I just heard the new single, "Fine Line" from him, and I really like it. It sounds like some of the best stuff in years from him, so that is really cool. It kinda of felt he may be done, but he still has a little gas in the tank.
This makes it even better, because I will be front and center stage when he comes to Dallas in November. It will be the first time I have seen him, and the first concert I have been to since college. He was really the only person I wanted to see live that I haven't.
I know many might not like him, but 1000 years from now, when they talk about music from 1920-2020, they will probably only talk about the Beatles, so it is pretty cool I get to see him. I bet it is a great show.
He is one of those guys I hate to see get old because he is so amazingly talented. But, I realize there are as many on this board who go "meh" about this, and to each his own.

If you're right, that's an incredibly sad indictment of an 80 year period.

I've heard good things about his new album -- supposed to not just be the crap he's been making for decades. We'll see.

"Live and Let Die" excluded, of course.

This album is decent because he allowed Nigel Godrich to produce it.

80 year period?

but 1000 years from now, no one will remember you or the fact that you went to see a former Beatle in concert, so it's kind of a wasted effort, IMO.

Post-Beatles McCartney worth listening to:
RAM - Paul & Linda McCartney
Band On The Run - Wings
McCartney - Paul McCartney (although this album is fairly filler-laden)

Paul is frickin' amazing in concert. I've seen him twice (1990, 2002). No opening band, just him and his band for 2.5+ hours. His voice is still acceptable live, and in the last tour, he had a 45 minute acoustic section where it was just him, a guitar, and us. I am so pissed that I missed the chance to buy tickets for his concert here in November...AAAARRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

Eh, I think they are more likely to talk about Dylan than McCartney. But I'm a big Bob Dylan fanboy... :D

McCartney is the man. I always hate it when Lennon fanboys try to dis him.
That said, he has sucked horribly for the last 20 years or so.

On a fluke I fell into some free tickets to his show tonight in NYC (Madison Square Garden), and I came away very impressed. Aside from few duds off the new album (his voice sounded awful on "Jenny Ren"), it was an outstanding set list and solid, solid performance.
Since I hold the Beatles on a pedastel above all other bands, this felt almost sort of like a life achievement for me. Throughout most the concert I couldn't stop thinking "That's Paul freakin McCartney right there!" Also it helped that I had great seats (with an absurd $289.50 face value on them...who the hell could/would pay that?). He even played something off RAM, my favorite post-Beatles record. If anyone of you out there are on the fence about seeing him on this tour, I suggest you go for it. I know i would have eventually kicked myself if I never saw him live, when i'd had the opportunity.

I have seen him quite a few times over the past few years, and you will come away from that show with new respect for him. Wait and see.
I have taken younger musician friends of mine over the years to see McCartney and the Stones. They have told me they hate them, but go just to say they had seen them...
Now I think they all listen to them more than I do. It is fun to watch the turnaround. These are some metal guys...jazz guys...will happen again later this month in Seattle when I take a drummer I am recording with to see the Stones. It will be at least the 4th drummer I have 'converted', so 'saved' as I like to say.
Have fun!

The concert was great tonight. The show was 3 hours, and every minute of it was fun. Once I got past the, "THAT IS PAUL McCARTNEY 11 feet from me", it was just great music.
Now, if I can get Roger Staubach to throw me a pass, my idol worship will be done, and I can fade into Bolivian.

When we lived in Dallas back around 82-83, my brother played against Staubach's kid in t-ball and my mom kept score with him. He threw me a baseball, but not a football.
