In the spirit of the recent polls Jim posted, I was wondering: How many people did you try to get to play FOF?
I've tried unsuccessfully to get my friends and anyone who has an interest in Football to play. I would estimate that I've emailed the solecismic website to probably 50 different people over the past 6-7 years and no one has ever said they've bought the game. Most have told me that they didn't find the demo "fun" and there were no graphics (well...I told you that when I described it!). Maybe I didn't sell it hard enough.
Anyhow, I'm guessing that other people were luckier than I was in getting their friends to try out the game.

I've mentioned it to several co-workers and people that like fantasy football and sports, but no one has bitten yet.

Mmmhhh... I posted about it in an Italian newsgroup about American sports, so I guess over 26... I don't know if anyone has actually purchased the game, but at least they checked the site...

I think I m 0 fo 20 on getting people to actually play the game.
"How can you play with no graphics?!" This has come from Madden diehards and guys who still play Zork, makes no sense.

0-10. Most of the guys who I know who would be interested in this I know from here.
I've tried to get a few of my football obsessed friends into it, but it seems like you are either into sports text sims or you are not. They were not.

I have gotten at least three people to try out one version and I know one of them has purchased several versions.

I got a friend to try FOF2 soon after I purchased it. Really haven't bothered trying with anybody else since.

I've gotten one friend completely hooked on FoF and text sims in general, but I didn't vote in the poll because "I could care less if there's another version of FOF" isn't true with me, I've tried to get many more interested in FoF but so far only one success story here.

ive found myself glossing over many an eye talking about it. Just seems that once I get into it, either my energy or the amount of depth just makes them kinda crack their lips, nod, smile and eventually interrupt with some reference to fantasy football. grrreeee

I have never mentioned it to my friends because they have no idea what a text sim is and would probably quickly dismiss me. They love their Maddens here, man.

Text simmers are like heroine addicts. Only a few go that far.

If the subject of football games was on the table, I've got no idea how many people I've introduced to FOF since I started playing it. No idea how many people who read the fairly long Cardinals dynasty that I posted were from here vs how many were from other sports game forums (mostly tabletop). Might be 0, might be 100, who knows.
As far how many times I've specifically sought someone out and tried to convert them to a p.c. game -- that'd be zero. As others have said, it's pretty much a yes/no genre for most people, and I really haven't met too many remotely likely candidates outside of forums like this one.

someone should write up a sales-pitch type email that we can all use on those we think might be interested.

I've tried with a couple of people, but they didn't really care. It's all about graphics...

I think this is a good strategy. Text-sim FOF is a lot like a fantasy football keeper league...especially since you can play multi-player. I'm gonna try that next time.
my league was going to be using TPF, but changed to FOF before it began, so I'd say about 20 that bought it specifially because I told them to, other members had it before.

I tried to show my older brother how to play once and he was all like, "Ummmm...OK."

I tried a couple of times and then I stopped bothering to even mention it at all. It's a strange combination you need to want to play text sims, I guess. An interest in the subject helps, but you also need to have a love of stats. A healthy imagination probably works to your advantage too.

It's a little odd... I used to run a six-person multiuplayer league using Front Page Sports Football Pro... and thought that the other guys in that league would be obvious candidates for FOF. Especially after the time we all spent analyzing the drafts and working out trades -- we never watched or played the games, it was exclusively front-office stuff for us anyway.
I pitched the game to four guys, one bought it, didn't stick. I was floored. I think I am directly responbsible for maybe three or four other sales, but have not been impressed with my strike rate either. I don't think I have actually talked anyone into becoming a long term customer.
