Dear every media outlet in the world,

(Including every TV station, radio station, late night talk show, etc.)

Please stop sending "wacky" correspondents to the Super Bowl.

Just stop.

I know you think it will be funny. The guy will wear a funny costume on media day. He'll ask inappropriate and vaguely PG-13 questions and record the players and coaches confused reactions. He'll get some third-string player, desparate for attention, to participate in some sort of skit.

Please don't.

It was funny 20 years ago when Letterman first did it. It's not any more. Nobody laughed this year. Not one single person. All you're doing is demonstrating your own lack of originality and annoying those of us who are interested in the actual game.

Stop. Just stop.

Signed,
Every person in the world.

Do I qualify as a media outlet? :)

Yes.

Now please stop already.

while we're at it, can we stop with the Daily Show's reporter skits and special interest stories? It's just a tired, tired bit.

How about we stop the Daily Show period? It was so much funnier when he at least wasnt attempting to bash Bush at every interval.

Actually, I'm thinking the roots of this might be 1975 -- Cubby Sweitzer and Scoops Brannigan of The Daily Steamer

the wacky reporter bit was funny back during the early days, but now I think it's overdone. they find these people who have a wacky stance on an issue (like the woman who wanted social security to be cancelled). the problem is, if they'd just play it "straight" and let these kooks tell their story, it would be a lot more funny than all the really bad reaction shots or intentionally uncomfortable questions the reporter asks.

the next time you watch, try to imagine the segment without the overracting of the reporter, and I'll bet you think it would be funnier without that. Sometimes they do pull it off, but more often than not, I think it sucks.

I, too, like the wacky reporters. I also adore the daily show. I guess I shouldn't really be posting in this thread.

I thought it was even more funny when Craig Kilborn was hosting and the show wasn't about politics at all. Even the early days of Jon Stewart when it wasn't politics every single show.

Not to mention the questionable humor in picking some well-meaning person who's probably never been on TV before and humiliating them.

Some of the "victims" may deserve it, but a lot of them are just ordinary people who have a cause that's important to them.

Blagojevich has no excuse there - he should've known about the Daily Show. At the very least his staff should've done some background on the people who were coming to interview him. That he was clueless is itself befuddling.

Except the governor of Illinois is not a well-meaning person who's never been on TV before. Talk about bad staff work. Somebody should get fired for a) booking him on the show; and b) not briefing him on what it was. If he booked the interview himself or was briefed and ignored it, then I think he's one of the "victims" who may deserve it.

1.) I agree that the wacky reporter bit at Media Day is overdone. Hell, the fact that we now call it the "Wacky Reporter Bit" provides some indication of just how unoriginal the idea is.

2.) I like the Daily Show. It can certainly be hit or miss, but the hits still outnumber the misses, AFAIK.

I'm completely over the Daily Show. I agree with the comments above about how the show has turned entirely into a Bush bash session. And while you might think my feelings have something (or everything) to do with being a conservative, I rarely miss the Colbert Report. Colbert's spoof of a conservative talk show is more entertaining than simply making straight Bush jokes. The Daily Show has turned into more of a humorous lecture than an entertaining comedy show.

Yeah, how dare anyone try to mock the sanctity that is Super Bowl media week. I mean, There's a minimal amount of real coverage, so anyone wasting even one precious second on anything else is out of line.

Seriously, though. I'm sick and tired of the Super Bowl already. PTI, Around the Horn, Sportscenter do the same bit every day leading up to the Super Bowl. Which Rex Grossman will show up!?! Will Peyton Manning get the monkey off his back!?! Was the performance of the Colts defense in the first two playoff games an anomaly!?!

Please! I'm dying to know, again and again and again.

That's funny...I caught a shockingly great Tom Waits performance on The Daily Show about a month back or so (yeah, Tom Waits...performing live...on TV...equals bliss). Last I checked it was still online via their website, and I'd encourage everyone to go check it out.

The two week layoff has really killed the football buzz I had after the conference championships. They can keep media day if they get rid of the two weeks in betweent the game.

Nobody would complain if someone wanted to be funny during Super Bowl week. Just, you know, actually be funny. Or if you're going to fail to be funny, at least do it in a semi-interesting way.

Just don't be not funny in the exact same way that everyone else is being not funny. That's what FOFC parody threads are for.
