Nope. I don't think it can even come close to FM 06 considering all of the horrid reviews I read of CM 05.

Downloaded the demo, and it's WAY better than CM5, but still not quite right.
There is a lot to like - I like the tactical set up options: FM is too detailed to me (which manager honestly says I want you to play at 85% attacking mentalilty, but you should be 45%, etc...) and the 5 options makes a lot more sense. Position changes, feeds, runs all look good, and the general instructions are exactly what I feel is able to be communicated by a manager. I like it a lot.
But, a major downside, is that this perfect instructional level does not seem to have an effect on the pitch :D so while it looks good it is worthless.
The match view is a little cluttered for my liking, but I really like the isometric views and the player representation - way better than FM.
But again, the problem is that the match engine is horrible, so while it looks great, for example you end up with 20+ corners per team every game, largely because defenders just hoof it out of play even if they are not under pressure. Players do not react properly in general, so again it's a case of looks great but underneath that it is pretty pants.
And the other killer is the transfer market - searches are excellent, player attributes looked OK (maybe a little high) from the couple of months game time I played, but it is too easy to get players above your level, and the big clubs are interested in the wrong players - I think Barca signed Sean Gregan in my demo game :D
It is very promising that CM07 may well begin to be a playable game, and rival FM, but at the moment it is a case of mutton dressed as lamb, which is actually a major improvement from CM5 (which could be desribed as a steaming pile of shit dressed as... well a steaming pile of shit). This version is not worth any money, but if the progress is maintained, the next one might be
