 6 months according to my expiration dates.

Look for the old style Mountain Dew and Pepsi logos, they are noticeably different then the normal boxes and can logos. Also they had a ton of it at the local Target.

I like both versions better then the current HFCS versions. They aren't as rough tasting, not sickening sweet.

Each of which oddly enough are commonly available throughout Georgia, from convenience stores to chain groceries. Well Faygo at least, has been for as long as I can remember. Vernor's gets some national chain grocery shelf space now but I can remember back in the early 80's when a guy I worked for used to bring base cases upon cases of Vernor's when he would go to St. Louis on business.

Interesting. I bet it's all available in Chicago somewhere, but it's not like I need to be buying it that often anyway, so I might as well just get it when I'm somewhere I know it's available instead of hunting around. Vernors is probably easy to find, but Faygo might be a little more difficult.

Doesn't bragging about the use of real sugar make their existing product line look bad? Why would you encourage people to realize that they aren't getting real sugar in their normal Pepsi? This would be like McDonalds creating a 'throwback milkshakes - made with real milk!'. And then everyone is like "what the hell is in the stuff I'm drinking the rest of the time??".

JonInMiddleGA

Not at all since "sugar is bad" has been drummed into virtually every brain in the country. Never mind the relatives pros & cons of what they use normally vs what they use in the throwbacks, you aren't going to overcome that amount of brainwashing without an equally fervent campaign in the opposite direction. That makes the risk to Pepsi virtually nothing.
