View Full Version : OT: Reason #1643 not to post in Politics threads...

...sometimes the thread starter deletes those threads. Which is too bad, as Warhammer & I were having an interesting discussion on Napoleon and all.
Still, this is good news. The next time I start one (or two) trolling threads, I know I can just delete them when they get out of hand. No harm, no foul. :)

It is especially poor form given the author of the thread was being criticized for a pattern of making inflammatory posts. No one was actually discussing the original topic anymore.

Maybe there ought to be a standing rule that once a post get X number of replies, it cannot be deleted. My vote would be that once 15 replies occur, a thread becomes public domain.

The one with from the WSJ opinion page about how liberals have caused all that is bad in the world. It was also the one where several of us asked why the hell PSUColonel hasn't been banned if Jesse was.

He also deleted a "This really annoys me" one which was just more liberal-bashing. He was on quite a roll, but sadly decided to take himself out of the race at the last minute.... :(

Starting threads to bash liberals is very unbecoming. It really goes without saying. The true stunners are when folks continually post about how bad the conservatives are. I just don't get those. :)
EDIT: Oh, and deleting threads with on going conversations is bad form.

Maybe people should havestuck to the discussion at hand rather than going out an attacking others on a personal level. I have long been a member of this community in good standing, and was simply initiating a discussion over an article that even got play on a nationally syndicated talk show earlier in the day. I really don't see why this should lead to my banning...oh let me guess, some of you don't like my politics, that must be the reason. Deny it all you want, but that's exactly what was going on. In light of the situation and the lack of intelligence of those posting in the thread, I decided it would be better off to simply close it down. So say what you want, but maybe next time people can stick to the topic at hand.

For the record, I specifically said you shouldn't be banned.
By "personal attacks," do you mean posting your old crappy posts for everyone to see? Or did I miss something?
And now you are insulting other people's intelligence as the basis for deleting a thread where you were being exposed for being a trollish poster on this board. Classy. Real classy.

You didn't even do this with the title of your thread, and the content of your first post. Why would you expect anything else from anyone else?
You entitled the post "Best article to describe liberals" or something like that. You then posted an article that talked about differences between WW2 and subsequent battles.
I've heard all sorts of stuff from syndicated radio shows. That seems to be Bubba Wheels' favorite source for misguided info. I heard one time a guy talk about his involvement with the Flat Earth Society. Does that validate his views simply because he was on nationwide radio?

I've done my share of liberal bashing, but if we're gonna do it, liberals should have the same right. Either there's free expression of opinions on both sides of the aisle, or no one should do it.
Sorry, man. You're just wrong on this one.

Reason #1 not to post in Politics threads:
You will never manage to sway or convince the person you are debating with because people are as stubborn about their political leanings as they are about their religious beliefs. It will take some kind of personal involvement (positive or negative, though usually the latter) for anyone's views on politics to change - again, much like religion - and a well thought out, sourced, and by-and-large truthful post on a message board will have zero impact on anything.
Better to just post in the Off-Colour Jokes Thread (http://www.operationsports.com/fofc/showthread.php?t=54962).

I started the Koran thread and chose not to delete it.
Though I used to think differently, I figure now that once the thread is out there, it should not really be in my power to delete it.
Basically, a thread will either die on its own or, if it really goes over the top, a mod will lock/delete it.
In other words, like any good politician, I simply pass the buck.
