It seems like ABC is just going out of it's way to Piss people off next Monday.

I have Game 1 starting at 7:30 and Game 2 starting at 9:00. With all the hoopla surrounding the Game you know Game 1 is going to go over 3 hours.

This means you are going to be Pissing off people who want to watch the end of game 1, but can't because they swith to cover the opening of game 2 and you are going to have the exact opposite of people wanting to watch the opening of game 2, but have to watch the ending of game 1.

Also, Where does this leave ESPN's Monday Night Countdown?

The end of the first game will switch to ESPN at 9 PM EST except in New York and NO where the start of the NY/WAS game will be on ESPN. If you have cable, you won't miss any of either game.

The whole situation is boogered up. There is no reason why the game should have been played in NY, either.

You are talking about ESPN having regional coverage? I didn't think ESPN could change there schedule based on where you lived. They would need a local station to make those type of changes, wouldn't they?

No, its called digitial broadcasting via sattelite. they can send any signal they want to any number (limited by their hardware in space) of regions.

The alamo dome isn't going to be ready for an event like that, Giants stadium will already be prepped for the jets game, all they need to do is clean and restock the vending areas for the saints game. Its really a no brainer, just play the damned game.

Yes, there is. There's a lot of preperation that needs to go into a game, and only today was the Saints home game locations settled. The NFL simply needed to cement that Week 2 game ASAP when the flood went down in New Orleans.

Now a neutral site might have been better, but then you have a hard time selling tickets. the NFL isn't stupid, they know putting the game in Giants stadium was an automatic sellout.

Then beyond that you have the Jets playing at home on Sunday, so the options were realsitically to move the game to Saturday or Monday. Why not play it on Monday, draw further attention to the relief efforts, and generate some money for the cause?

I'd like to see how KITV will be able to tape delay both games.

Why? Because it gives one NFL team 9 home games and another 7 home games. If you are Dallas, Philadelphia, or Washington, you have a disadvantage in your division. If you are an NFC South team, you have an advantage. All these things will have an effect on the playoff chase.

It may have been the easiest move, but it was not the best and most fair. The NFL, with all of its political and financial power, could have gotten a game together in three weeks in San Antonio or Baton Rouge with the same goodwill gestures it is pulling off in New York.

Or just put the game in a neutral NFL City like Houston.

Funny, I didn't think the Saint were going to play any of there games at home in the Super Dome this year.

Yes, but you were playing the Cardinals, so that's the equivalent of Florida playing a division 1AA team. Don't get too cocky.

IIRC, the Saints weren't all that happy it was at Giants Stadium, but not like they had a choice.

Looking at my digital cable's onscreen guide and it shows the Giants/Saints being shown live on ABC! The thing is it is listed as being from 1:30 to 4:30 (the entire game), ESPN is listed as having it from 3:00 to 4:30. The Cowboys/Redskins game is in their usual tape delayed slot of 6:30 to 10.

I think the NFL pulled the trigger a little early, but the options were somewhat limited. At the time the decision was made, it was unclear any of the other stadiums in Lousianna were going to be viable options and even if they were filling the stadium might be a problem. Filling the stadium would be even harder in Houston, but that would have at least made geographic sense for the Saints.

While the New York option makes certain sense, I honestly believe the NFL chose this option because it's a "great story" -- the homeless Saints playing across the river from the site of the World Trade Center in the Big Apple. If it had been the Saints at Detroit, I think this game would have been played in Houston.

Heck, the cynic in me even thinks the NFL may have considered that choosing New York would help them in their bid to get the area to pony up the dough to build the new stadium and NFL offices. I doubt that was the primary motivation, but I'll bet it was in the back of the mind.

I understand that the Giants will have an extra home game in that they get to play at home, but my understanding was that the game for record keeping purposes is a home game for the Saints, so even if NY wins, it's still considered an away game.

I am not sure how that figures into the weird ass tie breaking system the NFL uses, whereby the team with the most fans that have claimed extraterrestrial sightings wins, but it just my 2 cents.:D

On Mike & Mike this morning they roughly estimated that around only 30,000 tickets or so have been sold so far, still quite a ways to go to reach sellout.

Q: What is the NFL doing for the Saint's season ticket holders?

I have yet to read a story about how the Saint's Season ticket holders have been consulted in any of these plans. I know the Saint's organization has been trying to move to San Antonio, so this is where the the owner wants to play games, I know the NFL wants the New York ratings for the MNF game, but I have yet to see any actual New Orlean Saints ticket holders getting any say in the matter.

Why?

ESPN has been doing regional coverage for at least a couple of years, if not longer. If you have DirecTV or Dish Network, you've seen all the alternate channels they have now.

My thing is why couldn't they have the game in Houston. First, they have a first-rate NFL stadium ready to go. 2nd, they have probably the biggest contingent of refugees of any city. It would make the best option for the Saints, and for all the fans. If you don't sell out, there are always thousands of people at the shelters that are dyind to go. Why is money the only motivation behind this decision?
