View Full Version : Anchorage, Alaska
Has anyone spent time there or live there? I will be headed there in a little over a month and need something to do.

I spent 2 days there and did as much sight-seeing as possible, one day to the south and one day to the north. Saw a few glaciers, visited a park and did a bit of hiking up a mountain. Oh, and almost took out a moose (or the other way around) who was lazily making his way across a road as I came around a curve.
Wish I could have spent more time, but my trip got cut short when we thought Ivan was headed toward Tallahassee.

Moose's Tooth Brew Pub = Good Pizza & Good Beer.
And there was this greasy spoon called something like the Red Dot Diner or something. Good burgers there.

Flew into there before my wife and I left for a cruise. There is plenty to see, just get out and around and the cool stuff finds you.

One of my uncles (by marriage) used to live up there. He would regale me with stories of having to use a blowtorch to melt his engine block before being able to start his engine, and tales of cheating death on crab fishing boats.
My aunt (blood relative) called him on his BS and eventually divorced his sorry ass.
That's my story, but I don't think it really addresses your questions.

Moose's Tooth or Bear Tooth for pizza and beer (and maybe a $2 movie at Bear Tooth). Peanut Farm for beer and wings. Great Alaska Bush Company for..uh..bush. All don't-wanna-miss places. :)
