Sorry if this has been asked here before, but I'm seriously thinking about plunking down the money for an Xbox 360. The only problem is I don't have an HDTV and I'm not planning on getting one for at least another two years.

Are there any problems with running an Xbox 360 on a non-HDTV? Obviously the quality of the graphics won't be as good, but are there any video issues with a non-HDTV?

Nope no known issues that I'm aware of.

I run my 360 on both my regular non-HDTV and my PC monitor. There only problem with running it on the regular TV is that the text in some games is a little fuzzy or hard to read, but it's nothing major.

Text on the screen is the only issue, but those games that have small text that is hard to read on a normal TV are far and away the exception rather than rule. In fact, Dead Rising is the only game I've played that I had problem reading the text on a normal TV. Every other game was fine.

Get an LCD, it's the cheapest way to play your 360 games in HD.

I started off with a BenQ 20" widescreen and now I'm running a Dell 24" monitor. Games look gorgeous on these babies!!

Here's a BenQ 22" LCD for $279!

I rotate playing my 360 on a non-HDTV and my computer monitor using VGA cables. Obviously mostly I use the monitor, but it's sort of a pain swapping out the cables..I guess I should look into getting a switch or something, I assume they have those.

Anyhow, to the question some text is VERY hard to read on standard TV's. I seem to run into some problems with it chopping off part of the screen as well regardless of settings.

It works though for the most part.

As mentioned, some games have scaling weirdness on non-HDTV's.

Dead Rising's text is the most infamous, but EA's sports games have had that issue, and I've seen some oddities in Crackdown when it comes to where certain text overlays get displayed - sometimes I can see them on a HDTV set and can't see them at all on an SDTV set. Maybe they're getting displayed off-screen on the SDTV?

I've got a 360 and a non-HDTV, I haven't had any issues at all. I'm running my video out as component into my non-HDTV.

NCAA 2008 has hard to read text. Otherwise, no problems for me so far.

Gotta say, Mizzourah's idea has me tempted...

Damn. That was the game I was going to get. Wife's already nixed the monitor idea.

Oh well... there's always Christmas. :)

EA Sports games do have hard to read text on a non-HD TV for the 360, but beyond that I haven't noticed any problems.

Yup, that's what I use, a VGA switch to go back and forth between my PC and the 360.

Almost all new monitors today have a nice little button to switch between the pc and my 360. :)

My VGA switch has 4 connections, so I can hook my 2nd PC and eventually a PS3 to my monitor and not have to switch out any cables. :)

Darn you guys. You're making buying the 360 dam well tempting. I don't have a HDTV, but have the LCD PC monitor. And I've been leaning towards the 360. I've already discussed it with the wife and she already tentitavely gave me an okay for it...Well, maybe after the price drop.

Which text? i have an old 27" TV and have had no issues so far with NCAA 08. I've also exclusively played campus legend mode so if there are issues w/ the recruiting screens or something else in dynasty mode i haven't seen it yet.

that's because you've gone blind from having to read such messed up text.

It's the recruiting screens.
