So,
Here I sit, Monday at about 3 PM MST. I have just finished the most grueling weekend I have ever worked....50 hours, moving my company.
As many of you have known, I went from one company to where I am at now. I took the position of Director of Development, managing a small team of developers. When it became apparent that I knew more about tech than the partner that was running the Hardware side, the rest of the managing group bought him out, and promoted me to Director of IT, with my responsibilities covering all of IT....development, network, hardware....along with this came the move as well.
I was left hanging dealing with a cheap cabling guy that I did not feel comfortable with, an older phone guy who I did not feel comfortable with. All who had deals in place from the former partner.
I found movers, and negotiated the rate...it also appears I negotiated myself out of any customer friendly aspect here.
So Friday night, I made sure everything was packed properly in the old space, check the employees cubes/offices, making sure they were ready to go. I worked from 7:30 am until Midnight...
Saturday rolls around, my movers were to show up at 7:30, nothing. They were 2 hours later, and it turns out, the one guy scheduled was a no show. So they showed up with a younger guy and a 62 year old I thought was going to have a heart attack...We are not that big yet, it's about 40 to 50 employees, and we are adding on an additional 35 in December, hence the need for a move.
Needless to say, the underestimated the move, and double booked the day, and left me with half my office moved, with them coming back on Sunday.
Sunday rolls around, they show up with a 3rd person, still took all day to move and then, my phone and cable guys are not done...this hurts...
Sales was supposed to be up...didn't happen until 9 am. Our personal coaching department, the ones with sessions, we got up, but here it is and the rest of the coaches still do not have access....
This turned into one big mess because I was pigeon holed into using people I did not want to use.
Oh well....I have learned my lesson.
