Me and a buddy are taking our first winter trip to Vegas next weekend and I was surfing some things on a Vegas site and noticed the current temp as 42 degrees! All of my trips have been between March and September and I knew it probably wouldn't be 95 degrees for this one, but this is quite a bit lower than I expected it to be. Is this normal? (I see the long range forcast has the high 50's for next weekend, but who knows how reliable those are) In the winter does the strip require a coat at night if you want to walk between hotels? Isn't this city in the middle of a desert? Intrerested in any info from locals or posters who have taken trips in the winter.

fwiw, a coworker of mine was in Vegas last week and he said they did need a little jacket in the evening. Not that he minded so much, we're up to wearing our winter coats up here :)

The latest I've been, I think, is late October-early November, but my wife confirmed my recollection that we definitely needed jackets at night during the trip.

A quick Google shows average high for Dec. in Vegas is 58, with an average low of 34. I'd think that makes a heavier jacket a wise call, although maybe not a full blown coat per se.

I was impressed that it was only supposed to be about that in Houston today

I lived in Phoenix many years ago and used to scoot to Vegas for many weekends and I recall going in Dec and it was down around 30. I think the normal Dec day in Vegas is in the 30's at night, get up into the 50's or 60's in the daytime. Not normal to have a high of only 42, but it does happen on occasion.

Thanks for the replies. It looks like I will have to reconsider my wardrobe, no big deal though. My friend is real excited about being able to watch the NFL, but with bodog and the Sunday Ticket I have a feeling this is going to be a big letdown. Don't get me wrong we will have a great time and I love Vegas, but I am guessing the sportsbooks at all of the big casinos are just going to be annoying instead of being fun.

Panerd, they are what you make of them. I most definitely prefer the privacy of the house with the sunday ticket on the plasmas, but the SB scene in Vegas has its own frenzy.

Recommend Ballys stadium style book, good bartenders and plenty of room - just get there earlier than 5 minutes before kickoff. Caesars might be the biggest, but its all open floor with alot of casino traffic milling around. Not bad but kind of a disjointed feeling with the bigscreens and the audio. NYNY has that ESPNZone thing if you're into that stuff. While eating dinner you can get up and right outside are the windows, place a few bets, and voila! back to the chicken wings.

I plan on checking out the football scene at Hardrock and Vegas Hooters this year. That sounds like something you'd say in 1987, doesnt it?

Currently it is 27 F outside. Too cold to run; there's frozen ice on the streets and I fear for my weak ankles.

Personally I was not a fan of the Bally's sports book. To large a portion of it is dedicated to horse racing only (especially considering it is fairly small). I agree with what you said about Ceasers. Wynn's sports book was very nice. The key for any of them is to get their early. I mean very early. When we were there last September we were there at the Wynn sports book an hour before game time and every seat in the joint was taken.

Although it actually worked out as we just went into the poker room and you could see virtually every game in there anyway.
