If you've never watched DCI (Drum Corps International) shows, you should tune in to this. This is the kind of thing I do for a living (teach this stuff) so I am very excited that ESPN2 has picked this up. The last few corps to go will be phenomenal (I've seen most of the shows this season). Give it a chance if you never have.

I saw an event with Phantom Regiment (and a few other corps) in Rockford about 10 years ago since my grandparents live there. Is this the same type of thing?

SI

Yes. Phantom Regiment has an outstanding show that you will get to see tonight, in fact.

You teach corps? With who and when?

Very cool. I was all dissapointed because I thought that they would televise the DCA World Championshpis from Scranton, PA. My girlfriend was a colorguard member for the Reading Buccaneers who took first at the shoe by a whopping three points!!!

No, high school marching band, which is very similar. I aspire to teach with a drum corps some day, though. I also write halftime drill and arrange music for several other bands.

That's cool. I only marched one season, 1993 with Spirit. I instructed at a high school the fall after that.

I have not been to a live corps show since 2000. I just can't make it out there and all the rules changes have really dampened my enthusiasm.

My wife and I were both in high school marching band (different schools). Brings back memories. Also, I wish I had played drums.

Thank god I got to see the Cavaliers show live earlier this year. What they showed on the broadcast was about 1/5 of it. And, of course, none of the musical high points. Of course they showed the cutsey baseball bit, but then acted like that was the end of the show? Come on. Why I get excited about these broadcasts when I know they are going to use 90% of it for commercializing and then cut out 85% of the actual show content, I'll never know.

And wow was I disappointed with the Cadets show. It looked clean, but I was not impressed with the show concept. Maybe I'm a Cavaliers fan-boy but I see no way in the world they shouldn't have won that (felt the same in 2003 when they finished 2nd to the Blue Devils).

I *hated* the Cadets' show concept. Awful stuff. I'm a bit biased, though, as I hate George Hopkins and the changes he has brought to the activity.
